Character Creation/Customization - Who else HAS to have it?

I find it extremely difficult to enjoy a game unless I can make my own character, with at least average character customization. For some reason, I don't get any sense of fulfillment playing as a premade character. Am I the only one on this?

I used to get super absorbed into char creations, but now I just don't care.

I name them retard names and make them look as dumb as possible instead of spending perhaps an hour or more making them perfect

Hmm, actually sounds like a pretty good mindset to have. I'll consider doing something like this, just so I'm not so limited on the games I can play.

No you're not alone. Character Creator is one of the feature i look for the most in a game especially if it's a rpg.

Glad I'm not the only one. I can't help but cringe when I find a game that seems sooo perfect for me, but has no character creation.

I defiantly prefer to have some character creation in my rpg's, especially if it's an open world; and the more in-depth, the better. The Elder Scrolls series comes to mind, as well as a few Korean mmo's out there have ridiculous amounts of customization options. Eve Online has some of the most advanced character customization options out there, but unfortunately you never really get to see your character that often other than their portrait.

I have never really needed it. It's a nice little gimmick, but not necessary for me.

I do not need it to enjoy the game. Although, I would not mind if they make the character for me and I could change their clothes. I love when the armor looks different depending on what you buy.

I don't need it, but it definitely adds to the experience. I'm known to spend hours on the character creation screen.

Unless the "create a character" is really in-depth with many options to choose from, then I just go with the default characters, it's good enough for me.

Only if it's an online game. For single player games I just use one of the premade characters.

I'd rather have a nicely designed character. Character creators are crummy. All of them.

I find that most games have really bad character creators, and I usually just go with the default character because I know I'll screw something up and make it ugly otherwise. I'd rather just have a cool, preset character to play as.

That is, unless the character creator is all about customizing your character's stats and stuff and not their appearance, like Baldur's Gate. That stuff's pretty good.

I dislike character customization. I used to be fond of it, but I don't care about making my own character "unique" since it's meaningless.

I can't play an RPG that doesn't have it.

Spending three hours building a character before starting the game? So fun.

It's a huge bonus, and definitely integral to get a proper RPG experience, or at least as close as any computer game can get.

But I don't have any problem playing your average adventure game RPG wannabee even if it has premade characters.

Even if there is a robust character generator though, what I really miss is options to create your character's background and goals. Sadly, no RPG-likes really have much of this, the closest ones I've played were Mount & Blade (Which completely ignored it after you selected it) and Mass Effect, which at least tried.

Stopped caring as much after Soul Calibur IV. So far, most games with character customization have left me irritated because they never give me enough to get it just right. I've noticed a lot of times they'll give you tons of face options, but hardly any body options. I think the part that pisses me off the most though is the lack in variety of hairstyles in many games. You'd think that would be an easy thing to address. At least let my hairstyle be different from the next 100-200 people.

Eh, if it's there I'll mess with it, but if the interface is too complicated or the options lackluster, I'll just randomize it and start.

I really need a character creation and if i get a good one, i spend hours with it and with my own character the game makes tripple fun.

Dragons Dogma comes into mind cos i love it even more to have the options to make big/small and young/old characters.
