I'm finding this problem where I can't throw out little things from the past that was once important to me. It's seriously filling up space in my closet and drawers and basically my entire room. I have notebooks and journals from the past (of how I would brutally kill my friends), scripts of paper of old web messages (plots and discussions about how to kill said friends) and and shoeboxes filled with their bodies memories.

How do you deal with this problem?

I deal with this problem from time to time. I think the key is to realize it isn't the object itself that is creating value and causing you to feel sentimental. Rather, it is you who are doing this, by adding value to the object through attaching your memory to it. The object itself isn't the source of your feelings, you are.

Otherwise, you could always follow through with your murderous intentions. Might lift some of the burden of living such a homicidal free existence. It worked for me.

The fact that you can't throw them out means that it's still important to you.

I try to tell myself that the best memories will stay with me anyway, and I force myself to throw most things that aren't ever going to be practically useful away.

Notebooks and journals sound like things that could actually be good to keep, in some sort of archive-type place. Scraps of paper less...

That's way too true. I wonder why little drawings from my old avatar-game days are still important to me? Ugh I need to let it go.

Fortunately I have a very minimal attachment to material things. Thus, I cannot really relate. Though, it may help to remember our place in the universal order, in terms of facilitating a capacity for letting go. We're dust in the wind, Wallflowers. All we are is dust in the wind.

I use my old xbox 360 box to hoard all my scrap papers from the past four years. Not much to hoard, but fun to look at every once in a while.

I have this blanket I always have with me from my childhood and I even sleep with it. I could never throw it away even though my dad threatens to burn it.

I am the same way with small things. I just keep them in drawers so I look nice and tidy but in reality I am not. I enjoy having small trinkets on my desk too, but sometimes they are purely sentimental items and hold no real value, so people give me strange looks. Like "Why do you have a crunched soda bottle on your desk?"

My toys, specifically the Zoids toys.

I always had fun every time I open a box of Zoids. The best part is assembling these toys.
I still keep all 15 of them.

My mom always tells me to give the toys to my cousin but I always refuse. The toys are still there in the display together with my Pokemon figures. These toys are with me for 10 (or more) years.

I have a 'box of memories' which is full of small things with sentimental value. Will probably upgrade it to a trunk one day since I can barely put the lid on properly these days.

How about you? How were you able to reach the point of not having objects of sentimental value?

It's kind of a long story, but I can tell you, if you are interested. After realizing that everything changes ("show must go on"/ "one thing about life: it goes on") and as humans we, therefore, have to adept in order to survive. Also I believe that the reason why we think that something has value is because our emotions. Anyway, I thought that being too attached too objects has more disadvantages than advantages so I started to detach myself from them, and I succeeded.
