Why Do I No Longer Feel Emotions After Completing An Anime

Okay guys, the thing is, I use to get SOO nostalgic over anime after finishing it or when I randomly thought about it.

Yu Yu Hakusho, Code Geass, Cowboy Bebop, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach and 5 Centimeters Per Second are examples.

I remember the good old days when I missed One Piece and every time I thought of it, I'd get nostalgic attacks or emotions, same goes for Code Geass, Yu Yu Hakusho, and the one that hit me the worst was 5 Centimeters Per Second.

The last anime I truly felt emotions for was School Days, which I watched 4 months ago.

After that I no longer felt the emotions, I just completed Kaichou Wa Maid-Sama almost two hours ago, which equals yesterday night, it is my favourite romance series so far, yet I felt nothing after completing it...

Anyone experience this?

EDIT: I just remembered, after I finished the Ao No Exorcist movie, after the anime, I felt the emptiness emotions for like 2 minutes, then it stopped. Whenever I listen to the first ending I get nostalgic again, but that's stopped too... This was, like, 2 weeks ago

Is Kaichou Wa Maid-Sama the only Anime you haven't felt emotion for, or is there more? Because some people feel less emotion for a certain show than others.

I'm sure your emotions are fine. Just try some more shows. I'm sure there's plenty of people here that could recommend you other emotional stuff.

Nope One Piece isn't finished, but back when I had no internet and my laptop was broken, which meant that I couldn't watch One Piece, I use to randomly think of One Piece and the memories I had with it, which was nostalgic. I don't feel it at all now...

Thanks for being supportive :)

I haven't felt emotion for, like, most of the anime I've watched. I say I've watched almost 40 anime series so far, I've only felt emotion for, let's say ten of them.

I know the emotions you feel is terrible after completing an anime, but still, I want to know how it feels again...

but you're probably used to endings and nothing in anime surprises you anymore. for me, after watching clannad, i was pretty much immune to anything sad. (anohana after did jack)

Desensitized I guess. You're probably used to climatic endings by now, so anything short of a main character getting offed in an outrageous way won't do anything.

5 Centimeters Per Second done that to me, but that was 2 years ago, I was sad-sick over it for a week.

Then, two years later I decide to continue anime for real and this time I no longer feel sad that the anime I watch end.

Nope, I'm a normal guy and I love anime. I enjoy watching anime, but I don't feel anything for the ending.

Narutarded? What
yes

Retardation is the act or result of delaying; the extent to which anything is retarded or delayed; that which retards or delays.

What I meant, was that your emotions are delayed, so you won't feel it until you it hits you, nawmean?

Thanks man, that's another viewpoint, I've felt that way.
Thing is, I wasn't delayed-in-emotions up till April+, that's when I became retarded, which is a way to put it, so I don't understand how I suddenly became emotionless.

Maybe your not getting into them but instead just sorta 'watching 1 after the other'. Take your time with these things, get really into it, the soundtrack to, enjoy everything.

It means they didn't grab you. Which means either you have out of the ordinary tastes, or they sucked.

Given the state of the industry and Sturgeon's Law, I suspect the latter.
Anyone who doesn't hate anime hasn't watched enough anime.

A very sound answer.

This is what I found was most relatable. I just found myself watching anime episode marathoning it one by one. I guess its because I got fed up of watching some series towards the end so I multitasked while I watched them. Now I try to focus on watching the episode so I enjoy it to the fullest- like Seitokai Yakuindomo- I enjoyed the lewd inside jokes and the characters and everything.

Nah, it's actually the opposite: To appreciate the good stuff, you have to watch the worst shit possible! After you wallowed in filth like Mars of Destruction & Co., even an average anime will make you cry tears of joy...

Woah, is that what happens to you?
I think this is one of the main reasons now that I think about it, I'll keep that in mind next time I'm watching anime

I really didn't want Kaichou Wa Maid-Sama to end, but it did but I felt nothing, but that might've been for a different reason.

I just don't know how to change my mindset of wanting to complete an anime to wanting to enjoy it, you know? I'll see what I can do

It can just be that you are overcrowded with other issues and while you enjoy the anime you watch you can't retain it in your memory for too long, not to mention feeling nostalgic and such... Anyway not every anime has the same ability to provoke these feelings long after the experience is done, so I guess you just have to keep looking for the right ones.

Why did you give it a 10 then (and how is it your favorite romance, or favorite anything else for that matter), if you didn't feel anything after finishing it? Btw, if you liked the Maid-sama anime, you'll love the manga. If you don't get any emotions after finishing it; find another hobby.

Because it's actually the first romance to make me wanna watch more, that's why it's a 10. And no, I won't find another hobby. Anime is life :P

That's another point I can relate to. I have other stuff I can't help thinking about when watching anime, but I try my hardest not to think about it.

I need to look for an anime like Yu Yu Hakusho, or an anime that has 50+ episodes, I'll get emotionally attached better.

For now I'm better off playing games while I think about it, thanks
