It's common for various episodes to be done by different people. No point in obsessing over that. What really matters is who works on whole thing.

And obviously those 3 weeks of episodes showed in the Preorders. I'm not obsessing over it, I'm just pulling ideas out. There's a reason why I had a (?) question mark.

Well, obviously Japan likes other shows, and there's a lot of good shows this summer. Going by the charts above 3k zone, I can agree with almost all the shows—except the ones I'm not watching—of why people in Japan would like it. There's more "hype" per say around SAO, Sailor moon, and Free sales. While shows like Aldnoah get good sales (maybe because of Urobutcher?), and Black Butler gets okay sales because of it returning to the original manga storyline. My opinion may not mean anything, but if anything, from what I've seen, the stuff this summer that I thought would do okay in sales are.

Plus Hanayamata hasn't shown anything great in all of its episode to surprise viewers or give them something to which they should support the sales.

Hanayamata sucks.

You don't have to explain yourself this much. The majority clearly agrees with you, since it has mediocre sales.

And it isnt the subject material since Lobu libu is still going strong.

Love Live was cute, had dancing and drama and was awesome.

Hanababatutuwaba has moe and tropes.

Love Live had moe and tropes off the scale, stop comparing Hanayamata to Love Live.

Its sales probably come from the fact that its an emotionless teenager using edge to beat overwhelming enemies.

That shit is popular.

I'm pretty sure it being Aniplex show has MUCH more to do with Aldnoah hype. West overestimates Urobuchi's influence. Both fans and skeptics. Just don't talk about him when mentioning Aldnoah because he isn't that relevant here.

And no, those three weeks of episodes don't show anything because the show was solicited after they aired. If anything, it isn't doing as well as other Aniplex shows.

Pre-order rankings =/ Sales

That aside, you seem be confused as to what sales mean. Low sales do not mean the series was disliked.

I'm enjoying Hanayamata. It's the only show I'm following this season (last season I followed Love Live 2 and Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san). The art and characters are nice (I'm surprised the moe otaku are turned off by the art, its art style fits very well into the moe mold), and I don't really mind the drama. No genre fatigue here, and I've stuffed myself with moe SoLs recently. So far I like Hanayamata more than, for example, Kiniro Mosaic and Yuru Yuri.

I agree. Popularity and sales doesn't correlate with quality, or even general fan opinion.

Anyone know what is wrong with Hanayamata that it's getting bad preorder numbers?
Because it's not that good? Simple as that. The story is meh at best. Compared to other shows that revolve around girls doing things, Hanayamata just doesn't have the feel to it.

Hanayamata is too Chinese. Honestly, if I didnt see dat show on MAL, I would think its a Chinese cartoon

Why are some people comparing Love Live! and Hanayamata? They are nothing alike! Love Live is a multimedia franchise 2.5D idol show. Hanayamata is an adaption from the Manga Kirara Time family (i.e. Moe to the max). There is nothing similar about them and their potential target audience apart from both being anime.

BTW, I enjoyed Love Live and I'm really enjoying Hanayamata.

And as for Hanayamata being chinese???? Yosakoi is about as Japanese as you can get!! I'm lucky enough to live near a Japanese collage that has a awesome drum team as well as a Yosakoi group and it really is amazing to watch live!

What I can't believe is how modern it is, Yosakoi started in 1954. Which gives me another reason why Hanayamata isn't getting the proper number of preorders, yosakoi, despite being a modern dance is based off traditional dances (wearing happi and yukata at least in Japan, in other countries who have Yosakoi teams sometimes dress differently) and to the buying fanbase in Japan, it may come off as way too Japanese.

Well, the big blockbuster shows in sales such as EVA, Bakemonogatari and Madoka are better than average. I think there is a correlation between entertainment factor and sales, stuff like Attack on Titan was a hit for very obvious reasons.

+1, while when this show is bad it is truly horrifically bad, when it is good it is very enjoyable. Haven't seen the movie, but I have hope.

And GuP is god. Seriously. That this show has outstanding numbers is all the evidence one needs to refute the idiot who says Japanese tastes suck*

The scary thing about GuP is that because it is in the "girls with guns" genre it probably underperforms from what it could do because so many people are turned off by the premise and won't even watch the show. It is gratifying to see that, despite this handicap, it still hits the ball out of the park.

(* extra evidence is that Japanese animation is a worldwide phenomenon, because while perhaps while they don't sell as much, quality animation continues to get made. And even then, most of the reasons why certain shows "don't sell" has nothing to do with the success of the show).

I agree entirely. I don't really see how one rips off the other, when they're really not that alike. Not seeing how they're comparable too much other than they share a couple of the same features.

I loved Love Live!!, but Hanayamata is kind of boring to me. Just personal tastes, but yeah. Either way, fights are fun to watch either way lol.

Yes. Jotaro Kujo and Nico should have children. They'd be the greatest couple in anime history.

They have the same basic structure and formula: cute girls form club, get more cute girls to join club, do cute club activities and get character growth from said activities. The target audience of Love Live are the guys who brought K-On/Girls und Panzer rather than the guys who brought Idolm@ster, and that is the same target audience for Hanayamata.

No. The Love Live! anime is there to promote and build a 2.5D idol group, as evidenced by the HUGE drop in sales from volume 1 to 2 (1 included an event ticket). You need to look at all the other sales that go with the show (albums etc) to see what it is all about. Sure the anime also has CGDCT elements but that is a byproduct to build strength in the different character brands. Overall Love Live! is an insanely well produced multimedia steamroller.

Hanayamata on the other hand is just a CGDCT show, nothing more.

Genre fatigue is setting in then.

It's more than that actually, I have watched 2 episodes of Hanayamata and I enjoyed it but didn't love it as much as I did for Love Live. It's a slower pace, more artsy show with mediocre art quality, the type of series otakus might like but wouldn't go gaga over. Compare this to Barakamon which has terrific art plus more energy and humor, and it's not hard to see why there seems to be more interest for Barakamon.

That Hanayamata show just seems to lack the variety of Love Live's cast and while it's similar in concept it's fairly different in tone. I'd describe Love Live as more spunky, amusing and energetic while Hanayamata is more traditionally cutesy. Hanayamata just seems to lack what I can really only describe as the "attack" of Love Live that pushes it over the edge between just cute girls doing cute things and a show that feels like it's about something a little more. Like normally I'm not able to sit through a show like that and even kind of enjoy it. It kind of helps that the music in general is pretty damn catchy be it the BGM or some of the vocal tracks and again I'm not typically a huge fan of Idol Music, but they do it in an old school J-Pop kind of way that's sort of nostalgic.

Anyway I did see a couple episode of Hanayamata and it's better than I thought, but still kind of just too traditionally moe for me to get all that into though I like the whole Yosakoi dance thing (moreso as a fighting style in Persona 4 though). I don't see how it sucks though like some people said. Like I'm sure it's fine for the audience that is into those sort of innocent genre shows.

I'm pretty sure it being Aniplex show has MUCH more to do with Aldnoah hype. West overestimates Urobuchi's influence. Both fans and skeptics. Just don't talk about him when mentioning Aldnoah because he isn't that relevant here.

I wonder how many people are still unaware of the obvious connection between Aniplex productions and hype. Like definitely nobody hypes their own products like they do (the West seems more susceptible to this sort of thing for sure), which they did again with Aldnoah.Zero, just not really in the right way IMO. The problem here again is they often seem to give up on maintaining that hype and narrative momentum after a certain number of episodes relying on things like license popularity and big name staffers to carry the product. I don't know if it's directly the result of it but it's interesting to see how much the momentum for Aldnoah.Zero dropped off after Urobuchi stopped writing the scripts. It can always still regain it with some strong episodes, but to see it go from a potential 25K or so seller to a Stalker predicted (albeit almost certainly underestimated) 5K seller in a little over two weeks is kind of surprising.

One other thing that's kind of interesting about Aldnoah.Zero's release that I noticed was that in an unusual move they put 3 episode on the first disc then only 2 on the second one. Usually the first disc will be one of those discounted 1 episode discs with a smart extra to act as a lead for a disc set, but they seem to be playing things very differently here and my only theory is that they want to package the Urobuchi scripted episodes together cause they're betting long on that being a big draw for it. I mean I can't remember the last time I saw a show that seemed to be betting so strongly on fan loyalty towards it's staffers as a draw. They plastered the staff names all over the product description for the discs with only a really small 3 line conceptual summary of the show itself, which is also pretty different since usually you'll get a multi paragraph summary of what the show is about for prospective buyers instead of the multi-paragraph summary telling you all the big hyped shows each key staffer worked on before. If the goal isn't strictly for the show to sell based on the popularity of the staff involved first and foremost Aniplex really isn't doing a good job of showing it basically.

Glad to hear that though I'll lower my expectations for now and think that it will do like the TV series did. Though it is a pretty long wait for the release on Nov. 12, 2014.

It's sad to see that the movie ED kirakira-go-round didn't rank in last weeks cd sales. Though it's understandable that it's a song from a movie that was released in theaters 5 months ago.

It is in line with how Vol.1 sold. Later volumes of anime rarely ever sell more than Vol.1, unless there are genuine stock issues (most recent example is Girls und Panzer), or there are bonuses which boosts sales. In Nogenora's case, both Vol.1 and Vol.2 has event tickets, so it would've been a slim chance that Vol.2 would sell more than Vol.1.
