Majority of the seasonal series air at night. That is not justification.
Tokyo Ghoul(Thursday) and Akame ga Kill(Sunday) both air at 24:00 in japan. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun(Sunday) air at 25:05(So basically at Monday 1:05 am).

The thing is that Akame ga Kill was never that famous in Japan. Probably with the anime the series is getting a boost, but nothing to appear in the weekly rankings.

Nah, it's pretty obscure to be honest. The average manga sales it makes is like 30-40 thousand volume copies. The series doesn't even make half a million sales in the entire year. Hopefully it gets some sales as the anime goes by.

To show you how bad it's selling, Assassin classroom volume 10 alone sold more than all 11 volumes of akame ga kill combine.

The series deserve more recognition, if a silly series like assassin classroom can make so much sales, akame ga kill should be able to sell like that as well.

Inu x Boku SS is an interesting beastie. The whole anime is basically the prolog of the main story and it's not until later that the real story starts up. Unfortunately it looks like we won't get the rest animated which is both unfortunate and rather surprising as it sold rather well in anime form.

Akame is just your average gritty Shounen, I never saw the hype about it in the first place and I think Japan has other gritty Shounen that interest them more atm - like Shingeki or Tokyo Ghoul or all the other stuff that is basically the same.

not surprised to see Gekkan shoujo nozaki-kun on the list. i checked the pre=volume sales for the summer season and Gekkan is the most succesfull non sequel anime series so far.

A bit disappointed that Akama ga kill is not ranking well. it seems it is one of those titles that is more successful for western audiences than at home.

I am also a bit surprised that Tokyo ghoul is not ranking much more, i have not read the manga but from what i heard they are doing a bad adaptation maybe that's why.

It got a big boost previous weeks, so it's reasonable that it falls of later on.

On the second note I'm happy for Noragami and Yahari Ore and it looks like I'll need to get to Vagabond soon :).

However, I can't understand Inu X boku and Gekkan shoujo.

I dropped Inu X boku after like 3 episodes and now i can't even remeber what was it about. (dropped it a month ago)
Well, Japanese have shit taste, basically opposite of what western audience prefer. It looks like to me that for Japanese you just need moe or OP God character and will top the charts every week. Story, logic or other things are irrelevant.

As for Gekkan shoujo, I like the anime, it's funny and positive with interesting characters but to be that successful seems like a bit overkill. Well, I'm rather surprised than annoyed.

I actually sort of agree with this. It's good, but nothing groundbreaking. Imo SnK and Tokyo Ghoul were better.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun's sales are awesome. Glad to see my current fave of the season is also appreciated in Japan. If things continue to be good, we might eventually get a second season. Also, I hope Yen Press or any other publisher picks it up for an English release.

Pretty disappointed that the latest Pokemon Special volume didn't rank though :( Maybe next week? There was a pretty good twist for the arc's conclusion.

Also glad for Noragami, Tonari no Seki-kun, Oregairu, Mikagura, and Shuuen no Shiori! First week sales for the last two are a bit lower than their previous volumes (I suspect the critical failure of Mekakucity Actors had something to do with this), but still glad they're pretty high up in the ranks! I hope sales pick up ^_^

And maybe Tumblr. Or it could just be me, I'm pretty disappointed with the adaptation since I'm a longtime fan of the series.

Well, I also theorize that the reason why Mikagura and Shuuen's sales this time around were lower (other than perceived quality going down, I can't read Japanese, so...) is because no new songs have been uploaded to their series for a while. The third volume of Mikagura was released a month after the fourth song, which definitely increased awareness and popularity of it. Shuuen has no excuse though; it's nearly a year since its latest song.

I suspect the critical failure of Mekakucity Actors had something to do with this
Mekakucity Actors has currently sold over 11k and currently is the 3rd best-selling show of spring 2014. It's far from critical failure in terms of sales.

Hence why I said citical. I didn't mean commercial, I could also see how well it's doing. A fair number of fans SEEM to be disappointed with the adaptation (and by fans I mean longtime fans of KagePro) so I made the assumption. Feel free to correct me if you wish.

Why did people hate Inu x Boku SS? It is one of the best show in 2012. Haven't read the manga but I heard anime is just prologue to the story.
Kickstarter for Rokujouma is fully funded. Good work everyone. Lets wait for the result of our hard work together.

Hmm... That's odd. Probably the series is aired at late nights. That may explain why we are not seeing any boost in sales for akame ga kill, or maybe people are just not interested in it.

Bad performance by Akame Ga Kill. The manga is really great, it's a shame it's not selling more.

What's with these comments? The last volume came out on 21st June. Why would you expect it to be ranking now?

I wouldn't say bad performance, but totally different that the western fans were expecting. I got really surprised and still don't understand all the hype the title as here in the west. The manga is not bad, is in reality good, but not something that special.

Note that because of the anime, the series should have received a noticeable boost and previous volumes should have appeared in the rankings. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is a manga from the same publisher, Gangan(Square Enix), and you can see previous titles appearing in the rankings due to the anime boost.
Nozaki-kun right now is doing way better than Akame ga Kill!

Mekakucity Actors was hyped everyone was expecting great animation but instead we got "that", the studio/company thought they could pull a fast one and half ass the anime and get a load of money (50K+) but not we're not paying for a an average adaptation and as a result everything else is suffering a bit.

This, basically. The fans' expectations and Jin's pacing just didn't translate well in the twelve-episode anime. Mikagura and Shuuen are like KagePro in that all three are popular Vocaloid song series that had LN adaptations, so most fans are also fans of the other series. The fans who were disappointed with MCA either probably saw the faults in adapting Vocaloid songs to LN or lost faith in the other series as well so the sales of MSS and SnS might have declined because of this.

Just a conspiracy theory, though.
