Your story was bad. It was terrible, in fact. It was like that lame twilight bullshit. I have no patience for that crap. It’s not writing, it’s like bound toilet paper.

I've read the books and they don't seem to me that bad..what I don't like is that the sexual content is way too much and it takes up pages that could be used for further plot/character development. Also, Ana (the female protagonist) is really getting on my nerves.

I will watch the movie out of curiosity, in order to see if it is well adapted or not.
But I would prefer it if Ian Somerhalder was Christian Grey, he is so beautiful.
The lead actress doesn't resemble Ana either.

A lot of the criticism for this book has a misogynistic tone. It's only considered a shitty book because it's written for women by a woman -- and I doubt it's been read in whole by most of the sheeples commenting against it.

I'll watch it mainly because of Jamie, but (my) rule n.1 is : never judge a movie by its trailer. (I have to say it seems quite boring and predictable as plot, but following the rule, lets see).

Ugh terrible, just nobody go see it.

Ive never read the book but isn't the male character meant to be an older man? because honestly seems to me to be pretty much a clone of that 'the Secretary' movie.

But yeah if you are going to have a plot of a young women been seduced into sin by a rich swarve guy make him older than a guy in his 20's seriously. Do I have to spell it out? have fucking Michael Fassbender

You have to take into consideration the audience to which it is aimed. This and I don't think Fassbender would accept such a role. He already did great with Shame, so why ruin his image?! And nope, the guy in the book is like 6 years older than the girl, so the flaw is in the original source, not in the movie.

I only ask that, because one, I haven't read it (or Twilight for that matter), and two, whenever people complain about the book, it's never about the actual writing, plot, characters, etc; it's always about the content (porn for girls) and who reads it (middle aged housewives). well you spotted the main problem , all the fuss that was made from this book developped discussion , tv interview and so on , making the book a center of attention , like if it was a society phenomenon...but it's just a bad book , nothing more .
the problem is that this book is neither feminist , nor misogyn...this book is absolutly zero subversive even if it is sold like if it was .

To think this book could be considered a tools for women emencipation and such make me really sad . This is all marketting , well done despisable marketting crafting

The way it is written is just bad ( maybe the translation make it even more horrible , I don't know ) , and the so called perverted loving...let just say that it's postal card SM , unharmful and cliché . There is no imagination in it...nothing .

the movie just look the same way , it try hard to be something it isn't...just like all heavy production , the only goal is to sell .

nothing to see , just void wispering in a commercial world

I read the book in the middle of the library on a slow day, was mildly disturbed and almost lost my stomach when I heard they were adapting it into a movie.

I'm just resigned to the fact that THIS pile of crap is getting a movie when there are things so much more deserving....

Don't worry, most hollywood adaptations mak fans of the book rage anyways. It might be better your favoritevbooks aren't getting adaptted/

It's poorly written fanfiction. The only difference here is the author was smart enough to realize if she replaced the name "Bella" with "Anastasia" and the name "Edward" with "Christian", then she technically would have her own original story.

Much like its source material, Twilight, a lot of the hatred comes from the amateur writing (the lead female describes her vagina as "down there" like she's a child), it's direct relation to the hateable book franchise, and how it mistakes abuse for romance. It doesn't do men or women any favors and only serves to be highly popular trash. This itself wouldn't be a problem, but the media treats it like its legitimate literature and gives it credibility when its nothing more than (even more than Twilight) a middle-aged woman's sex fantasy made public.

While I agree that misognystic criticisms are the book are both horrible and unnecessary I think that the fact that 50 SOG was written by a woman doesn't make it exempt from criticism - after all it is largely a portrayal of a completely unsafe and unhealthy sexual relationship and the fact that it's portrayed as something healthy and desirable in the book is completely awful and really worth criticizing
having actually read the book myself and seen reviews of it i can say that nah the fact that it's considered shitty isnt about the author or intended audience - it's about the unsafe sexual practices and abuse it condones in addition to just plain shitty writing etc.

Ever think that maybe, just maybe the criticisms of the book have nothing to do with the gender of the author or the target audience and are instead directed at the fact that it's just pretentiously long-winded erotic fanfiction? No women are impressed with your faux feminism, pal.

I read it through the ending of the third book skipping the porn-like parts(which is almost like 50% more or less each book)
The story is actually nice. Just the usual mediocre love story about a boy who fell love at first sight with the girl.
The characters are good too. Each book shows the development of their personality which was really too, too, toooooo rotten in the first book.

Its really nice except for the **** parts and that made the movie R24+ or something.

Why does it get approbation from a lot of women, then? Simply because it borders on what women really want in terms of fantasy fulfillment. It may err on the extreme side, but it's a step closer to having movies which cater to their real needs, which is domination.

Neither am I impressed at you bringing up genders here, young lady. So what if it's pretentiously long-winded? It's an erotic fiction; let women watch what they want. The movie perfectly accomplishes its goal of fulfilling their fantasies; its goal wasn't to compete with the Harvard Classics.

When did I say that women shouldn't be allowed to watch what they want? Just because some women like something doesn't mean that the thing they like is immune to criticism. Especially not when it's something like FSoG which is clearly trying to be something "more" than a madlibbed Twilight erotic fanfic and failing miserably at it.

What's your opinion about this movie for this upcoming Valentine 2015?

To be honest, I never knew there's a book about this movie. For me, even though I don't mind BDSM thingy, the story line is boring for me and there's nothing to intrigued me enough for me to watch it. Why would people overly excited about this movie? And if you didn't watch the trailer yet, here's the video:

I've heard the writing and characters are really poor, BDSM isn't portrayed remotely realistic and it uses the "not if they enjoyed it" rationalisation so rape gets portrayed as love.

Btw I heard the sex scenes are gonna be way more tame in the movie.

It isn't although I probably wouldn't know, but there are much better ones out there. Even most manga is better as they're not just saying exactly what's happening only trying to make it sound erotic. And I hope the movie is better. (Not that I'll be allowed to see it.)
