Just wanted to get other people's opinion on this.

I'm 19 and making $50,000 a year atm. After paying mortgages and other expenses, (student debt, food, luxuries, etc.) save about $400 a month.

My issue is that I'm always comparing myself to other people making more and thinking that I'm not where I need to be financially.

I know this is a very first world problem but for those who have been in similar situations in the past, is this really just a mind set people like myself and many others have no matter how much one is really making. (side business, along with part time job/working in the summer.)

Will I always just tend to compare myself to those internship students making much more and think I'm not where I need to be and i'll never be satisfied?

I think you are at the point where that isn't enough to be happy with but not bad either.

Really comes down to the shit you want to buy and places and things you plan on living/owning. $50,000 is definitely enough to get by with average living expenses.

That's a lot more then I made when I was 19 years old. But I have the benefit of inheritance. I don't have to work another day and I'll be fine, but then I'm not living, in fact I'll be busy dying as I would have a contribution to society.

Unless you make more than your co-workers, friends it'll never be enough. I usually work as a construction worker illegaly and make 3 times the minimm wage in my country. I was pretty happy knowing I make so much despite having no real education and very little work experience. Once I heard someone I knew makes twice as much as I do for making shitty mobile apps I was furious and felt like I was underpayed despite making 3 times more money than a min-wage worker.

If you don't waste your money on crap you don't actually need, then $50k a year is more than enough to get by.

And yes, I think no matter how much you make you'll always find yourself in a position where you'd want more. People don't like saving their money and would rather spend it, so making more money, just means you'd buy more crap.

^This is such a cliche statement however....tis true :)

And since we're on cliche statements. Money can't buy happiness. TRUTH! I had to find that out the hard way after wasting 3 years of my life.

If I make $100,000 a year, I would say that would be enough income wise (this would be before tax deductible income). $20,000 a year income is WAY too low. $50,000 is barely enough to live comfortably.

My income is more than enough, I can always save a pretty good chunk of it per month. I live pretty comfortably and rarely spend money on luxuries unless it's something I really want, most of my money that's not spent in paying bills food etc is straight up save. Honestly besides gas I spend around 100-200 € per month on restaurants.

For a single person living in Toronto (which describes the OP, I believe), that's more than enough to live comfortably—by any reasonable definition of 'comfortable'.

Far more than enough. What the hell else are you spending your money on? I would be more than happy, let alone set with 50k a year.

On topic: In a year, I'd barely make $30,000. After taxes, and including everyday commodities, probably anywhere from $22,000 - $25,000.

I've always grown up in poverty, and would consider myself lower-middle class now. (Though even now that might seem like a stretch.) Can't get anything luxurious, but not too horribly poor either.

$50,000 a year but you're only 19?! Nice going!

I'm 24 and making around 56k a year. It's a lot for someone my age, I guess, but it's not enough to cover my expenses. Mainly because where I live, cost of living is insane. In fact, I've read somewhere that here, you'll need to make somewhere between $100 and $150k in order to sustain a middle class lifestyle... despite the fact that the same article claimed only about 1% of the household actually made that much money. This bubble is gonna burst real soon...

Thanks, person who gave me this on another site a long time ago, lol.

Money buys happiness, have you ever seen a sad/grumpy person on a jet ski? Nah but seriously I don't need much money to be satisfied as long as I have a place to live, good internet and can afford new shoes to run in. I've never been with that whole gotta keep up with the neighbors thing and be sure my yard and car look as good as theirs.

Still studying, I'm working during my vacations and next year I'm starting with a paid internship, so I can't really tell yet (right now I feel my income is enough I guess though?).

For the future I'm expecting the same, I do believe money buys happiness for many people, but I feel different about it. Whenever I spend a lot of money on something enjoyable, I also expect it to give me an 'equal' amount of enjoyment and for some reason this barely happens.

As long as I can feed myself, live a bit comfortably and have a few luxuries I'm fine. I rather not think about the things I could have had if I were richer but the things that I do have because of my efforts.

Well most people always want more money then they have, but no my income is never enough.
I'm currently unable to work, so i live on welfare. Of course i can't complain. At least i have an income. But all of the money goes to rent, bills and food. I rarely have enough to spend on other things.
