| Well recently someone I know shared this on facebook http://www.funnyjunk.com/funny_pictures/3269022/they+taught+me+well When I first saw this I remembered that someone long time ago told me that watching movies especially anime is useless waster of time because they teach you nothing. Because of that I started to think what has anime taught me. Excluding stupid stuff like "the more perverted guy is the bigger chances for him to have a harem" or "seeing something sexy will cause you nosebleed" or something similar I understood that there were many ideas which helped to shape my character and that I learned a lot good things from them. I do not have a doubt that this thread was made before many times, but I think it is still worth discussion. So my question are: 1. Have you leaner anything useful/worth remembering lesson from anime? 2. If answer to question "1" is "yes" what was that lesson and which anime/anime character you learned it from? |

| Among other thing, romance anime, especially the shojo ones have taught me a lot about male-female relationship in subtle, more sophisticated sense compared to silly melodrama that vast majority of TV soap opera aired in my country have been always about. They've taught me about how complicated and fragile conventional heterocentric relationship actually look like than they do on the surface. Some series, such as Nana and Bokura no Ita even go so far as portraying how "cathartic" romantic relationship would have affected their (easily-identifiable) characters after various betrayal, break-up, and emotional breakdown. It's rather unfortunate that these days we can't get more of such high calibre shoujo romance drama (since most stuff we get nowadays are mainly derivation of harem and romcom). Sure, we've got White Album 2 last fall but they aren't really the same. Heck, if it weren't for our interest in shoujo and josei manga, i and my girlfriend wouldn't have been dating in the first place. |

| I certainly agree that some anime have shown the importance of certain values, the dynamics of human relationships, morality, etc.. It also shows me things I've never seen before; new perspectives and ideas on things I would not have pondered otherwise. I can say, even a little, that it has educated me and opened my mind. It's also got me interested in Japanese culture and language. Things about their education, society, geography, and arts among other things. I could have learned these things by other means and really, many have said the same about reading. Anime is just a preferred medium. |
