I dont think SAO failed as a series but it definitely failed to live up to that amazing first episode.

My answer is Samurai Flamenco.

I agree with SAO.

But Guilty Crown obviously will become the main victim especially with that "ending". lol.

I don't know if i'm understanding the purpose of this thread right. You have Both SAO and Guilty Crown under "Very Good" Which meant you enjoyed it, a lot.

I thought this thread meant:

THIS SHOWS SOUNDS COOL ----> NEVERMIND, THIS SHOW SUCKED. 5/10 AT BEST.

Asides from the ending, I think the show was pretty well executed. I agree tho, Guilty crown is ending was what made it go down hill

Mardock Scramble could've been another Ghost in the Shell, byt then we spend 2 hours in a friggin' casino! Not to mention some of it is pretentious on top of having shocking stuff for the sake of it.
Selector Infected WIXOSS started out well enough, but it dropped the ball when it came to the plot.
Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko could have been an incredibly interesting character study, but then it just fell into slice of life gags routine.

There are lot of series that tackle aspects and interesting stuff, but then devolve into your next comedy fluff without getting its point across.

The answer here is either Space Dandy or Samurai Flamenco.

They both had excellent staff and yet flopped.

They flopped ratings wise on mal.

They flopped in sales.

They flopped in popularity.

Guilty Crown and SAO both sold really well, have +8.0 ratings on mal and are generally liked by the majority of people.

Deadman Wonderland and Another was also pretty bad for me.

I saw snippets of the two and got interested. But it was literally just torture porn/gore orgy.

You'd probably enjoy shows like those two, at its best, by just going on youtube and looking up:
"Another, all death scenes"
"Deadman Wonderland, all death scenes".

Drool at the action and move on.

I'm still baffled by how people keep calling SAO, Guilty Crown, and Accel World failures across mal.

I'm not standing up for them. I had GC and SAO rated at 4 before I deleted my list.

But lets be real here.

SAO sold 30k per volume and has an 8.3 or some shit on mal.

If anything it is one of the most successful non prime time anime /ever/.

I consider a failure to be a show that disappears after release.

Samurai Flamenco was being called AOTS before it released and even as far as 5 episodes in, then Guillotine Gorilla showed up and the show dropped like a rock.

Like from +8.0 to 6.5.

It went from a generally loved show to complete and utter shit in one episode.

OP did say "to you..." and to me Guilty Crown had an amazing start but went downhill on the latter episodes.

Yeah failure has many forms. A show that gives a company/studio a bad name or a loss in profit IN MY OPINION is a failure.

No 7.72 is a good rating (I think it should be 8 + but oh well) and it is popular on Toonami.

Oh God definitely agree with you for C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control. It had such great potential but it mega rushed to the end with just 11 eps - worse that there isn't any manga or light novels to continue or lengthen the story..

I do agree that these animes had a bad send-off but i believe that many people still like it for its beginnings and this is a pretty standard remark, i personally believe that animes should be rated for all content not only the ending and vice-versa. This is only my stand on the matter and i would like someone to talk about their side, if they have an issue with my opinion. I would gladly listen. Hope this does not send a wrong message or inconvenience to another user.

I'll avoid saying the obvious titles that everyone mentioned.

I say one of the saddest potential that is lost for me in the past 2 years is definitely

Red Data Girl

I had such high hopes for it.

Majority of LN titles and their anime adaptations. Seriously, i've never seen any other medium that's so prone on introducing meaningful premises and comcepts but always fail to execute said premises and concept properly. Many of LN adaptations we've seen up until today, to be frank, have introduced many interesting concepts on them. Post-apocalyptic sci-fi (Black Bullet), groundbreaking high-fantasy (Mahou Sensou, Blade Dance, Campione, etc), hypothetical alternative future (Rail Wars, SAO, IS), even satire (OreImo, Outbreak Company), and some other concepts that i find quite appealing as comic book fans. Unfortunately, most of said interesting conceits are about all of these titles have going for them. In terms of execution, they tend to be bland, meaningless, and lazy for the most part. In addition to their frequent refusal to enrich the storytelling by expanding said concept throoughly, they tend to be very bloated by alot of things that actually have nothing to do in the context of narrative at all; pseudo-romantic and harem stuff, fanservice, random jokes, and tendency to "stop" the narrative and having the characters start some "backstory". And don't get me started about the characters, which are all generally stock characters fulfilling certain idealized archetypes. In short; well-constructed premise in place of well-written plot and characters.

Such a waste of premise, if you ask me

UGHHH did that ever have potential? I remember it being one of teh shows I wanted to watch the most for Spring 14 season, but it ended up being a confusing jumbled mess that I didn't care for. I somehow watched 8 episodes of it before I dropped it..

I have a really big list on my mind but the top 3 should be:

Sword art online, when this show started airing i really thought that it will be one of the best shows that i will ever have the pleasure to witness, but after the first 3 episodes i lost all hope.

Kotoura-san, the first episodes of this anime convinced me that it was going to be a really good psychological drama, but it turned into a romance comedy, which was still good enough but it could be much better.

Mahou Sensou, i really liked the set up of this anime even though it was not unique, but it turned out to be one of the worst animes that i have ever watched.

M3, from great to dropped in 1 cour.

Captain Earth is utterly zig-zagging in quality right now.

Imocho I thought would've turned out ok, nope, it's the curse that's dooming ecchi anime this year.

Fantasista Doll would've been nice if they didn't degrade the quality to force mobileshit down the viewer's throat.

Yosuga no Sora would've been a near 10/10 anime if it stuck to Sora's route only.

Sister Princess Repure if it had full length episodes instead of those insert songs, it would've been as good as the first season.

Samurai Flamenco? To list that here is to assume it actually had potential in the beginning. No. The beginning was lame and just never got better.

SAO is a good example. But the downfall was much earlier than the ALO arc. SAO started sinking when it skipped from Floor 1 to Floor 22, then 64 (or something like that), but the horrible pacing made it so boring.

Black Bullet. The beginning was really good. The middle started to get a little boring, followed a mediocre ending.
