Episode 1 [spoiler] Well, I'm usually very optimistic for most shows for the first few episodes so it doesn't say much, but this episode was quite good. It didn't disappoint at least, though it also didn't WOW me. I like 'edgy' shows like this in general unless they are really terrible, so I should be having a good time watching Tokyo Ghoul. Though the censoring could get annoying to even me. |

Ep 1 [spoiler] Yeah I'm pretty optimistic for this anime too. Some really great gorey action. The animation was quite nice too, don't think I've seen anything I've liked this much from Pierrot since Area 88 lol. I think the thing that sets this apart from other shows of this nature is that it actually manages to have a consistent dark and serious atmosphere. A lot of these type of shows throw in a lot of light comedic scenes/fanservice/SoL which really messes with the atmosphere, but this managed to remain rather serious and very dark throughout. So yeah hopefully it can continue like this lol. |

Episode 1 The character designs don't stick out that much, but the scene composition sure does, with such careful attention to lighting and framing. As far as edginess goes, the good thing was the horror wasn't limited to bloody gore. The most intense moment for me wasn't any of the censored scenes or when Rize finally showed her true colors, but the psychological torture of not being able to eat normal food again. I already liked the OP when I heard it a month or so ago and I'm looking forward to the visuals for it. |

Episode 1 Oh, wow. That was probably my favorite first episode of the season so far. I loved it. I liked the early parts of the episode to, but like brian said, from the point he heard the t.v. report and made the ghoul connection to his own taste issues, I was glued. My main worry is that they abandoned his mental struggle now that he has tasted flesh and it turns into a turf war/ghoul vs ghoul blood war type deal. It still could be good even if it does turn into that, I suppose. I'll just try not to get too excited yet. |

Episode 1: Like Brian said, the most intense moment for me too was the bit where he was desperately trying to eat normal food. This is basically a vampire show by the looks of it - but then, that's what people said about Shiki and Shiki was so much more than that. I'm not a great fan of the 'clean' artstyle for the most part but it's not like it's badly animated or looks bad even to me, so I think I'm gonna enjoy it as long as it doesn't do anything too stupid ^-^ |

Episode 2 Oh my, this series is glorious. It has been a while since there has been a really good "blood bath" series. I'm so glad they kept up with the psychological issues Kaneki is experiencing. I'm hoping that Rize stays n his head all series. I noticed she is listed as a main character, so there is a good chance it seems. I really couldn't have asked for a better second episode. |

Episode 2 Little disappointed that the chorus section of the OP isn't more animated, but I like what it does with the reflections. Reflections are also a part of the actual episode as well as Kaneki is still torn between being half-human and half-ghoul. Speaking of reflections, when he finally gives into Rize's temptations, their facial expressions mirror each other. So, the psychological torture is still a prominent element, but it's venturing off into more B-movie silliness like "I'm dying!" x10 and that mad scientist looking dude at the end. Not a bad thing though! Silliness is more than welcome (might make it a little difficult to effectively portray "NOT ALL GHOULS", but we'll see about that when we get there), I'm more worried about the 90% censorship at the beginning of the episode. ED's certainly less memorable than the OP, but it's easy on the ears, I guess. |

Episode 2 [spoiler] I'm normally the last one to complain about censoring, but it's just too much in this. before the OP we basically missed a whole scene of who knows what. My other issue is with that guy Kaneki fought this episode. His behaviour seems irrational. If he just sees humans as cattle why does he blend in and live as a normal student then? Why did he force himself to eat what tastes like shit to him for basically no good reason? I just don't know what to make of him. The rest of the episode was pretty good, though the gore wasn't all that necessary in the fight imo. I'm interested in seeing how Hide reacts to Kaneki being a ghoul now (he obviously was awake during that conversation) and also about 'learning more about the ghouls' as that old guy mentioned. Maybe knowing how Nishio fits into the 'ghoul society' will make him seem less confusing. |

Doesn't seem like there was much to it other than him being obsessed with territory and settling down at the school allowed him to get the cream of the crop without other ghouls intervening. Alternatively, you can draw parallels with Rize and say he just likes seducing people. |

Episode 3 I really liked this episode. The censoring is a shame, but it doesn't hurt my enjoyment. I'm pretty interested in the masks, but also kind of confused. Do they keep these "metal" looking masks on their person at all times and quickly throw it on if they see a dove? Wouldn't that be suspicious behavior and draw too much attention, lol? Also pretty interested in the Doves. I thought they carried weapons in the cases but it appears the case itself is the weapon. Pretty crazy. Also, I can't get enough of that ED!! It is greatness. The OP is pretty damn good to. |

Ep 3 [spoiler] Yeah I'm loving the op, and it's great to see some real antagonists for the ghouls. I mean they already seem to be at each other's throats but now they have the doves to worry about too, who are pretty awesome IMO (but pretty OP it seems like). It was also nice to have the MC find someone to sympathize with in his troubles in adjusting to ghoul life with the daughter and the Cafe owner seems like a pretty chill guy, something tells me he's a beast in combat though. |

Episode 3 [spoiler] I agree this was a pretty great episode. The doves are definitely a real threat and the two we know so far seem to be merciless and borderline mental as well. I like them. A bunch of other new characters as well that I'm interested in. Mainly that guy from the last scene and the guy we didn't get to see who came to the doctor for 'something'. Definitely liked this episode even more than episode 2, hope it continues that way! |

Episode 3 This picks up where last week with left off with the juxtaposition of ghouls coexisting with butterflies and Mado's maniacal laughter. If the first half of the argument is NOT ALL GHOULS, then the second half has to be "…drive every last ghoul out of Tokyo!" It also takes the 2-faced imagery in the OP a step further with the ghouls being forced to wear literal masks. Speaking of blending in with society, the new character seems to be doing just that magnificently, covered in a layer of human sophistication. |

Episode 4 This newly discovered treat… Is, as regards my happiness… Even better than discovering a new star! I had mixed feelings about episode 2, but now that it's really reveling in its silliness with the voice of fuckin Berg Katze, I can dig it. Lol the way they made such a show out of cannibalism was amusing too. What a delicacy! |

Episode 4 [spoiler] Haha yeah I agree brian, the voice acting and the overall OTT aproach of this episode were pretty fun, though the predictability of the whole thing made me dislike the MC because he was too stupid to see any of it coming despite being warned beforehand. |

Episode 4 Really enjoyed this episode as well. I didn't have a problem with Kaneki being gullible here. He only recently became a ghoul, and a half one at that, so he still is attached to many of his human personality traits. He hasn't exactly warmed up to Touka enough to take her warnings 100% either. It was predictable from out standpoint because we are seeing all these facial expressions and body language from (cannibal guy) that Kaneki isn't seeing. Anyway, agree with you guys, this remains fun, yet brutal. I'm enjoying seeing the crazed way of life that these ghouls are living. Was hoping for some Dove action, next episode maybe. At the same time, I agree the MC is pretty standard right now. Nothing special. I liked him better as a character when he was suffering and hallucinating. |

Episode 2: I actually kiiiind of liked the silliness of SHINUSHINUSHINUSHINUUUUUU because that sort of thing was what I was expecting from the series from the start, so. Of course, I would be happy too if they kept it less OTT. Basically unless it really devolves into nonsense, there's not too much this show can do that won't make me enjoy it. Episode 3: That Moda guy is unnecessarily crazy xD As a side-note, I really like the art in each ED. |

Ep 4 [spoiler] I don't mind a little craziness and I can't fault Kaneki too much for trusting Berg Katze 2.0, because he's still young and Touka is kinda scary lol. Yeah the gladiator fight was cool I don't know why he couldn't activate his tentacle things though. |

[spoiler]You guys are way too trustworthy :P. I guess I was just under the impression that any Ghoul that isn't part of that cafe circle is potentially dangerous so I'd never trust a stranger more than the people that have already been established as being fairly nice/normal. Being new and still clinging to his humanity should just make him all the more scared of random Ghouls intruding on his life, considering what happened with Rize. Idk, it still seems too gullible to me :>. |

Episode 5 FORTISSIMO! I want to eat Kaneki while he eats her! So, it's like a less shitty version of the Human Centipede. Uh perverted is an understatement. Tres bien! HARMONY! And what do you know, sympathy for the devil. Aw shit, Mr. Fabulous just got NTR'd. |

Episode 5: XD I had exactly the same thought re: Human Centipede. (I very recently watched both films and actually rather enjoyed the first one - not nearly as bad as I thought. Second one was basically what I thought the first one would be lol...) Fun episode. I kinda hope Nishiki survives now. (With Kimi, of course.) |

Ep 5 [spoiler] DAT NTR D: Yeah pretty great episode, nice to see Toka in full form and learn about Nishiki's past. Much more realistic and relatable character now. Hopefully the others characters get the same treatment. |

Episode 5 I really enjoyed Nishiki's flashback as well, it made him almost likable and with his trust issues it even somewhat makes sense that he kept killing on his own instead of relying on the cafe to supply him with suicide meat. Had to lol about your human centipede comments guys xD. The end of the episode was definitely epic, I'm glad I don't have to suffer through the cliffhanger though ^^. Episode 6 [spoiler] Wow, that was a really heart-wrenching episode. First the part with the dad and then they used his remains to attract the daughter... (I think that's what they meant by using the dead body, but you might also be on to something Yoshi, the weapons are likely to be related to ghouls as well, that's usually how it works in such cases). Definitely very depressing, and I'm not optimistic at all that the mother will survive. Those two doves seem to kill anyone they encounter, with the exception of the actual bad guy they seem to be after (Jason, who I'm also quite interested in). They failed pretty hard when it came to that, and the only thing they ever leave behind are 'civilian' casualties. I hate them, but I do hope we'll get some backstory on them sooner or later. Anyway, in terms of emotional intensity this was definitely the best episode so far for me. |

Ep 6 [spoiler] XD lol'd pretty hard at the Tuxedo Mask thing. Yeah pretty good episode. I knew the girl and her family would have to start getting important at some point. Also agree their weapons seem to be made out of the ghouls tentacle things and the mother is probly gonna die. Yeah I feel pretty bad for the girls and at this rate a confrontation between the doves and Anteiku seems unavoidable. Also I imagine Toka's human friend is gonna dragged into this too. |

Episode 7 So, it seems Doves do use the Ghoul's abilities to craft their own weapons. A pretty brutal fate for Ryouko. Poor Hinami :'(. That crazy eyed Dove is crazy strong. He fought Touka with ease while teaching his partner lessons, lol. I really enjoyed this episode and Kaneki's mask looks badass! |

Episode 7 [spoiler] Another enjoyable episode, despite Ryouko's death which was quite sad. Touka killing that one powerless investigator wasn't very helpful in anyway, and the real threats were too much to handle for her (well, mainly eye guy) so yeah, not a smart decision. But at least she knows it. Kanekis mask indeed looks badass, I'm just worried he won't live up to it xD. |

Episode 7 "It happens a lot. The more earnest they are, the sooner they lose their lives." "It's okay if a killer like me dies. But when a ghoul like Mrs. Ryoko, or Hinami gets killed without any provocation…I can't bear it." "Whether a human dies of a ghoul dies, if it was someone that I knew, I wouldn't be able to take it." "Luckily, he was single. Imagine if he had some poor wife." "There's no good reason why Mr. Kusaba was killed!" I see the moral meat of this story is moving along nicely, considering how the clash of humans and ghouls affects both sides. "I won't kill any investigators, but I've had enough of not being able to do anything." Taking initiative, reinforced by the confident look in his eye as he dons the mask at the end. Whoever's handling the series composition of this show is doing a wonderful job, because it doesn't feel like a cut and paste job and instead, a natural progression of events. Oh and the fight scenes were pretty cool too. No censorship this time, yay! |

Episode 7 & 8: Really enjoyed these episodes, especially episode 8. They looked great, they sounded great, and I was stunned to see the mad inspector die so soon. Loved the juxtaposition of Touka and the other one-eyed more reasonable inspector, both screaming the same things about ghouls/humans in different places. Kaneki's mask is kinda cool too. |

Episode 8 I don't recall if this show's ever used faraway architectural shots like this before, but I like it. Like this is ridiculously good lighting. Stunning. Then, the opera comes in. I've just been taking screenshots, but the animation is no slouch either. In fact, it's fantastic. The use of shadow really heightens your hate for the guy. Nice perspective. Okay, I laughed pretty hard at this. The second opera track is even better than the first. Very impressive. Gotta love how nonchalantly he rationalizes his arm falling off. Nooice. Your move, SHAFT. 4-5 streams of tears is a bit much, but I really liked this episode. Far and away my favorite so far. "That ghoul...why did he let me go?" "I don't care...about revenge." Beyond what Sandy mentioned, you also have Kaneki and Hinami mirroring each other, which seems fitting. They're the youngest ones in the show, untainted by the endless cycle of hatred. It's crucial that Kaneki, a half-human/half-ghoul, feels the way he does, since his very existence represents the coexistence of the two sides. "I'm the only one...who is aware...who can communicate it...only me the ghoul...only me, the human..." Then it ends with the reveal of the marriage ring, contrasting this line from the previous episode. "Luckily, he was single. Imagine if he had some poor wife." Even a scumbag like Mado was important to somebody. |

Ep 8 [spoiler] Animation in this episode was pretty fantastic as Brian already pointed out. The scene with Touka removing the glove and seeing his wedding ring was indeed very poignant. Just an excellent episode in general, easily my favourite in the series so far. Looking forward to seeing Amon again. I wonder what (or rather who) his new weapon will be. |

Episode 8 [spoiler] Holy shit, this episode was amazing in all aspects. The visuals were stunning (nice screenshots brian!), the directing was also superb, I really loved the parallels that were drawn this episode as you guys have mentioned. The revelation of the wedding ring (and his death in general) were very impactful and the scenes with Kaneki and Amon may have lied an extremely thin foundation for humans and ghouls understanding each other. The only scene that made me shed a tear or two was Hinami's "I don't care... about revenge. I'm just... sad." Overall just a fantastic and intense episode, definitely my favorite of the show so far! |

Episode 8 Definitely a holy shit episode!! This was crazy good. Like, best episode of the Summer season good. You guys and gals have already said everything that needs to be said, but I'll repeat some things anyway. The animation was greatness, sure, but the emotions, revelations, and parallels between the Doves' and Ghouls' ideals were what made this episode a masterpiece. I'm with you Higashi, "I don't care... about revenge. I'm just... sad," got my feels flowing. The twisted circumstances before her comment really built into it. I hated that elderly Dove and then they have to go and mind fuck us by showing his hand. A lost love, a victim of a ghoul murder, no doubt. Still think the man got what he deserved, but I can't call it hate anymore. I'm watching this episode again for sure. Greatness! |

Episode 9 A setup episode, but still good. Shit is about to go down and I can't wait! I liked seeing how the two Doves, Mado and Amon first met. Though, I kind of wished we could've learned more about Mado's background. It seems Touka's brother became the "wild child" after all. Should be interesting to see how everything shakes down in these last few episodes. |

Episode 10 Dat rage, followed by accidental knockout lol. Dayum, Kaneki's getting rekt. "I'm going to show that trash that ghouls are above humans!" Kaneki and Touka may have broken free from the cycle, but there's still some bad seeds out there. Just as soon as I started having doubts about a 2-episode set-up, Mr. Fortissimo shows up. No kidding! |

Episode 11 Plenty of nice animation this week, but much of the scenes are either censored or too dark to really see what's going on. The fights towards the end are lit a little better, but they also don't last very long. Mado reflecting on the good ol' days with Amon and the reveal of white hair Kaneki (although, I feel like I'm missing some of the psychological torture that should've led up to that point, which is probably a result of this being a cut and paste job) were interesting enough, but "Hey…Hey, now, come on, h-h-hold it! W-W-Wait!" was the highlight of the episode for me lol. "Riding you like this invigorates me completely!" is pretty close though. |

Episode 11: The last shot of the episode was pretty cool, though as Brian said it was somewhat lacking in lead-up (funnily enough, since there's been plenty of lead-up in the last couple of episodes, yet this was still a bit lacking for me). Otherwise an alright episode. I'm used to the censoring so I'm not too bothered. My imagination's good enough lol. |

Episode 12 Well, this is the much needed psychological torture I was talking about last time. Going full ghoul is an important decision for Kaneki and it's just as important to see how he breaks down to reach such a decision. While we're finally treated to the full version of the OP and it has a nicely animated finish, I'm a little conflicted, because it does absolutely nothing with all the plot threads from the previous episode. I also think it failed to really capitalize on the momentum of episode 8, but I'm happy with what I got. 7/10 |

Ep 12 [spoiler] Yep a fantastic finale. Really brings it back full circle with the psychological struggle that Kaneki faced during the first 2 episodes and finally we have an answer of being a ghoul. The backstory with his mom and just the entire tone of the episode was great in general. Yeah some of the stuff with Jason was kind of OTT and somewhat difficult to take seriously and the transformation at the end was a little bit of a stretch, but it still ended up going pretty powerful. I agree with 7/10 |
