What was the first anime you watched that got you hooked onto animes in general?
Like mine for example was Shaman King (probably took interest because of the comedy and the plot i guess).
After that i started watching and looking up for other animes and mangas ^_^
If anime characters were real, i'd probably be the happiest person alive! Or just dead.... ^_^

I mean I started with DBZ and stuff of that nature but that is before I actually knew about what these Chinese cartoons really were. Rosario Vampire really got me going on the path to anime heaven.

The first I ever watched was Pokemon, but the first to officially make me step out of the Saturday morning cartoons mentality and go "what is this? I want to see more!" was Escaflowne. The medieval mecha fantasy world drew me in and the ost is forever engraved in my head.

The one that technically got me interested in anime in general was Mononoke Hime. DBZ may have been the first one I saw, but back then I didn't know it was anime.

Sasameki Koto, it made me realize anime wasn't all about action and supernatural powers and I could like things I never thought I would.

DBZ and Pokemon were the first anime I remember watching. I didn't know they were anime at the time though. I can't exactly remember what got me into anime in general. It was probably Naruto or One Piece.

Shows like DBZ, Pokemon, Zoids, Metabots, Digimon and perhaps some other "Saturday toons" set me on the path. But what hooked me was Full Metal Alchemist.

Funny that, it's really not high up on my preferences. More of a Slice of Life / Romance kind of girl, though I do quite appreciate some good action.

Haruhi Suzumiya was my gateway into amazing. No better way to start anime than with the most eccentric girl ever and a brilliant movie.

I watched shit like Pokemon, Naruto, DBZ and all that general toonami stuff when I was a kid but it gave me a bad opinion of anime rather than a good one until I watched Haruhi.
☕ Truth be told, I'm quite proud of my house blend. To attain my flavor and fragrance, I use five different types of coffee beans. ☕

Which means you started no earlier than 2009... and yet your completed list is larger than mine.

I started seriously watching anime back in 2005.. I'm awful at this.

Saint Seya when I was 5 years old. I might say that anime/manga experiences are a part of me as much as for the Japanese youth.

However, the anime title that made me interested in watching anime intensively as an adult is Spirited Away. Though I already knew that anime was a huge field full of sophisticated stuff.

Funny thing was that I had actually been watching a lot of anime without knowing it was anime. Then a friend told me a few years back (when I was 17) that Inuyasha, DBZ, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Card Captor Sakura, which were all shows I loved when I was around 12-13, were actually anime.

And then I watched two anime that got me into everything: CLANNAD and Black Lagoon.

well, the first anime i watched would have to be dbz and the like way back on toonami in the early 2000's, but the one that got me intrested in it was soul eater which was recommended to me by a friend a couple years ago. but the ones that truely got me going on the path to loving anime would have to be To Love-Ru and rosario + vampire ^.^.

And i have to agree with you, i watched Clannad early on in my progression of love for anime. it truely provided both a basis and deep connection with the romance genre that has continuously grown ever since i first watched it. it is most definitely one of the best made in that niche of animation.

Naruto is what got me interested in anime. I went on a whole week marathon trying to finish it, and then I found out there were 70 episodes of the Shippuden series.

Well the first anime I watched knowing it was anime was Lucky Star. It got me into SoL and Moe anime I guess, and it also introduced me to the cute art style and some otaku culture.
But then shortly after I watched Haruhi, and that really got me interested. Haruhi had good plot and fun characters. It showed me how great worlds and ideas anime can have and it was very entertaining.

^ This all happened in late 2011. Through 2011-2012 I was a really casual anime fan,I watched maybe 1 show a month or even less, and most shows were old well-known shows. My interest in anime slowly got bigger and in early 2013 I would say I started watching anime more regularily and learned about new airing anime, joined MAL.etc :)

Kanon (2006). I had most of the prejudices about anime like many non-anime viewers. Then I saw Kanon and realized how much beautiful anime shows there are out there.

Initially started watching Doraemon on early 1997, a series that first introduced me into mainstream anime airing on my country at the time, followed by DBZ, Yuyu Hakusho, Flame of Recca, and Slam Dunk.

Was once being vacuum from the medium for the entire year upon graduating from middle school, thinking that anime was just "children" stuff.

And then, during my second year of highschool (around 2009), my parents started subscribing to satellite TV, which immediately introduced me into "late night" anime through Animax Asia channel (with mediocre chinese and Malay subtitles). It's at this point of time where i got hooked by alot of stuff which form my tastes in anime as of today. Stuff like Code Geass, Mushishi, Aria series, and S-Cry-ed were among my very first favorites that still have special place in my memory.

Of all anime, Aikatsu!. While there are certainly anime with higher quality airing at the same time, this one got me hooked because I simply watched it without any expectations and suddenly the insert song just made me feel "Wow. This isn't simply kids' stuff and it will get better from here".
Nothing is bad for being in any genre or demographic, especially anime for kids.

Pokémon would have to be my first anime, but that was back when I didn't know it came from Japan. Then I would watch the various anime on Toonami at the time and that's when I discovered that anime was a thing and that's what made me love it.
