THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
hi!
i usually don't discuss anime, but i've just seen the first ep of Mushi-shi and it was like a meditation. I mean it really just took me all the way... it was a whole new experience.
the whole ep was so calm it made my body numb for a while, but the best thing about it was, that i did'nt even notice it until after the end. if all this sounds srange to you, you should deffinetly try it :-)
here's a brief insight on this ep: it starts off whit a description on Mushi, a lifeform that is so primitive, that it is said to be around since the start of life.
The story begins in a vividly green hill-side, where a young boy lives who has a left hand capable of creating something that he draws... a "child with the left hand of God". He lives alone since his grandmother has died 4 years ago and as a will left him the advice not to move away or reveal his powers. The main character of the story comes here to investigate this boy, but the boy kindly refuses. after they drink some and the main character searches for the toilet, he finds the boys grandmother... but only her mushi half, because it seems, that she has taken part in a ritual held by mushi. how the rest will turn out, see for your selves... :-)

Yeah Kilowatt, while I think Bartender has a similar mellow vibe, I will agree Mushi-shi is just uber calming and I think quite enjoyable! The first episode definitely made me curious for more...

The art is really good, even though I'm not that impressed, since I watched ef yesterday =P
This anime seems quite promising.

This series gives me a Miyazaki vibe, I really like the subtle tones and atmosphere created. The art style and supernatural dealings are very reminiscent of the Miyazaki films, and I'm loving it. ^^

Slow episode, but who said that slow can't be good? It was relaxing but didn't make me yawn at all, even when I watched it at 11pm half sleeping. The scenary and the supernatural beings, as MistressMorbid said, reminded me of Miyazaki films.

I feel so relaxed now...
Also, no-one mentioned it yet, but I really like the music... especially the opening and ending. After the episode ended I stayed on the couch for a minute to smile...
