I am seriously happy about how everyone is receiving Ping Pong despite its art. I thought it was going to be one of those shows overlooked just because of the edgy animation.

Anyway, great show 9/10

Kaio Academy noticed Sakuma's "Himekawa" hairstyle. Hahaha! Really wished he made a return.

Peco's "Thank you very much" as a kid was hilarious! Nice seeing how he used to protect Smile from his classmates.

Smile vs. Peco was epic. That scene where Smile breaks off his robot shell was great.
Liked how Peco didn't even hold back and continued & Smile rushed back immediately to resume playing!
Smile tasting his blood was actually a classic symbolism of him not being a robot but actually a human. Nicely depicted.

The conversation between the coaches outside was nice. How Koizumi wanted to play table tennis with that CEO guy again. Hahaha!

That photograph of the ending ceremony with Peco being the winner & Smile and Kazama standing beside them was really awesome.

Nice conversation between (grown up) Kazama and Smile. A little sad to know that both of them quit table tennis.. Well, still they're some great guys!
Liked how Kazama asked him if he has a girlfriend and Smile was like, "Who knows?" XD
Good to know Sakuma has settled down too.

Really happy for Wenge and Peco, playing in the Olympics. Peco looks awesome with that new haircut!

Great show! Epilogue was well fitted. An easy 9/10. Really loved it!

My reaction:

My first 10/10 this year.
"May those who accept their fate be granted happiness."

"May those who defy their fate be granted glory."

It was a beautiful final episode. Peco vs Smile match was so much fun to watch. Peco won the tournament.

Smile looked so much like Wenge at the end of epilogue.

Probably the most underrated anime of the Spring season; realistic ping pong games, major character development, unique art style, and amusing music. The ending of it was pretty perfect for me, but I felt bad that Smile lost.

This gives me a 9/10.

I really enjoyed the anime throughout I was secretly rooting for smile, but I was still extremely satisfied with the way the creator wrapped the show up. I kind of wanted to know what would have happened to the traveling man who left ping pong in the future since they brought him back, but it's not a big deal. 8/10

That was so good. Really liked how they did a quick time skip into the future. One of the AOTS for sure. Great series overall. Not sure if how I'm gonna rate it right now. Either 8 or 9.

Also, top notch music, great sports matches and I really adored the watercolour art style.

I'm curious, was this the way the manga ended? : o I don't think so because there was a dark skinned man during the match that wasn't really elaborated on...

I honestly cannot think of a legitimate reason this doesn't deserve a 9 or 10. I'm trying but I really can't think of anything outside of "oh it's just about ping pong" which imo is the lamest excuse ever. Excellent pacing, fantastic characters and great development, and the art style and animation both fit the expressive nature of the anime very well. And it culminated in one of the most cathartic endings I've ever seen in an anime. Outstanding

After watching this episode, score got bumped to 9/10. I always found the animation the poor part of this show but after this episode I noticed the brilliance of this art style. They also summed up everything very nicely. Having played competitive table tennis, I truly appreciated this show so this anime will always remain one of my favorites and I will probably re-watch quite a few times. Even objectively speaking: story = great, music = excellent, animation = excellent, characters = excellent...I predict that this anime will be one of the top rankers in MAL.

The way that Peco tried so hard as a kid to make Smile feel like a real human being was amazing... It was really touching ;~; I would've liked to see a little more of the match too but I really liked the ending. I hope Peco and Smile are still friends since their relationship really is special.

Loved this anime, this season was during a really busy point in my life but this was pretty much the only anime I kept up with despite that.

I believe this is how you portray a bildungsroman in anime. Even though I like sports anime, this was different-- right up to the ending. It's not about sports, it's about the growth of these boys, main character, or not. Damn, so much character development. Good fucking delivery of the ending. Solid writing (dialogue and everything). Amazing animation style. 10.

I was losing hope, but Yuasa (and i guess that dude who made this and tekkon kinkreet) never fails to remind me that anime is a medium, not some whackass shit.

how am i gonna enjoy summer 2014 after this (i mean check out the anime for this summer... things will NOT be lively again)

The ending was perfect imo. I honestly couldn't ask for more out of such a fantastic series, I enjoyed the ride from beginning to end. Seeing the characters mature, their triumphs/failures, and seeing everything come full circle in these short 11 episodes was absolutely worth it. The animation was fantastic too but that's a given with a Yuasa Masaaki series. I can't wait to rewatch it.

Definitely one of my favorite series this year so far. 9/10

Episode 11

I was screaming like a little girl when this adaptation was announced, not actually knowing anything about the source material, just happy that I was finally getting another Yuasa-directed show. I'll have to look into some of Matsumoto's other stuff when I get a chance, because I couldn't be happier with this match made in heaven. While visually impressive and musically easy on the ears, what I liked the most was how the character relationships were so carefully constructed to form all these parallels and contrasts, but still felt quite natural and organic. With Yuasa and Eunyoung Choi recently starting up their own studio, hopefully this means there will be more to look forward to from them in the near future. 10/10

i love how almost nobody has anything bad to say. the only minor complaint i've seen is that we should have seen more of the match, which as fun as watching that could have been, there was only one episode left to wrap eveything up and i don't think they possibly could have handled it any better.

Bravo.

The cinematography, the sound, the story, the characters. All spectacular. This was my favorite show this season. I'm so glad I gave it a chance way back in episode one.

I love how the big final wasn't the primary focus because it was never meant to be; there was something much deeper going on. I also loved Smile breaking through his robot shell and showing that he is human---that he also has blood like everyone else. Blood that tastes like iron.

For the sake of giving a quantifiable opinion: 9.5/10

If someone grabs a dictionary and checks the word "Perfect", they'll find both this show and this episode associated.

Yuasa has already accustomed us to masterpieces, and this one is probably my favorite so far. And I'm really going to miss both the series and, what were, some of the most well developed characters I've seen.
10/10 and AOTY for sure.

I can't think of a single thing I could really criticize about this show. It was quite the experience seeing how all these characters came together and found themselves through a simple table tennis game and how things became clearer and more framed as the series progressed. What a hidden gem.
