Most light novel readers and also some anime only watchers who have read deeper into the Mahouka Universe perhaps know of Tatsuya's true abilities and characteristics. Tatsuya can be said to be shown to have some godlike characteristics in the Mahouka Universe and I read that the Hindu God Shiva was possibly an influence in creating his character.

Clues

- Epithet - Mahesvara, The Destroyer

- Silver Trident

- Third Eye

- Powers: Decomposition, Regrowth

Also in Mahouka you could say that magicians with their powerful magical abilities that warp reality could be approximated to "Living Gods".

So what do you guys think of this theory?

There is some reference to the God Shiva for sure, his whole relationship between his sister is based off that. As for being a god just no.

Yes, so the Shiva influence explains quite a bit about his character. Also sorry I wasn't implying that he was a God, just that he had some of the characteristics of Shiva.

I think his abilities and powers were created with the influence of Shiva but I don't think his personality matches the personality of mahesvra. The ability to decompose everything into nothing and re grow nothing into something (of course there are some limits though) is essentially the work of god so it Is highly possible for tatsuya to be god like but he is definitely not god.

no, that's different.

Shiva is Hindu's GOD. The Destroyer.

Tatsuya has many similarities with MAHADEV.

When you pronounce Shiba in japanese's accent, it sounded like "Shi-va"
What is his second great title ? a part of Taurus Silver, and if you pronounce the english word of Silver in japanese way, you would hear it as "Shi - l - va" or "Shiva" again lol

Been reading some of the light novels.

Yes, Tatsuya is Shiva (the yokohama incident ending proved this, lightning indeed), but the comparisons don't end there. We have also have had a Kali and Parvati. Probably more if I spent some time thinking about it, but the writer is definitely up on his "Lord of Light" mythology.

There is already a thread on this, and yes he is based on Shiva, hell his nickname even calls him that.

But the similarities doesn't end there. The really important thing to know is: who is Miyuki based on. That explains far more things about this show than who Tatsuya is based on.

2- It's true that he loves Miyuki the most but his affection for the others keep growing by volumes, Miyuki noticed this too. Before this there was also the Honami incident.
4-His father knows and recognizes his talent, they can't deny his researches as Silver greatly helped FLT but he neglects him because he is a guardian.
7-Miyuki does not really need to catch up to Tatsuya since she is already at this level and there are magicians rivaling or stronger than her, Lina and Maya are more concrete examples but I could cite Juumonji and Masaki as well.
8-I only find the Shiva/Silver pronunciation is overdone, some bits of 18, 19 and 20 too.
9- The way the scars are placed on his body I can't really connect it with tiger stripes, there are even X shaped ones but it might be a reference.

^^Yes, I would agree that poster had a couple of "stretched" examples. However I don't think the writer went far enough on Miyuki, because when you contemplate who exactly she is, it confirms the theory.

Miyuki is far more powerful than Tatsuya. She beat Lina square up. But that isn't when she is her most powerful:

As for the names. The Japanese love name games, it is something inherent in the way the language is written. Take "Shi" - the character they use means "rule or administer", "ba" means waves. But another "shi" character is "four" and another "ba" character is leaves. In short: "Yostuba". While all Japanese numerals from 1-10 have two pronunciations (one Japanese and one Chinese) that are widely used, in Japan "four" is almost always pronounced with the Japanese sound "Yotsu/yon" because "Shi" can also be read as "death" (Seven is the other one usually avoided since "Shichi" also means "to cut").

As for Shiba and Silver, yes they are pronounced the same way (as is Shiva), so Tarus Silver means "Silver Bull" (which Shiva has), and his gun is "silver horn" which is another icon from Shiva's iconography.

I was disturbed with the "eye-sex" thing. Seriously!?

Other than that, I'd like to add that Miyuki uses Ice-based magic which is commonly associated with Shiva/Parvati in most modern games and novels.

Imo some of the webmaster's idea is just going overboard like tiger stripes, passing consciousness, eye-sex...
