I'm coming late to this but this thread lacks much data. There are twelve books in the series accordion to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guardian_series Only two of them were published in English in North America. They are both still available from Amazon. The first one is what the anime was based on so Moribito II: Guardian of Darkness is an all new story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moribito_II:_Guardian_of_Darkness (Spoilers!) They were intended to be children's books but there are many adult fans in Japan. They even made a radio drama out of the first two novels. If the rest of them are as good as the first two, I really hope someone somewhere translates them sometime soon.
