Interesting Mushi
Poor Masumi getting dumped like that, but the guy was very honest at least

Ginko acting as her shrink was nice to see

Great episode. The setting was even more beautiful than usual (the reflection of the lake was downright amazing) and as always the sound effects made the atmosphere simply perfect.
Ginko being a pal and helping that mushi was also cool to see.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

The music in this episode was fantastic, even more so than usual with mushishi. The scene at the end with Ginko and the Mushi was amazing.

I wanted to sympathize with the girl, because that guy really was a douche, but she really made me dislike her wanting to throw her life away. Perhaps this was due to her weakened state due to the mushi, but she needed to get slapped. If she wants to die, let her die. God! Made me so mad. She couldn't even wait to recover before she chased that mirror reflection in the mountain. Think of your health, lady!

It's about time someone mentioned how good looking Ginko is <3 It's been implied-- I mean who can resist? -- but never mentioned directly. And him with the mushi in the end was adorable. He's such a nice guy.

At first I thought this episode is not really as good or as impactful as the preceding ones...but by the end of it, I was convinced otherwise. In its simplicity, this episode conveyed such a fundamental message about humanity. About how we, as humans, need to appreciate that which we take for granted, and how the constant cycle of hope and disappointment drives us to act. It was wonderful.

And of course, the little humorous bit endeared itself to me even more. I kind of saw it coming but parents' and Ginko's reactions were very amusing nevertheless.

Oh and the animation of the lake's reflection was especially lovely.

Mizukagami was a interesting Mushi. Taking the shape of Masumi and making her existence fade away while itself becoming more 'real'. I'm glad that it did not switched over the real Masumi.

I feel bad for Masumi though, she was heartbroken when that man rejected her, I think a tomboy like her will be a good wife.

Ginko was so cool when he explained to her that she should value her life more. Hilarious ending when Masumi was infatuated with Ginko.

The episode felt heavy with the sad moments when it portrayed human emotions at best but it was concluded well enough! A perfect episode for my weekend.

Ginko's conversation with Mizukagami was so beautiful, I was so happy that Ginko was being considerate for both the Mizukagami and Masumi.

Can't wait for next episode. :)

Well, ain't she lively in the end.

Judging by the parent's reaction, it's clear that they've seen their fair share of it.

Maybe the best episode so far. The sequence where the girl wandered into the forest, sat down, then eventually left was incredible. No dialogue was spoken, just the sounds of nature for a good 20 seconds.

Mushi are such such dicks, no matter how you look at it, they bring nothing but misfortune and misery.

that's such a simple and shallow view on the world Mushishi is trying to depict. Mushi operate purely on instinct, they are an essential part of the world and it balances things out much like what bateria and virus do to us. On many levels, they bring diseases and suffering but without them our ecosystem will break apart and life will not be sustainable. Mushi was a key component in bringing prosperous farms and thriving mountains.

Mushi don't do harm because they consciously choose to, they do this because that's their drive to survive. There are a lot of episodes in which mushi prove to be helpful. In Episode 3, Mushi was not responsible for the protagonist's depression but it helped him survive under the water. In Episode 2, the mushi helped predict upcoming disaster. Ginko will not be able to relay messages without the help of mushi.

I can't believe I waited this long to watch this episode. OST and especially the art were exceptional in this episode. Very strong story and I especially love it when the mushi act like how the humans do (like they did in ep2). The mushi follows a person around hoping to take their place. In the same way, the girl wasn't really doing her own thing, she was waiting for or "following" that guy.

The whole depression aspect of it can be easily relatable. The girl was so fixated on the idea of being with that guy that nothing else mattered to her. Even after he explicitly told her he doesn't want her as a wife she still goes back up the mountain, perhaps thinking he changed his mind or just to see him again.

Reflection in the eyes was kind of lame but well, it drives home the great difference between mushi and man so I can look past it.
-Nothing can stay unchanged. Even so, can you still keep on loving this place?

-Be still my soul; when change and tears are past, all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

A much calmer and simple episode in contrast to last week's. I like how it delved into the nature of the mushi a bit more with Ginko's speech about them possibly having no souls but trying to crawl out of darkness regardless. It also makes me appreciate just how fortunate we as humans are, to be able to do so much in comparison to floral and fauna.

Got a good laugh out of Masumi trying to hit on Ginko and chasing him away. I really like the lighthearted breaks of comedy relief.

Ginko's compassion for the mushi really is something else. It reminds me of when he takes that mushi away in S1 that was possessing the children and the whole "Why haven't you killed me?" "Because you're still alive."

This.

Loved that scenery with the lake.

MASUMI

MAN

LOL

It's fabulous how the first few notes of the first song played after the OP dictates the overall mood of the episode. I knew it was going to end with me smiling (in contrast to how I was shitting all over the place at the end of ep4).

And the last part OOOOOOH MMMMMMAAAAAAIIII GAAAAAAAAD. Ginko was talking to the mushi saying that he'll lead it somewhere better!!! OH MY GOD.

HAPPY MAX

"I don't want a tomboy like you as my wife. I want someone who has a gentler temperament."

Seriously though, this was a beautiful episode with a deep message. I think this will hit home for a lot of people who've felt that kind of loss of self and loneliness - including me. I was pretty positive this was going to be the first episode of the season with a sad ending, but, ironically, I'm happy it didn't. It was better to show Masumi having moved on.

This philosophy in this episode really is too beautiful.

I don't think he was actually communicating with it, rather he was just talking to it in the same way we will talk to an animal. He was leading it further into the mountains where it wouldn't cause people problems, and the Mushi followed not because it agreed, or even understood, but because that's just what it does when someone's reflection is cast into the lake.

Good episode though. The themes of loneliness were well handled and the ending was cute.
