"do you even have a soul!"

^ This mainly is a saying when someone questions another's morality. As usually one's conscience is seen as apart of the soul.

Personally I believe a soul would be your consciousness, emotions, and conscience.

Yup.

Come to think of it. I make too many threads of things that we don't know about lmao.
We need a philosophy board separate from casual discussion considering how popular they seem to be lately.

I really don't want a section dedicated to pretentious users who think they have deep thoughts.
Better that than having these vile miscreants inhabiting this board.

Guess I'll just log off then.

A metaphor I use in writing because it sounds grandiose and important

In reality, whatever it is that makes you alive and not dead, maybe electrons

(Theology) the spirit or immaterial part of man, the seat of human personality, intellect, will, and emotions, regarded as an entity that survives the body after death.

According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, soul is "music that arose out of the black experience in America through the transmutation of gospel and rhythm & blues into a form of funky, secular testifying."[2] Catchy rhythms, stressed by handclaps and extemporaneous body moves, are an important feature of soul music. Other characteristics are a call and response between the soloist and the chorus, and an especially tense vocal sound. The style also occasionally uses improvisational additions, twirls and auxiliary sounds.[3]

Basically, it's James Brown.

When modern scientists speak of the soul outside of this cultural context, they generally treat soul as a poetic synonym for mind. Francis Crick's book, The Astonishing Hypothesis, for example, has the subtitle, "The scientific search for the soul". Crick held the position that one can learn everything knowable about the human soul by studying the workings of the human brain. Depending on one's belief regarding the relationship between the soul and the mind, then, the findings of neuroscience may be relevant to one's understanding of the soul. Skeptic Robert T. Carroll suggests that the concept of a non-substantial substance is an oxymoron, and that the scholarship done by philosophers based on the assumption of a non-physical entity has not furthered scientific understanding of the working of the mind. (src)

TL;DR - It can be used as a poethic way to refer to the brain.
Nice explanation.

I was always taught that the soul is the seat of the mind, will, and emotions.

Though these attributes are undeniably tied to the physical (body) they also transcend it.

Your thoughts, emotions, hopes, dreams and aspirations etc. Some might say it's what makes you the person you are, the "substance" of a human being.

That just means you are curious to see what others have to say about the unknowns we face in our day and age. Right? At any rate, I do not believe that souls exist. Spiritual beliefs just aren't my thing to be honest.

No such thing as a soul. I have never heard of any scientific explanation for it (only religious ones), so I suppose it doesn't exist.

Thanks, person who gave me this on another site a long time ago, lol.

A "soul" is an ambiguous superstitious concept invented during a time when we hardly grasped an understanding of biology, yet it still remains popular today by playing to people's desire for immortality.

No one has a soul. You have a brain that is firing neurons which produce the phenomenon you know as consciousness.
