It may not be but it doesnt necesarily translates to reallife. I feel zero attraction to men IRL so I assume that I am straight. I also dont feel sexually attracted to animals, shit, monsters, aliens, and what other crazy shit I am fapping to. It may help that I dont self insert myself into what I am fapping to, its probably why I can fap to almost every kind of doujinshi.

I had wanted to give some deep meaning on the hows and whys from someone who has enjoyed Yaoi and BL for a very long time, but instead I decided to keep it simple.

YAOI/BL- Target audience is Female. Why? It's a break from having to watch , Whiny, Bitchy, Clingy, Violent, Useless girls. Females enjoy looking at guys, can relate to them. It's not about self insert, it's about two beautiful guys falling in love despite everything.

Yuri/GL- Target Audience Male. Its a break from having to watch, Pathetic, Wimpy, Clingy, Bitchy, Stupid and Lame boys trying to win over the Hot girls. I don't know if it's about self insert or not, but Men like to watch girls, for various different reasons.

And as far as Traps are concerned...
Guys see to like them for some reason.....
Girls just find them absolutely adorable, and know they are just looking for the right Seme.

Honestly...it's really basic...

Yuri is an art medium that brings joy and beauty to the industry.
Yaoi doesn't do much.

Old yuri(pre 2000s/2010's) was aimed at mostly females. And even modern yuri(2010+) still has a mixed gender fanbase.

There are a lot of yuri manga done by woman and their target audience is not male.
Shitty yuri fanservice in anime is another story though.

Yaoi are two men that one of them seems a girl so what's the point. At least if I wanna read boyxboy I want boyxboy instead boythatseemsagirlandactslikeonexboy.
Well, I've read only one yaoi manga before and it was like this but I'm not expecting nothing "better" anymore.
I've never read yuri so I can't say nothing.

But I'm open to read yaoi or yuri if it has decent characters and a decent plot.

Loli yuri is the ultimate form of innocence and purity. We could solve all of the world's problems if everyone would just humble themselves and bask in its joy.

Not yaoi though. That's just gay.

I think they mainly exist as categories to help people who like to see gay relationships explored find them and warn bigots off from them. I remember once reading a review of a manga that had a gay character and the reviewer got very pissy that the manga wasn't labelled yaoi because a gay character existed in it.

What do they bring? Stories for gay people and also people who are into reading all sorts of romance stories I guess. I prefer them to straight romance stories because there's less gender role bs if you find the right stories (plenty of them don't have that whole seme-uke dynamic).

There's no difference between an yaoi, an yuri, and a romance. People just use labels so that way no unsuspecting homophobe won't accidentally read one and get angry. In a way I am a little more forgiving of romance bullcrap in yaoi and yuri as in regular romance, it's "just confess already!" but with yaoi and yuri they're scared the other person won't accept them, thus creating drama that actually makes sense.

And fan service, can't forget that. Sweet, sweet fan service.

The overwhelming majority of yaoi fans are straight girls....

Anyways, I don't really understand why people are surprised yaoi/yuri is labeled as such...

We label everything when it comes to anime....a mecha show is technically action, but we still label it mecha, action, adventure, shounen, etc.....not just action by itself.

Furthermore, yeah....there's a lot of bigots out there that lose their shit when they see two dudes in a romantic way.

BUT conversely, a lot of people who are not bigoted towards gays will see a yaoi and be repulsed by it...

It simply has to do with tastes.

Only yuri shows I've watched are Yami no Boushi to Hon to Tabibito and a few episodes of Akuma no Riddle. I like both shows, but both would be fine it they weren't yuri shows to begin with. The yuri adds absolutely no enjoyment to these shows at all.

I have taken a liking to at least some yuri anime. Although I don't actively seek romance in my life, I do strongly lean lesbian, so I can personally identify more with lesbian romances than with heterosexual ones. For this reason alone, I seek out yuri.

There are many different kinds, so blanket statements regarding this category aren't terribly useful. Of course, some series exist primarily to pander to male fantasies, but many (even if they do pander) have additional purposes. Lesbian relationships and friendships that nearly cross the line into lesbian romance can be good for comedy, at least in those series that don't take themselves too seriously. Sakura Trick and Yuru Yuri are good examples; they are entertaining mindless fun. On a more serious note, Aoi Hana and Sasameki Koto take the concept of lesbian relationships seriously and explore them in a way that doesn't pander excessively to shallow fantasies. This type of series is uncommon; it seems that a serious, sensitive take on lesbian relationships doesn't sell all that well in the anime scene. There are also quasi-yuri series that explore friendships in a serious way without crossing over completely into romance; Maria-sama ga Miteru is an excellent example of this type, and it was popular enough to last for four seasons and inspire some imitations and parodies.

Of course, yuri hentai is bound to be plentiful, but I haven't really looked for it. Like pornography in general, I'm sure most of it is just boring, but if I found something that was so bad that it was funny, I would be pleased.

I haven't yet experienced any yaoi, but although I might have a hard time personally identifying with the male-male relationships, I see nothing wrong with them, and I probably would like a well-written and well-executed example. However, I doubt I would like a series that simply appealed to perverted and/or sexually frustrated women. I may be old and fat, but I'm not into crude sexual fantasies. I prefer good storytelling. From what I have heard, most yaoi seems to be in the crude sexual fantasy category.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Yaoi and yuri are both subgenres of romance, the difference is sexual orientation.

People just think it's mindless fanservice because they are judging based on hentai etc.

A lot of people hate yaoi even though many of these yaoi animes has males who has feminine features. A real man doesn't have sexy white skin and sexy legs.

I'm straight and I think males like this are very attractive
http://s33.photobucket.com/user/caraniel/media/Screenshots/BT6-trapgallery.jpg.html

And in my opinion, anime likes Boku no Pico and Natsuyasumi are clearly targeting straight audience. If they were for gays, then why the main characters have feminine features ?

It's not plentiful at all, at least as animated material. There are two to be exact, both crappy adaptions of their source material (plus one extra crappy one from the 90s). Still, I find most of these light comedies to be the boring ones when it comes to yuri, while I've found quite a few ero stories put up effort to build the character's relationship and show their inner thoughts, and also be adept at comedy. It might not be world class writing, but it is enough to understand and care about what is going on. Besides, anime porn doesn't always work like real porn. Many are catered to the same audience after all, so it is important that they have the same feel and tropes that their audiences like.

It had more than that, not only did they did do more than a kiss and the timing of the episode really caught a lot of people off-guard, their personality also did a full turn, specially Shun's.

It was relevant to the plot with the emphasis on population control to rein in their psychic powers. The characters in shinsekai yori aren't the meat and potatoes of the series, but rather it's story that is the most captivating aspect of the show. I didn't really care about the discrepancies in the character's personality as shinsekai yori's finer aspects are the story and setting.

Yes, it was perfectly relevant to the plot, in fact, I don't think the plot would be nowhere near the same had they opted this aspect out of the show.
But doesn't it being relevant to the plot only further proves that it had more to it than just a kiss?
I agree with the rest of your post.
