Once more a great episode, very interesting Mushi this time as well with another very tragic backstory! Let's see what's next.

I have to say, this may be my favorite episode of mushishi yet, It just really felt powerful from start to finish and its a testament to how this series manages to make me care for characters in such a short time.

Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

Toshiro Masuda seems to have outdone himself in the music department. Is it just me, or the music in these last three eps has been a notch above most of the tracks in the last season?

I think the music last season are better. I'm still waiting for something that can top Kago no Naka, Umi Sakai, and Haru to Usobuko in my book. ^^

I think last season was better too. For me, it's these 4 that stands out.

Ginko looks funny in that coat.
Damn, falling into such a freezing water..
Wow, how cold Toki had to be if Tae's cold body warmed him.
Eh, again something was lacking. And it started so well.

How did Toki not lose his nose or ears when he lost several fingers and toes? And another happy ending. With three happy ending episodes in a row, I can't help but think about how horrible the sad endings will be when they come.

Frigid, being lost in an eternal winter, waiting for it to suffocate you. Do you run with all your might, afraid of being consumed by the white death that hunts you like a monster? Or do you accept it, knowing being consumed by it is inevitable, and melt into it until you are one with it - until you are winter itself?

That is the kind of atmosphere I felt during this episode. Haunting, painful, yet somehow tranquil. The scenery was beautiful.

Winter episode. Fuck yes. 10/10

Just like in the first season, there's just something so beautiful within these winter based episodes :)

Shame he lost some fingers and toes, but he survived, thats what mattered.

Another great episode from Mushishi.

Is it just me or the title of the episode "Beneath the Snow" (Yuki No Shita) reminded me of Yahari? LOL

Well put, Tingy.

I'm glad you like Mushishi too. I'm usually not too keen on anime where nothing much happens (slice of life comes to mind), but this kind of 'slow' anime, with a tinge of strangeness and mystery, is something I love. The music, the pacing, the calmness of it: it all fits.

Indeed, Ginko was mostly just an observer this time around. In fact, to some extend, he always is. But it shows, as you said, that he's only human too, and can't solve everything. I mean, what was he supposed to do: force the guy and chain him up close to a fire? That would have been out of character. He helps people who want to be helped, but for those that refuse help, he simply observes, albeit with empathy.

It's such a great character, and with the unseen world of strange 'living' creatures, it gives such a great but weird and mysterious impression as an anime. It's completely different than all other anime out there. The closest - in terms of strangeness - that comes to it, is Kino's Journey, but that has less of the soothing calmness in it.

Oh hey, I feel like I haven't seen you around for awhile. And yes, Mushishi has become one of my favorites since I watched the first season last summer, I'm glad you like it as well despite this type of anime usually not being up your alley ^^ The overall atmosphere of the anime is just one of a kind.

That's exactly what I was getting at, how Ginko can't help everyone unless they want to be helped. It's one of the things I like about Mushishi, how not every story will end up a happy one. As a mushishi, he encounters all kinds of people and all kinds of "endings," and that makes it feel quite realistic.

You know, the entire Mushi-shi series sounds a lot like metaphors for human strife, and Ginko is almost a psychiatrist / doctor in these episodes.

He observes, educates, and studies the invisible things that plague human mind, and he helps people overcome or live comfortably with their individual illnesses.

Tragic stuff but at least Toki's back to normal now, not counting a few fingers and toes. I said the bird in the seashell mushi from last episode was my favorite one so far but then they show us the mighty roly poly mushi xD

Ginko's drawings are as cool as him. Fun 'cause he drew 'snow' which is cool, too (more like cold haha.)

I had a feeling that Toki might not die but Tae would definitely get into danger 'cause of him. And it happened. Thank God he managed to save her tho and learnt to feel warmth again. Too bad, he lost some of his fingers and toes tho... His fault for not listening to Ginko's warning.

Very good episode once again.

Ofc it'll take the same incident for Toki to snap out of it. I'm glad Tae was able to save him, and Toki for her as well. There's someone who still worries and cares for him, as well as his family, so he shouldn't go to his little sister just yet.

Another great beautiful episode. He didn't manage to cope with his sister's death, thus just abandoned self-care, ignoring those around him. That's how it usually goes, for some people. At the end he realized that there're people around him that care, that love him dearly. Interesting Mushi though, as always.

The narration is quite interesting and fascinating. The episode has the right degree of drama and lets itself be looked at without spilling rivers of tears, at least for me. The visuals have expanded in these souls: now even the backgrounds have a greater weight on the visible plane, the same for the drawings. Furthermore, another change in this anime series is the role of the character of Ginko, not only as an absolute protagonist, but also as a mere character that surrounds the story, thus giving more visibility to the characters of the story. Excellent ending and OST.

wooo about time we got a bit of a darker toned episode, one where the people affected by the Mushi don't come out without loosing a thing or too.
Really liked the darker episode of the last season, added the extra thought to "not all the Mushi we see are actually safe" and we are yet to know what world ending beasts actually live in this world
