to read more shoujo manga than most girls? There are all these annoying asian girls at my school who are complete weaboos but as it turns out I've read more shoujo manga than all of them combined, and I rarely mention anime/manga in my daily social life (it's more of a personal hobby). Is it weird for a guy to like shoujo manga that much?

Yeah, I don't know why but I can't keep away from shoujo, and other mangas focused solely on romance and drama.... It's not like I don't read anything else but idk, i really like the feeling of the heart throb that shoujo manga can sometimes give. Currently I'm waiting on English scans for Suki desu suzuki-kun...haven't read such a heartfelt manga in a long time + there is drama <3

Having read only a handle of of shoujo manga, while the rest I found no interest in, I can't really say. However, even if it's weird, fuck it! What's wrong with liking strange shit? Lololol

it totally by taste. Of course I also know a guy who read a lot of shojo manga, and less shonen in comparison. Outside of that, he is perfectly normal.

No. Is it weird for girls to like shounen? I love both shonen and shoujo, as long as they are good.

Shoujo romance > shounen romance.

It might be weird. But then again, reading manga in and of itself is kind of weird. Outside Japan at least.

To answer your question: yes, it is weird for a guy to read a lot of shoujo manga. However, this does not mean it is a bad thing. Keep on reading as long as you enjoy it and do not let others hinder your hobby.

I voted "no," but I would have picked that option if it existed.

I know male persons younger and older that read shoujo manga; one of them is a Marine and took some copies of "Fruits Basket" and "Skip Beat!" with him to read in Afghanistan. I know girls who read hardcore pornographic dojinshi aimed at creepy middle-aged otaku; one of them went to Japan, proudly marched into a shop in Akiba and bought a stack of them two feet tall. (In all fairness though, she admitted receiving some odd looks from both the TSA agents going through her stuff and said otaku in the dojin-shop in Akiba).

Everyone accepts them for who they are, not everyone is friends with them, but no one actively looks down upon them. As if reading some cutesy comics was enough to be 'weird' anyway. If you want to see some real nut cases, just turn on C-SPAN and watch the US Congress at work.

About 40-60 series off the top of my head in the last 6 or so months? (Idk if that is a lot but...) and I read a lot of manga, and I don't really read a ton of shojo compared to others proportionally but I feel like I read it way more than I should (I'd say around 40% of what I read is shojo)

I'd say it's fine. When I started seriously reading manga at grade 10, I also read some shoujo, or even gender-bender ones... I think I was one step away from reading BL. Fortunately I stopped myself before that.

It's not socially acceptable because it's not widely available or popular. It has nothing to do with being from Japan.

Pokemon is completely socially acceptable. Because it's a popular television show, and even more popular video game. Nintendo is socially acceptable. Toyota is socially acceptable. Sushi is socially acceptable.

Manga is unpopular because it's own unpopularity perpetuates itself. Also, reading right to left is not what anybody is used to.

I don't mind shoujo series, but most of the time they have those horrible traits in their drawing style which I hate.

That aside, it isn't weird.

That is a surprisingly interesting point. Most of the anime/manga-watching girls I know read mostly shounen only.

Probably for the most people can be strange, because they can have preconceptions, but in reality this fact is normal, maybe rarely, but normal, surely.
At most they can think that you are homosexual(preconception)

Moreover I don't think strange if a girl read violent manga, or genres for male's public, so why can't the same thing for the guys? Mistery...

Lol, don't put too much thought about it. It was a surprise for me at first when I joined a club that enjoys romance-comedy which consist of more males than females. They're great. Haha! Having conversations with them are the best. Especially when talking about series.
