Episode 116 is a perfect example of why not having a lot of narration is better. Some of the problems I have with the narration, is that it completely kills subtlety. Having inner monologues and narration at the same time, make the character feel shallow.

I liked how episode 116 made me think about Gon, and go back through the series to make sense of his actions. If the narration explained Gon's anger at that episode, I wouldn't have wondered or tried to interpret Gon character deeper. Later on Gon's anger is explained through a lot of little inner monologues speeches, that I liked a lot. Inner monologues give more of personal touch to the characters, compared to the omniscient narrator.

How would it feel shallow? And how would it kill the subtlety?

As for subtlety, like we said before, if narration were to go, it'd be replaced by monologue, and if not, it would just be speculations/over-analyzing if anyone even bothers to look in depth in the first place. Like killua's bluffing last episode. It wouldn't have been subtle, it would have been vague.
In many times, it's the narration that adds new layers that includes a lot of subtleties in itself, rather than exposing those in the original scene.

Ironically enough they are frequently lost on many people as "unsubtle" as they are. The fact that there is narration is often distracting to people enough to divert them from whatever is being narrated.

It seems like there's a new topic about this here, every few weeks. Honestly, the narration definitely bugged the crap out of me in episodes 111-115. It took something that should have been exciting and weighed it down with unnecessary information. Since then it's become a bit less frequent and has focused more on things that aren't as obvious, so I'm not as bothered by it anymore.

I for one am absolutely loving the narration!! I really really hope they bring it back next arc (if there is one)
