I like The Place Promised in Our Early Days a little better, but it's sad that voices of a distant star isn't in the running. ![]() |

The Place Promised In Our Early Days. I found though I loved the visuals in 5 Centimeters Per Second, there was that bit more variation in TPPIOED, using lot's of different locations and still imprinting them into the memory effectively. Although I think 5CMPS did the whole mood through colours and soft visuals, I just really enjoyed the elements of clever lighting and how the story was told much more efficiently through its art over dialogue. I also preferred the character designs in TPPIOED, I think Makoto Shinkai really refined his style there. edit: also I thought mention how nice it is to see an AMV to maybeshewill XD (massive post rock fan alert >.>) Modified by Krystal, 09-04-09, 3:42 PM |

this was a really hard decision but in the end my vote will have to lean slightly toward 5 cm per second....it was a really hard decision though....there are zero to no discrepancies in these animes but my personal preference has to go to 5 cm :P |

This was a great post, and I think Krystal makes some very good points. However...like madskizzles said, I found almost no discrepancies with 5 cm's art. The detail shown is impeccable. In my eyes, TPPiOED seemed a little less refined the 5 cm, but the color scheme TPPiEOD had was better than 5 cm's... The Place Promised in Our Early Days was definitely up there, but if 5 cm's art was a 10, I would give TPPiOED a 9.8. Maybe because 5 cm was done later than TPPiOED... This decision was unbelievably hard, as both films' art simply blew me away. I'm a sucker for fantastic scenery... So, 5 cm per second. |

Both are awesome movies. But I think that 5 cm per second was simply amazing. Every scene in the movie is beautiful. Although to be fair I did watch this one with DIVX. Modified by Nii, 09-05-09, 1:02 AM |

Yeah I know what you mean, scenery done well actually amazes me more than character designs themselves, I just love really stunning aesthetics. Like some of the carefully chosen backdrops in Ef ~ A Tale of Memories~ perhaps not my favourite anime plotwise but the way the art emphasises the mood is done very cleverly. I guess I just found that a lot more in APPIOED over 5cm. I think despite 5cm being done after I guess it was the variation of the scenes in APPIOED that won me over. XD Though you are quite right, it is a difficult decision to make since they are both so flawless. |
