what is love? can machines love? are they alive because they have emotions or do they have emotions because they are alive? what is the definition of being alive?

Was going to wait for the episode to air on Toonami, but...
Definitely one of the funnier and lighthearted animes (for the most part anyway). Glad Bones went all out in animating this episode, reminded me of FLCL in a way. Thanks Watanabe for going against the trend and giving us something different. Guess Ill be watching the new Mushishi until the summer season.

- Love is strong affection/attachment
- Not any that we've built so far, but in principle obviously yes, unless you only count love as love if it includes associated qualia and you also believe souls exist and you believe they only attach themselves to meat and never silicon.
- Neither! The definition of "alive" used by biologists has nothing to do with emotions, and there are more living things on this earth that don't feel emotions than there are ones that do, e.g plants
- Something biologists tend to argue about a lot because of edge cases like viruses, really it doesn't matter much since like I said it's nothing to do with the ability to feel emotions (which is what's important).

Not an original idea BUT, that's where Space Dandy really shines to be honest.
The way the writers are able to convey human emotions through robots better than the sea of horrible rom-com animes out today make me feel very grateful shows like this exist.

It's great seeing the usually pragmatic QT being emotional about something (fishing last time haha).

Friendzoned by a coffee machine. This must be an all time low for QT. Anyway that was a rather sad way to end off the season.

A solid episode to end on for now. There were some top notch animation sequences towards the end and great music to go along with it. 8/10

The first batch of episodes have been pretty fun, but I think there's certainly room for improvement in terms of consistency and maybe the second half will be a different story. The teaser suggests another drastic change in art style, not to mention Yuasa is directing episode 16 and apparently, Dai Sato supposedly confirmed that Urobuchi will be involved somehow. So, it still seems to be full of variety and I'll be looking forward to the rest of it.

Watanabe and his team are really something special. This is a simple story yes, but it so genuine and of powerful emotion that you can almost feel the deep passion they used making it, just like the previous episodes. The OST is excellent, but I wonder which tracks Yoko Kanno worked on? I guess she worked on soundtracks that will go on-air in the second season because I haven't heard her much in this 1st album.

Anyway, 9/10. My AOTS.

I'm curious when people mention consistency. Do they mean the consistency in the characters? Or consistency when it comes to how good the episodes are?

that's reasonable! It's just that lot of people are looking for things that weren't intended on being in the show to begin with (standardized character development, etc.)

The series has been really enjoyable for me, but some episodes lacked hard. Other episodes were great though, and funny. I'm hoping something actually happens in the next season. Otherwise, the show was good for laughs. 8/10.

Really? Who is that "a lot of people"?

Anyway the episode was okay, somewhat predictable with the whole fall in love thing, because every main characters always end up last. Episode 10 is still the best, loved Meow's hometown and his story. I think I will watch the sequel..

Oh a QT episode, nice. Aw someone's in love. That is the 23 days on how it happen XD. It was emotional during the second half.

The OST's were like autotuning music, they are pretty great though.

It wasn't no Cowboy Bebop, but it was enjoyable.

Loved episode 5 and this one. The music was always good, but some episodes felled flat. Plus there wasn't enough of Honey.

welp this is the day ive been dreading for months, thankfully with the news of 13 more episodes awaiting us in 3 months has weakened the blow its still gonna take time for me to adjust to not having my weekly pick me up show, the episode was great and made a character i never really cared for really likable, the animation and music was top notch and the writing was one of the better of the series

I loved the series, it had amazing creativity and variety leaving me wondering what could come next week, while it falls just short of making a 9 rating for me i had a blast and cannot wait until more episodes come.

5/5 for the episode
8/10 for the series

That was a nice episode. Everything melded together really well. The heavily autotuned Insert song really contributed well to the atmosphere. Plus, QT got some really nice character development.

At the same tome, Meow spending a whole day falling for 2D girls was pretty hilarious.

5/5 episode.

Just a weird time to stop the series for a broadcasting season.

In my opinion, though, the best episodes of the series definitely were episode 5 (the one with Adelie) and the one with Meow's family (I forgot the episode number).

Season 1 score: 9/10
A flawed but highly enjoyable series.

This was a wonderful episode! It was deep, and moving, and filled with emotions! A great way to cap off the series until the second season airs. Plus, it was written by Dai Sato so naturally the emotion it contained makes sense.

Space Dandy is not what I would typically watch, but I do really like it. It's entertaining, even if its not always funny. I certainly enjoy watching it, and I definitely plan on watching season 2!

There were some episodes that were kind of a miss, but there were lots of hits as well. So I give it an 8/10!

The soundtrack was pretty great throughout the episode, and I liked how they explored QT as a character a bit more.

That second half was pretty intense, too. Great way to end this first season.

I'm curious why they changed the name of Dr. Gel's experiment from the Big Dipper (sub) to what ever it was in the dub?

Great episode subbed and dubbed regardless.

Edit: I forgot to mention this, but I was happily surprised when they subbed the insert song, although now I'm curious about why the never subbed the opening?

Brave Little Toaster. Iron Giant. I couldn't help being reminded of these two movies during this episode.

I always see QT as a girl so this was basically yuri in my eyes .-. But anyway, really looking forward to seeing what they do in the 2nd season, especially with the little bits they've revealed in the latter episodes.

See you later Space Dandy! Or next week because I'll totally be watching the reruns.....

I guess I'm the odd one here since I didn't really enjoy the series much. The visuals were great though and Ian Sinclair was the perfect casting choice. Most of the episodes were pretty meh and honestly the series as a whole wasn't anything special imo. Not sure if I'll be back for S2

Lol I thought my Brave Little Toaster comparison was original until I just logged on to post.

Btw I also look at QT as a girl because I haven't watched the dub until today. The original voice acting is even more fem. Oh well, QT is so cute, it broke my heart to see him heartbroken :/

What an end! Similar to Dandy's and Meow's episode, I loved this so much!

8/10 it was an enjoyable ride.

I can't help but feel that the chorus of Viva Namida fits so well with the end of this season, it represents my feelings perfectly.

Viva namida, just shed them, baby
They're not wasted
Can't stop, I love you like this
Namida, namida, that's right

Can you give those tears to me
When you fall, get right back up again
Let's go together! Tell me "This is great" again
Namida, namida, goodbye!

Goodbye indeed, Space Dandy, I will return for sure for the second season.

Best episode yet. The episode with the girl who can switch people's bodies was a close 2nd though. This was really emotional and a captivating episode. Some of the Space Dandy episodes just are flat out uninteresting in my opinion. Most of them are good, but there have been a few where I just flat out don't care about what's going on. But this was a great ending to the first season, and shows that Watanabe shines when he gives us something more serious.
