Use this post to nominate 1 anime song. Read the rules over on the main page and don't forget to upload your track someplace. All nominations will be closed after 10 tracks are nominated or until next Sunday rolls around. After that, we'll proceed to a voting phase. Feel free to discuss your nomination or other people's picks in this thread. Note: Per the chatbox (or whatever you call it), I've declared that the 1 series per week restriction has been lifted. Lelangir did helpfully post a list of all the shows that she's composed music for, so try to maintain at least some semblance of diversity. As a general guideline, I think 4 tracks from a single series is probably pushing it. Theme: Yoko Kanno Yes, I do have to emphasize that I mean Yoko Kanno. Otherwise, people might be tempted to nominate a Yuugo Kanno track and I might be forced to accept it since I was silly and didn't clarify :3 Anime Instrumentality: Anime Music Blog Latest reviews: Aoi Hana Soundtrack | NEEDLESS Soundtrack Participate in the Anime Song of the Week Contest |

I have a question. The Yoko Kanno piece i wouldn't mind nominating is from an album called X Clamp File, which is by various artists, focusing on themes for characters from the X anime and manga, though the pieces where never actually used in the anime. Am i alright nominating one, or would you rather me choose something that was used in a series? |

Name:Tentai Kansoku Anime: Darker than BLACK Link: http://www.imeem.com/people/wMPUvW/music/C9RCAbGn/kanno-youko-tentai-kansoku/ I haven't even finished the first episode yet (but I will, and then some), but this short piece drew me in and left me wanting more. Mysterious, wistful, and entrancing, in my opinion. Does anyone know if she actually continues on this short theme? |

I believe it has to be in a piece in the anime, no matter how little or what anime it was. as to this week's nomination, i'm simply torn. TORN. Can I just nominate Space Bio Charge? @Shiroth As omo said, has to be within the context of an anime. @omo Geez, there's a jazz pianist with the same name? Shows what I know :p Anime Instrumentality: Anime Music Blog Latest reviews: Aoi Hana Soundtrack | NEEDLESS Soundtrack Participate in the Anime Song of the Week Contest |

Alrighty, that's fine by me. That's why i asked in the first place. But yeah hard decision. Gonna need a good think about this, though probably will be a piece from Turn A Gundam, or Escaflowne. But then there's Macross Plus. Decisions, decisions. |

Title: The Vision of Escaflowne Anime: Vision of Escaflowne Link: http://sharebee.com/404fb1e3 May as well go with one of my favorite pieces. I was gonna choose 'Pitiful Sochie' from the third Turn A Gundam soundtrack, though to be truthful this here is my favorite Yoko Kanno piece. What an epic piece, what an epic journey. Make sure you listen to it all, because the last minute is fantastic. For anyone who's wondering, here are the two pieces from X Clamp file composed by Yoko Kanno that i was going to choose between. Every Yoko Kanno fan should give them a listen to. Karen: http://sharebee.com/a72573d6 Subaru: http://sharebee.com/780e8921 |

FUCK this is hard. I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to choose based on! Do I want one just for the fact that it's underrated? I could have gone that path and probably nominated Kakusei or something, but fuck it. I'm just picking my favorite. Title: Call Me, Call Me Anime: Cowboy Bebop Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPbBhvv6GI8 And by all means, watch it in context: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uc4A0vXxHUM Of all of Kanno's masterfully written vocal songs, this is easily my favorite, with the glorious use of the percussion, strings, and epic bassline to create a truly moving and energetic ballad of unforgettable proportions. Steve Conte's voice is fucking incredible too, but man look at the glorious canvas it had to draw on! Fucking love the violins, especially in the build-up part and when Steve's voice cracks back in with just the strings playing. Gorgeous. Plus I can sing this song really damn well. |

I thought we were supposed to choose our favorites. That's what seems most likely. |

I might end up doing that...but I don't think I even have a clear favorite that fits the format of the song-of-the-week. I mean I interface with kanno's music in the form of soundtrack/era/projects, not by single tracks. It got kind of like that at some points in time (Cream PUF, the Bebop singles, Maaya Sakamoto) but it never really was like that. I'll think about it some more :o But I wil try tol nominate something that avoid similarities with already-nominated-pieces as much as I can. |

Hmmm, was gonna nominate Words we couldn't say from Cowboy Bebop, which is my favourite from Cowboy Bebop, but kinda pointless since there's Call me Call me. And most of my favourites are tracks that everyone knows, so I'm just going to be different for the sake of different and nominate a piano solo track. link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT2iKdPdPBk music: Rhapsody anime: Mind Game for the context: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBJibul630w Mindfuck indeed... |

I think all this week is going to do is teach me is how much I fail at Yoko Kanno. Half of what she's done is to series I've never seen, and the other half I mostly forgot the music or didn't especially care for it. All I have of hers is Turn-A. D: edit: PRE-EMPTIVE BLASPHEMER! ACCUSATION edit2: Okay the Macross vocal pieces count. But OTHER than that. Modified by OGT, 08-24-09, 7:42 PM |

I thought pretty hard and decided to go against just picking a track out of Space Bio Charge. I mean, you all have heard of it already right? Screw this. I can spend weeks trying to pick out a track, or just pick petals off a flower for much the same effect. But I think I'll pick something out of Brain Powered just because we already have a Turn-A selection (IMO her best) and it's really a crap shoot between her Wolf's Rain and Brain Powered stuff (IMO her second bests) and none of the Macross Plus stuff really fits this club's format (IMO her most creative) lesse... <omo> @dice 1d20 <Ke***> omo: 5 Run Spark Prism Run Spark. Song: Spark Anime: Brain Powered By: YOKO KANNO GET IT HERRURURUR: http://sharebee.com/3b211e96 [Nomination #5] Some other notes: 1. I think Kanno has composed enough to allow for a 1-series-per-week limit, but that might be pushing it as we all have to coordinate. 2. this is actually a good entry for next week... I fail hard at Yoko Kanno too ... =( But I'll vote this, simply because I've heard my brother play it hundreds of times and I liked it when it was played in the first episode Granted, Kanno fans would definitely know this so I apologize for lacking diversity Title: Run Rabbit Junk Anime: Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l13RCQNUyI4 |

I figure I'll just go with what I was thinking of when I saw this week's theme, which is: Title: Jyuukikaigaku [Serious Mechanics] Anime: Turn-A Gundam Link: here which may or may not be a good Yoko Kanno song but I love it nonetheless. But, then again, I have weird music taste sometimes. |

I fail on this one. Sigh... Since Darker than Black and Escaflowne are already mentioned, I chose this one instead. Song Title: Separated Anime Title: Wolf's Rain Link: http://www.imeem.com/geniebookworm/music/BQ8DwgmL/yoko-kanno-separated/ Modified by sherlock_marple, 08-25-09, 4:10 AM |
