My vote goes to Texhnolyze mainly because although the subject isn't as disturbing as the ones encountered in other anime, the atmosphere is incredible. Considering one of my favorite subject in anime is dystopias imho Texhnolyze is second only to the BLAME manga.

The execution is flawless and thus creates an almost unreal degree of immersion greatly amplifing the message.

I'll continue to preach Saikano as most disturbing/dramatic anime.
I had a breakdown after watching it.

further more, none of the other anime's in the list seem particulary disturbing,
save GiTS: Innocence and End of Evangelion.
I'll leave Monster and Narutaru out of it, since I haven't seen those yet...

End of Eva... I've not even seen it in ages, and I still remember it as a mindf*ck...

Most definitely the most disturbing, whilst still being true to human nature, and the growth of a teenager.

I haven't seen all that many of the ones on the list so i refuse to vote. However so far the most disturbing one was End of Evangelion, though i really liked serial experiments lain aswell... Just that SEL is not disturbing in any way to me for some reason, part of it seemed to blend in to my teenage angst thoughts quite well... The whole writing your ego into the wired and stuff :)

I did not watched all titles at poll, but I've seen many of them. For me, Serial Experiments Lain will always be the 2nd one, when you think about philosophy, psychology, and theme related. The very 1st one is still Boogiepop Phantom, that was left out of the poll. So, my vote goes to S.E.L.

I never felt when watching or reviewing an anime that is was disturbing. I watched Higurashi: I think it's a great anime. I also watched Elfen Lied: Okay, its disturbing that they completely denied a species of life, but it didn't really touch me. The same is with Saikano. I never thougt of an anime series as disturbing.

There's only one anime that 'touched' me: Angel Beats. The story of Iwasawa.

Haha, Higurashi for sure (at least-that's me.) The crimes are so...cringeworthy.
