Oh god, this fucking episode.

This was hilarious. I love Chiyo's dad. The parts with him were kind of... well, umm... disturbing. But still amazing.

She has manzai comedy on the brain, I think. I guess "Nandeyanen" is a thing tsukkomi typically say when the boke is being baka.

I wonder what Yomi dreamed, but I guess it wasn't important.

Can someone please explain to me, WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST SAW?! I usually love the light-hearted tone of this show, however this episode made no sense whatsoever.

What you saw was a series of first dreams of the new year, which are significant in Japanese culture.

Osaka dreams that Chiyo can use her pigtails to fly. She borrows from a daydream of hers that they are also detachable, and adds to it that they're sentient, capable of speech, controlling Chiyo, and if removed incorrectly, kill their wearer. What this means to her, I couldn't say; she definitely has an interest in those pigtails. (There's a strip in the manga where she actually does let her curiosity get the better of her, and lifts one pigtail, presumably to see if the other will move; it doesn't.)

In the waking world, Tomo is often challenging people to things when she has no hope of overcoming them; in her dreams, she's superior to them in their fields (Chiyo's academic prowess and Sakaki's athleticism) and dreams up situations where she bests them.

Sakaki wants a cat, so she dreams up a situation in which she has one... odd though it may be. And yet, her subconscious knows it cannot last: the cat reveals himself to be the father of the person she knows who has the quality she most desires for herself, yet who wants to be like her. The cat then flies off. Another sequence begins with Chiyo and the cat at home, but it ends with the three luckiest things to see in a New Year's dream: a hawk, an eggplant, and Mount Fuji.

Kaori is infatuated with Sakaki, so she dreams up a situation where Sakaki is her rescuer on a white horse when she encounters a group of delinquents, played by some of our main characters. One might wonder if she subconsciously sees them as obstacles, even though she considers them friends in reality, since Sakaki hangs around them more often. And Chiyo is their boss, and perhaps her "chief" obstacle, since Sakaki's around her most often.

Feel free to take the above with a grain of salt; I've never studied dream analysis, so I could be all wet with it.

Really cool episode. I don't know why so many are surprised it's weird considering it was about dreams.

I didn't like this one. This is the worst in the series so far, it just failed to really...do anything.
If you use English and Japanese in the same sentence, I hate you.

Those dreams, really interesting indeed
I supposed that's what you should be dreaming in your first dream after new year? xD
