I don't think I'm allowed to post direct links here, but the .ass file is available on tokyo tosho as of just a little bit ago and is timed to the korean hardsub raw.

dl the raw, dl the .ass, and load the subtitle from Media player classic. Big ugly font, but it's meant to obscure the korean.

bon appetit!

Well, in the .ass file it's written that some kind of 'aegisub' group did it, but their homepage doesn't seem to be working.

The only links you can't post are porn sites links and links that lead directly to a download of any nature.

Aegisub is the name of a subtitle-creating software program, not the name of a group.

There is a sub out by a one-man group going by the name of "719x", make sure you get the v2 release as it corrects a audio/video sync issue that was in the raw according to him.

As for the person asking for BluRay earlier, 719x is planning to resub this when the BluRay raws appear, but they are not expecting them for six months. Perhaps the DVD and BluRay are not being released at the same time.

@nx6: isn't 719x using the -only- raw, with korean hardsubs? here someone verified it. v1 and v2 use the same file, I suppose.

@vucubcaquix (below): i'd say, and i haven't seen it, it's a screener. maybe telesync.

I'm pretty curious as to how that raw was acquired to begin with... I've seen about 20 minutes of the movie and it's taking all of my willpower to not finish it and wait for something clearer.

Watched it last night by 719x. v2 seems to still have an audio/video sync issue, and its made even worse by the subtitles not having the proper timing after a certain point.

It was just barely bearable, so if you can put your agonizing OCD aside for a moment to watch subtitles over subtitles with improper timing, you'll come to enjoy a good movie =]

Don't watch that release.

The subs are awful and go off time about halfway through. Take it from an impatient man who now wishes he decided to be patient instead

I fixed the subtitle timing by hitting x a few times (using Mplayer). Worked like a charm. There's also one line at the end that hangs for about 30 seconds longer than it should, but it does go away.

That's because the subtitles were timed to the original raw. So after 719x fixed the audio/video sync issue (or tried to at least) the subs were now off.

Someone on AnimeTake altered the script timing to account for this. You can find a "v3" ASS file there. I'm going to get it now after what you said even though I have the fully muxxed "v2" version downloaded now. And if it's better I'll just remux it myself with the "v3" script.

Any news about the V3 remix?

And any guarantee it wont be as "fucked up" (sorry for being impolite its just the truth) as the previous versions? First version was absolutely perfect for the first 35 mins. Then it went TERRIBLY off balance. V2 is just a little better but theres still issues with the timing. So i dropped the movie at 35 mins and im waiting for decent audio. Hope theres gonna be a V3 soon fixxing all mistakes

I don't think there is honestly. This release is LOLable anyway since it's got those giant oversized subs trying to cover the Korean subs on the "raw".

I'd say, use the external "v3" script that Dorry123 posted on AnimeTake, with the v2 release of 719x's fansub. If you have them in the same directory and are using ZoomPlayer they will override the built-in V2 subs automatically I believe. You can always edjust the timing when they drift off after that 35 minutes with the controls on your video player as well.

If you like the movie that much you can get a better copy when the BluRay release comes out in six months or buy it if it gets licensed in your country.

The reason that the subs and audio are off is because there is some small video and audio corruption in the original AVI RAW at about the 30 minute mark. When it is transcoded into a new format, it will cause the de-sync of the audio and video.

What I did to solve this is to find one of the original RAWs (in this case, "[アニメ] 映画「サマーウォーズ」細田守監督 2009 DVDRip - SUMMER WARS.avi"), and get the v1 of the script. I then ran the video, and opened the ASS file manually. This fixed both the audio/video issues, and the subtitles are correctly timed.

I also used the latest version of VLC, but any video player that opens the ASS subtitle files will do.

This is an awesome movie, so I hope this helps others enjoy it as much as I did.

How large is that original raw? I might get it and do the same since then I could use the script unstyled and see the subs at a halfway normal size since they wont be covering the Korean ones anymore.

Damn. I'm almost tempted to do my own encode now with the English script. But if it's flawed then I'll have the audio/video go off sync for me, too.

Okay, I second what Touka and Cheeze-it have said. Download the raw and V1 subs. Apart from the first battle, there are no more errors, and the error just lasts less than 1 minute.
Cheers~

After seeing The Girl Who Leapt Through Time a couple of years ago I was excited to see the director's next work.

Let's say I can figure out all raw ass sub business, is it worth it? I mean how's the video/audio quality? And if the subs are sync'ed correctly, is it a good translation? I've never heard of this 719x group.

On Nyaa, I saw some subs from the previous versions that had been synced for the [Zero-Raw] version.

I thought they were pretty decent; not stylized at all, and the timing was good.

How is Solstice's work? The DDL is on Lolipower right now. I also seems Tomodatchi has done a joint for this with someone.

I still have the 719 release and I never got around to watching it. Guess I can toss it now as I'd rath not have the Korean hardsub/supersize softsub business.

Yeah, so I see three choices right now.

Zero-Raws-QTS
Solstice
Tomodachi-UTW

I have the Zero-Raws-QTS version because it was basically the first decent HQ release, but I'm guessing that these actual groups probably released in even higher quality.

So basically, who's compared all three versions, and which is the best?

Hey, hope someone can help me... Got a blueray version without subs, can anyone direct me to a file? Found one within a torrent, but comments say it is delayed by some seconds and I'm lazy to fix it.

Thanks.

With this release though i have to say i prefer the UTW-TMD. Frostii tends to drop the F word alot lately and does some americanizations.
