Nothing about the movies?

Funimation says idk.
They have to license the movies but I guess they can wait and see how well the show sells before they do.

BD where?

Hopefully Steve Blum voices all the characters in both anime. Either that, or he and Liam O'brien tag team it.

both good animes, eden would be a good purchase on dvd. And it's coming sooner than most licensed anime from japan's air date it seems.

Neither of them will be in the dub unless Funimation decides that they want to fly them over to do voice work. It will probably be the usual voice actors you see in Funimation's dubs.

but... Casshern? :/ not a bright move imo...

Why?

There's already about half of the people who posted in this thread who said they'll buy it, and like i've said a few times already, the Casshern franchise is huge around the world, especially in the US. It'll sell for sure.

It does urk me that people keep thinking it's a wrong move on Funi's part to license it. & i ask why? & actually reason please, not "oh the show's to dark and it won't sell", because that's rubbish.

I haven't seen Casshern myself, but its following may not be as big as other series. Even shows with big fanbases do not always do well in sales.

However, Casshern seems like a series (based on the summary I read),that could air on a channel like Adult Swim or SciFi(or SyFy) on Mondays. That would probably add to a boost in DVD sales if it does well on either channel. Though again I'm not familiar with the series so I'm not sure if getting a TV deal for it would do any good.

Honestly though, almost every thread concerning Funimation's licenses have comments saying that Funimation made a bad move and are wasting their money. Yet, they seem to be doing OK in comparison to other licensing companies. Probably due to the fact that they have licenses to some big titles including some of the titles they've gained from Geneon and ADV.

Considering you have seen stuff like FLCL, Gankutsuou and Baccano! - Casshern Sins is a must to you then :P

Its too deep for TV. It would be the same as showing Gantz and Texhnolyze in Saturday Morning Cartoons slot in USA...

This time they got their moves right. Casshern IS well known in the west and this announcement, combined with newest Tatsunoko vs. Capcom game getting a release in NA equals one of the best market opportunities for FUNi.

ok...production i.g. i'm starting to lose respect for them...they announced they were bringing Higashi no Eden with the trailer over at AX and they sold the rights to Funimation here in America? Gah! and then they announce Abunai Girls (terrible) which they say has no budget to produce to begin with? the show is terrible and shouldn't be released. And they said that Oblivion looks Studio Ghibli-ish? Talking about another company at your own press conference is not good. That's just like insulting yourself and giving yourself a slap in the face. Oh well...I guess we'll have to go to the other guys. -_- I just hope they keep Sengoku Basara. There wasn't anything else big that I remember.

Fuck yeah, Higashi no Eden!

And Casshern kind seems like something Funi'd license, possibly to sell as an action series on Adult Swim. It might be a good fit in their line-up, when one of the current series ends (if the anime chunk isn't fridged before then, with all of it airing so late :\ ).

I am in no way trying to be rude, but what are you talking about? Production I.G. has sold the license of Eden of the East to Funimation so they can release DVDs (and Bluray is a good possibility) in the R1 region. This a completely common practice, so I'm not sure why your so indignant about it. It isn't the first time a US company has licensed one of their titles for US release (Media Blasters has Moribito, Bandai has Ghost in the Shell for example). Oh and yes, Funimation announced at AX that they also have the license for Sengoku Basara. =)

As for myself I'm extremely happy with this announcement. Eden of the East in an absolute instant buy with me, regardless of whether or not they manage to use the OP song or not (even though I would be disappointed). Casshern Sins might be a buy from me, it will depend on my finances at the time.

While I don't understand half of your post...what's wrong with Production I.G. allowing Funimation to license and release the series in the US? It's not like they have ever distributed most of their series themselves outside of Japan. I'm not even sure they are big enough to start a branch in the US to distribute their own series.

As far as Oblivion goes...who cares if they are talking about another company at their press conference? Saying that their own movie is sort of Studio Ghibli-ish isn't a bad thing...so I find it hard to understand how you could lose respect over a company for that. If that's the way that they want to describe the look of their film then that's fine....gives everyone somewhat of an idea what it will be like. I really can't see how they are hurting themselves by saying that.

Also, Funimation also has the license to Sengoku Basara. It may not have been announce on here but it was something that was announced at the beginning of July.

I would definetly buy Higashi no Eden, but Casshern Sins, not so much >_>

Funi better be careful on how many anime they acquire, I hate to say it but I have a bad feeling abou the future x(

Funimation doesn't seem to be in any trouble at the moment. As far as I know, they've been having more good news then bad news. I think one of the big reasons that Funimation can take on so many titles is because they have licenses to a lot of series that are big sellers. FMA, DBZ, Fruits Basket, and many more probably bring them in a lot of money. There's also the additional titles that they acquired from Geneon and ADV. I think they also expanded their channel into more areas recently so with that, they must be doing OK.

The move to release more of their series in the form of boxsets also probably helped them out a bit where as if they where still releasing all of their series as $20-25 single releases with 4-5 episodes then I think they wouldn't be doing as well.

Well, in order for you MAL users to best understand this let me try to put this in simplest terms, Casshern would probably do better in the U.S / North America than Higashi no Eden. Casshern has been around for awhile and as Shiroth said exposure in the North American release of Capcom vs. Tatsunoko will only do him good. Think Marth from fire emblem he garnered popularity in North America from the Smash bros series years before exposure of his game on an English Speaking audience. Higashi no Eden however, does not have that luxury or marketability and will probably only do well amongst the hardcore of otaku.

Um...I might buy them. I just hope they don't license the movies until subs are out.
