Oh god, this movie totally mindfucked me. Story confused me as hell in the middle (especially when Mima was waking up again and again, I was like "WTF?" - well, I'm not sure I perfectly understood this part though), I thank people who picked up some pieces of this puzzle, that's clearer now. Perfect Blue truly deserves at least 8/10. |

Fuahhh.. definitely confusing. I agree with most people that it was Rumi who started the site, acting as Mima's 'real' self and emailing Me-mania. I'm not sure whether or not he killed the photographer and script writer though. I think there's a case for him doing it, but also a case for Rumi doing it. I'm more leaning to the idea that Rumi did though. Without a doubt though I can say Mima was suffering from some pretty crazy psychotic episodes. Maybe severe schizophrenia? I think the role she was playing, plus general stress about everything caused her to suffer pretty nasty visual and auditory delusions. Hmm.. actually to be honest I think it's better not to analyse the psychological stuff too deeply. I'm a psych student so I can't really help it - but yeah. Better not to I think. There's little things here and there that don't match up. All in all - 9/10 from me. |

I started to watch Black Swan immediately after this ended, to compare the two. It only took me a second to realize what a horrible idea that was, unless I was feeling particularly suicidal today. It got really... really confusing toward the end, but I have to say, this movie terrified me and reminded me why I nearly punched someone's nose in for calling me an otaku. That word just brings up images of guys like Mi-Mania. >.> I can't really think of the last time a movie scared me, but this one totally got to me. I sat there with my best D: face on, shaking and covering my eyes occasionally. Darn you Satoshi Kon, for being so amazing and dying too soon. Even though this isn't on my list of feel good movies, I'll definitely be watching it again. |

I agree this movie is mind blowing but I just cant justify that much screen time devoted to rape. I was definitely not prepared for that. |

This was my first time watching a Satoshi Kon anime, and I really regret not watching it sooner. The story was twisting and confusing at times, but I was on the edge of my seat almost the entire time. After this, I think I will watch Paranoia Agent and Paprika. 8/10 |

How could Rumi have been the Mima in the tu-tu? Her reflexes aren't human... Plato is my friend — Aristotle is my friend — but my greatest friend is truth |

Imaginary-Idol-Mima may have insane reflexes but it doesn't reflect the actual actions of Rumi. At least I don't think so... |

GREAT movie, but one question, and this bothered me most throughout the movie- The 'rape scene'... So, is it implying that, like a porno, the actors are actually having sex? So in a sense, Mima actually was kinda raped? When they talked about it I figured it really was just going to be the way they film sex in movies that are not porn, but it really looked like he was... Um.. well... You know. |

Brilliant movie. Sorry for the comparison, but this is much better than Paprika. It actually wrapped things up. |

Still confused about things.. is it real mima get raped? I mean mima's emotion & expression that was so real. and the scene where the photographer rape & take nude photo of mima? or these thing just mere delusion of mima? Gonna rewatch this. |

Great movie, really enjoyed it. Had me guessing the whole time. The one scene where the Actress playing a Detective steps out talking about Mima's character having split personalities had me going there for a bit. My mind was absolutely reeling. After that though, everything started falling into place neatly and wrapped up well. The majority of it makes sense, it's just the finer points that get a little hazy which I think is the point. As kanon-chan said earlier: "he wanted the viewers to come up their own conclusions instead of having it done for them" Kon wanted to leave a few things confusing for people to interpret. I believe he is referring to specifics like who killed who. I don't think the real Mima killed anyone. I'm confident that Rumi killed the Photographer. The others not so sure on. And we aren't supposed to know specifically. One of the things I don't think enough people here are understanding is the significance of the website 'Mima's Room' Mima became obsessed about it. Her delusions didn't start until she started reading the blog. It was written from the perspective of the Pop-Idol Mima by Rumi. The real Mima became obsessed about it, reading everything. With her stress, guilt, and all other things going on she began to confuse her reality with Rumi's version, the Pop-Idol Mima. (Think "The Machinist") If anyone needs help understanding more, PM me and I'd be happy to answer the questions as best I can. All in all, I really enjoyed this movie. 9/10 I watched my first Kon film a few weeks ago with Paprika which I fell in love with. I watched Paranoia Agent after that which was really good but not as good as the two films. I liked Paprika a little more than this mostly because of the musical score by Susumu Hirasawa. Time to check out some other Kon films. |
