Nice retreat on your part, and you're the one who went off the deep end with a four paragraph essay from a two sentence and one paragraph quick comment. But whatever. |

Partly my fault for humouring you that the thread's gone off topic, so I'll just ignore your hysterical keyboard bashing now. |

@ Sukuko and Cihan: Your post was more detailed (seriously 4 paragraphs?) and (didn't like your last paragraph) so I just aimed my previous post at just you sorry. Either way both of you shouldn't be comparing these directors' movies as they are different genres altogether. Hollywood is running out of ideas and this shows it. It's nice that they are showing interest in other countries' media anyways. Now prediction time: I say either Rurouni Kenshin or Blood for the next adaptation. |

Blood (or shitty Blood+) probably more likely considering Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer's protege's involvement in that. Kenshin's too Japanese. Unless Tom Cruise is allowed in it as an American who does all the hard work while Kenshin stands on the sidelines with an injured arm or something. ('cause you know, we need a caucasian in the story so we can relate to those weird foreigners!) Here's another question about Bebop: do they follow the jist of the series' ending? I would talk spoilers but MAL has this annoying habit of having threads for post-release type discussion but people get 'spoiled' anyway. Can we talk spoilers guys? It's been a decade since its been out and anybody who hasnt seen Bebop has no reason to be in here anyway. |

But, I understand, and I would abhore the bringing in of Tom Cruise, or the like! XD Still... Oh... That made my day. =3 I'm just dandy with the spoilers. Daryl spoiled me long ago!! (Curse, you!) I'm half-way through the series... I can live. Meh. I don't think I could bring anything special to the table, but maybe you all can with the spoiler warning removed. |

The thing is though, even the Japanese suck a lot of the time at adapting manga to live action. At this point, all I care about is who's directing, writing and producing, doesnt matter where they're from anymore. Although if a story is set in Japan, then I'd like it kept that way and not have all the Asians magically replaced. |

I mean, really? Did they provide new unique twists on the source material? Not really, they just Americanized it, and its depressing, insulting and just creepy hegemonious hijinks. :( I cant think of any actor to play Spike. (oO) If I was directing and felt like being daring, I'd cast Asano Tadanobu ... |

Kenshin TV/manga is too silly for it to be made into a film.Maybe the OVA, but the TV? no way. Of course they could do it but so many things would be changed/cut, they might as well make an original Samurai movie. I can't think of any actors that could successfully play the bebop crew.I mean Ed? hahaha yeah right. |

O.o Wow... this is shocking... Well~ My opinion will have to wait till I actually see the final project~ Though Hopefully it won't end up like another Eva live action thats been in the air for like the last 5 yearsXD If they touch Rurouni Kenshin I will personally go apeshit. Bebop is one thing, but you don't fuck with Kenshin.. You just don't. Well said my friend^.^ I would only accept if it was perfect an every way which is physically impossible~ So if they value their lives the better not touchXD I was thinking Berserk would make a good live action movie thoughO.o Not that they lazy guy has finished the series yet though lol... |

Hopefully, they choose some less famous actors that will actually play their role instead of slur their speech together just to get another pay check. They also better sound like Spike and everyone else. Since he directed the Matrix it should be pretty decent, but then again our American Movie Industry has really fallen on hard times. I havent seen a decent movie in a loooong time. |

He didnt. We should make this clear: the guy the article is quoting is just an executive producer, he's not going to be making the creative decisions on this movie, so at the moment we dont really have much to go on when we're judging this project, nothing but the fact that it's going to be Americanized. |

All the money in my wallet bets that this will fail. I've seen this same scenario before, except with videogames and the movie industry - it'll be a watered down american blockbuster, compensating quality with special effects. |

Oh dear. AICN said: a good friend inside the industry who is a very reliable source wrote in to tell me that the film is being fast tracked inside the studio and will most likely be out by 2010. He also revealed that Keanu Reeves has been attached as the lead character Spike for over eight months now and is still set for the role. Unfortunately there isn't a writer or director attached yet, but with some new forward momentum coming from last week's announcement, I don't think it will take too long. I like Keanu, I really do, but only in moderation. Having him anywhere near this adaptation is giving me flashbacks of Johnny Mnemonic for some reason. This is gonna be a glorious Mario Brothers level trainwreck that wont do anime DVD companies any favours. They want the masses to like anime! edit: of course this is very early days, so it still isnt a lost cause. Lots of cast and crew get rearranged in the early stages of a film production, so... (Nic Cage was seriously gonna be Superman for a while, lol) |

To be fair, a live action version of "Cowboy Bebop" actually MAKES SENSE. While it's the millionth Hollywood adaptation of a comic book/anime series/Japanese live action movie/manga, it has the potential to be both meaningful and interesting. Of course, I have serious doubt that any director could replicate what Shinichiro Watanabe did with the series and movie. Who are they going to hire as a director? If I were a producer, I would seriously consider giving Watanabe a shot at it. |

Mana said: Erwin Stoff, film producer of The Matrix & A Scanner Darkly, is developing a live-action version of the popular anime series Cowboy Bebop. In an interview Stoff stated “I’m really excited to be working on it, and it’s in the really early stages. We just signed it the other day.” . He also promised "A real degree of faithfulness" and added, “When I met with them in Japan, one of the first things that I brought up was the experience that we had on A Scanner Darkly, and how hard we worked to remain faithful to Philip K. Dick, and that was our big concern here.” The film is being developed for Fox. [Source: ANN] [Source 2: IFMagazine] I've saw "A Scanner Darkly" and i think if he follows the same quality that he showed on Scanner he willb e able to make an awesome movie, specially grabing the darker part of Cowboy Bebop. |

the_seventh_l said: If Keanu plays Spike, I'll weep. As will the whole world. Just, no. Do not want. Start weeping -.- Keanu Reeves to Play Spike Spiegel In Live Action 'Cowboy Bebop' Keanu Reeves, who stars in the box office-topping remake The Day the Earth Stood Still, talked about the progress that producer Erwin Stoff, who has worked exclusively with Reeves for the past two decades, has made on a live action remake of Shinichiro Watanabe and Keiko Nobumoto’s anime sensation Cowboy Bebop in an interview with MTV. Reeves told MTV that he was eager to play Cowboy Bebop protagonist and futuristic space cowboy, Spike Spiegel. “We’ve got the rights, we’ve got a writer, and he’s putting together a scene outline,” Reeves told MTV about the Cowboy Bebop project, which is set up at Fox. Cowboy Bebop is one of the most popular anime TV series ever broadcast in the U.S. By the middle of 2005, Bandai Entertainment had already sold over a million Cowboy Bebop DVDs, and the idiosyncratic series continues to get exposure on the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. Reeves explained to MTV why he loved Cowboy Bebop, “It’s got a Western quality, a Western/film noir aspect to it. It’s got so much style to it, and that’s part of its appeal—that kind of Old West, bordertown, low-tech science fiction aspect.” According to Reeves the live action film will focus on the origins of the Bebop team of bounty hunters and will incorporate the conclusion to the 26-episode anime and at least some of the episodic adventures explored in the series. Creating the right “look” for the live action movie is of paramount concern for Reeves, who told MTV, that he thought Cowboy Bebop would be “a production designer’s dream. I think you just need a good production designer.” Fans of the Cowboy Bebop anime would add that “you also need to get Yoko Kanno to create the music for the live action movie.” http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/13950.html *sigh* |
