Oh cool! Thank you. :D

I strongly agree with the comment you posted on the thread,
"CGDCT indeed doesn't have to be the prime theme in a series,
sometimes there are times where it's occurs occasionally which
can be pretty cool too."
One example of a genre where people who created a Wikipedia
page handled this issue very well is Yuri:
The way they did it, they made two lists of anime series: (I am
pulling out just a few examples from each list)
Yuri as a central element:
Maria-sama ga Miteru
Sweet Blue Flowers
Yuri as a secondary element:
Best Student Council
Doki Doki School Hours
High School Girls'
Sasami: Magical Girls Club
This is a great system. Some people may be offended by any
hint of Yuri. So the second list is extremely helpful to them.
The first list is wonderful for hardcore fans of Yuri who want to
make sure that they have seen every important Yuri series.
In the same way, there are certain series that are close to
100% CGDCT. At the same time, a lot of series have less
CGDCT, but it is still an extremely enjoyable element for those
people who like CGDCT. Also, I know there are some people
who despise CGDCT, in which case they would avoid any series
of more than 10% CGDCT, say.
In my case, I really don't like horror. I would not want to
watch any anime series with more than 1% horror. A famous
example is "School Days" (2007) which appeared to be a great
"harem" series about one stupid guy and a bunch of beautiful
girls. But in the final episode ... the TV stations refused to air it.
I decided to post this comment on your profile rather than on
the thread since I don't want the thread to drift away from
CGDCT into Yuri.

I agree with you that Yuru Yuri is great. If I were asked to compile a short list with
only the best CGDCT, Yuru Yuri would certainly be included. I really like Yuyushiki,
but I think that everybody, including the new director, would admit it is flawed. Early
on, people had described Non Non Biyori as a "Healing Anime" (Iyashikei). That was
based on the first episode. Now we know that the story has a lot more going on. So
we'll have to wait until the end until the experts on "Iyashikei" can tell us whether it
really was Iyashikei or not. If anything, I am seeing more and more in it which is
quite disturbing. It's not true that I dislike Kiniro Mosaic. In fact, I wrote my "Primer"
very carefully to avoid any judgement of any series as good or bad. I simply wanted
to list them all. I want to leave it to other people to compile a "10 Best" or "10 Worst"
CGDCT list. As for me, I only watched a few episodes of Kiniro Mosaic and then got
distracted and stopped. But it was enough for me to be 100% certain that Kiniro is
CGDCT, so I added it to the list. If you can point to a word or a phrase that makes
it look like I was saying that I dislike Kiniro, please tell me. I will remove it. As for
"Sakura Trick", I have seen quite a lot of discussion. There is a very, very, very long
thread here: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=614661
However, as far as I can tell, there is very little actual knowledge of what Sakura
Trick will contain. But it is certain that there is a lot of enthusiasm. The official
webpage in Japanese is here: http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/sakura/
They will broadcast the first episode on January 9th. Don't think that I am telling
you that Sakura Trick will be any good. But it is certainly of some historical
significance since it is the first primarily yuri anime series since late 2009. So a lot
of yuri fans will be watching closely. As you know, Yuru Yuri had a lot of yuri
elements, but it was played for laughs and nosebleeds only. There is a very good
discussion of the yuri anime genre here:
CGDCT forever! Nyanpasu~!

Maybe, maybe not. The only thing I'd really get it for is Ys and I'm not sure if I can justify it for just that. Wish they would port these things to PC.
Verdale | 11-29-13, 10:37 PM
Yeah, I definitely love the way she was drawn, looks great.
Haha, no way man. I can't afford a Vita right now, even at a discounted price and even if it means I'll have to be without Celceta.
Verdale | 11-29-13, 12:25 AM
Nice profile picture/signature. I'm really mad I don't have a Vita right now.

Right, Kitakubu is finished. As some other people have commented, Kitakubu is
aimed at a narrow niche. I love the series. But I can hardly expect that most people
are going to like something like that. In the first week, Volume 1 of the Blu-ray sold
739 and the DVD sold 187. These figures are from Amazon Stalker. I am not an
expert on judging these sales figures. To me, they look "poor" but not "crash and
burn". Certainly, 739 + 187 seems low enough for Season 2 to be out of reach.
The director of KKK is 佐藤光 (Hikaru Sato). Here is a list of the past stuff that he
has worked on, in Japanese, in case it is of any use to you:
It looks pretty diverse. Most recently, he worked on Bakuman 3, Shirokuma Cafe,
Bakuman 2 and Bakuman. But he was doing more junior jobs, as opposed to
being the director.
Yuru Yuri holds an extremely important position in the history of CGDCT in that it was
the founder of the sub-genre which combines CGDCT with a "Random School Club"
(RSCL). The iconic RSCL series would be Haruhi, but of course Haruhi was not
CGDCT since the boys were so important. And of course Yuru Yuri included Yuri as
a comic element. When combined with extremely high production values, Yuru Yuri
was a monster hit. They made 13 + 26 = 39 episodes. The Blu-ray and DVD
sales were very good, it seems to me.
Given the success of Yuru Yuri, I guess it was natural for other people to make
CGDCT+RSCL+YURI. So we saw Yuyushiki, Kitakubu and now "Tesabu". The Yuri
themes are weak but they are present if you look closely enough. In terms of a
business plan, I think that the producers of all of these shows realized that the
opportunity to make money was in coming out with cheap knockoffs of Yuru Yuri
rather than trying to come up with something else of the same caliber.
Thank you for mentioning Yuyushiki. I just found a YouTube playlist with all of the
episodes which made it easy to re-watch the whole series. Frankly, I never fell in
love with Yuyushiki. There was just too much Googling of random stuff and I
never felt affection for any of the characters. The producers seemed to be intent
on avoiding anything which required any artistic effort on their part. Volume 1 of
the Blu-ray sold 1333 in the first week and the DVD sold 160, these figures
coming from Amazon Stalker. Frankly, that is higher than I expected. The only
parts of Yuyushiki that I love are the OP and the backstory of how Yukari and
Yui met in childhood.
In terms of the present situation of CGDCT, we have Non Non Biyori, and I'll let
you decide what the sub-genre is. It can be called "Iyashikei" or "Healing anime".
It also has Yuri elements which are quite clear.
I know that Kiniro Mosaic was even more popular, but I never watched more than
a few episodes and never saw what was appealing about it.
In January 2014, "Sakura Trick" will come out, which might be YURI or
CGDCT+YURI or YURI+CGDCT. We will have to see. But Sakura Trick is widely
expected to be a very strong shift back towards a strong primary serious Yuri
theme. There has been no serious Yuri series since late 2009 when Aoi Hana and
Sasameki Koto both bombed. Yuru Yuri had a major Yuri element, but it was
played for laughs, never going beyond the nosebleed stage.

Who's that chick in your profile pic? lol that rhymed.. but seriously who is she?
okanagan | 11-27-13, 4:52 PM
Kitakubu only sold 926. But, as I was saying, there were eleven
CGDCT series produced in 2013. So there is a huge love for the
genre. I think that Kitakubu did a good job of serving a niche
market. In other words, I loved Kitakubu along with only a few
other people. If there was not a strong love for CGDCT as a whole,
an unforgettable special series like Kitakubu would never have
been made. The people who produced Kitakubu made some
intelligent decisions to make it possible to produce the series at
a limited cost. So they saved on inexperienced voice actresses.
But they never made any compromise that hurt the
entertainment value. I doubt that there will be a second season
of Kitakubu. But I am eager to see more series by the same
director. Kitakubu was his first anime series.

yeh. i probably will :)

I know right, I finally beat it just now but I screwed up because my final party was actually weaker than all the rest of the parties (or maybe the final boss was just too strong idk). Zane and Ries just got frozen all the time and I forgot to set Kevin's S Craft back to ... something Sphere >_> Rageeee. Should've swapper Olivier for Ren but I didn't realise I gave Ren a better arts setup until I used her party OTL
Refrain has 13 episode (not enough ;_; Masato's route was toned down a lot).
Masato's the best bro man (next to Kyousuke maybe but yeah).
The English patch removed the H-scenes, but I had the original version which didn't have them in the first place so... I downloaded the Perfect Edition but it doesn't have H too :P
I like hearing the NPCs talk when I shop D8 though some of them are annoying
Much much later. Planning to finish my endless backlog first
>_> Gonna have to wait for PA to ship it, it's already 26th here :c
Tearz | 11-25-13, 9:01 PM
Thanks again.the videos looked pretty good and good thing i have a psvita.
Tearz | 11-25-13, 3:11 PM
just wondering, what is the name of the girl on your profile pic and wuts the name of anime in your about you section. thanks in advance. :)
OLHearts | 11-23-13, 6:06 PM
I guessed as much xP Almost finished with the 3rd. Exam in two days so I gotta take a break but I'm already in the first part of the final dungeon OTL
I was also kind of disappointed by Refrain episode 8, but it couldn't be helped if they wanted to fit it in 24 minutes OTL Still, it was the part of the VN where it started getting good and made him my favorite character so I just had sky high expectations... And everyone is confused at this point since they don't know the secret yet xD
Got Totori Plus too, and if the English dub was more complete I'd have kept it because Japanese Totori sounds a bit annoying though I got used to her.
Celceta in a few days (same day as my exam LOL though no day 1 here anyway >_>), definitely can't wait @_@ Also will finally be able to start Zero soon.

Regarding Aria being CGDCT, I struggled with that issue. I made a point of
watching quite a number of the episodes. In the end, I ended up slightly
on the side of classifying it as CGDCT. You can see it in my list. In the way
that I define CGDCT, it is important to consider what the series is primarily
about. In the case of Aria, a lot of the story is about how those girls
become skilled gondoliers, and what kind of challenges they face. Also, there
was a lot of interaction with male characters. But there was also a lot of cute
girls doing cute things. It was about 51/49, as I saw it. You can see on my
list that I provided a footnote regarding Aria to explain my decision. As you
can see, it is not black and white.
I truly loved KKK. But most people didn't. Definitely the director made some
serious mistakes in the early episodes. They had a habit to post a summary
of next week's episode on their official webpage. So that gave me a full
week to "study" so that I would be ready. It turned out that I had to put in
a lot of effort in order to understand what was going on. Realistically, a lot
of fans got turned off by the necessity of thinking so hard. But the director
was doing a much better job towards the end. This was his first time to be
the director of a series. I predict he will do well in the future.
Yes, Non Non Biyori is generic. On the other hand, it getting a very warm
reception from fans. I find that it has a few twists that make it interesting
enough not to get bored. Let's see how Hotaru x Komari evolves. Also, it
turns out that Nattsun is a total badass.
I won't recommend Tesagure Bukatsumono to you, since it seems that hardly
anybody likes it. But for me it is my favorite anime series right now. A
special feature of "Tesabu" is that you can actually download the four
characters into your computer. Then you can install free software to make
them move around or dance or whatever. The software is extremely
powerful. As far as I know, there has been nothing like that in the past.
I worked through the procedure carefully, and posted detailed instructions
on the thread so that other people can try it.
CGDCT is just one genre, and I like many, many other genres. But I got
interested in CGDCT and found that there were few resources. So that
is how I got into the topic. I am by no means saying that I actually like
all of those series. Right now I am heavily into Kill la Kill and Outbreak
Company, but I tend to just sit back and enjoy them rather than posting
comments on the threads here.
okanagan | 11-22-13, 8:18 AM
Thanks for the greeting.
After Kitakubu finished, I got interested in Non Non Biyori,
but I have been watching Outbreak Company and Kill la Kill
as well. I am a huge fan of Tesagure Bukatsumono, but
very few people share my love for it. It is 100% 3DCG and
is CGDCT about a random high school club. It is quite a
technical advance in terms of the 3DCG. But not too many
people like it from an entertainment point of view. So far,
only the first three episodes have been subbed.
I also started a thread on the general topic of "Cute Girls
Doing Cute Things" anime series.
