Cool, I also noticed we have pretty high anime compatibility

IndependentSK | 12-20-12, 6:02 AM
are you a Radiohead fan?

Asphodelus | 10-06-12, 6:07 PM
Looks like I am not the only one to recognize "Maou".

Squidwardian | 09-15-12, 5:08 PM

JD-MD | 04-28-12, 4:51 PM
Ok so I now have the visual novel of F/S, why is it better than the anime?

Bryce-kun | 04-25-12, 5:32 PM
I really like your reviews. Very professional.

JD-MD | 04-18-12, 8:16 AM
Alright thanks.

JD-MD | 04-17-12, 2:04 PM
So its preferable that I watch F/S first? Would it make a difference if i didn't? Besides not learning the mechanics of the world which i can pick up through other means.

JD-MD | 04-17-12, 10:27 AM
Nice review on Fate/Zero, I'm pretty sure about watching it but i wanted to know one last thing - Playing the Fate/Stay game is out of the question so is it a good idea to watch it before i watch Zero?

kakukaku | 03-05-12, 12:27 AM
wa...you call it VN is that venture novel..?
we call it GALGAME or AVG..

maybe G is awsome,but I didn't get same exciting as 11eyes,which is a VN produced by 5pb..

I like the line of Miwa Tsubaki(椿姬) the best...it let me weep

kakukaku | 03-03-12, 7:07 PM
well, have you finished the G Senjou?

Inkwave | 02-27-12, 1:12 PM
Sigh, I suspected that you had rather blatantly plagiarized my review for Bakemonogatari and had written a scathing exposition on that, but I relented and deleted the comment. If your usage of my ideas and words were a mere coincidence, then please understand that I am actually a freelance movie/book reviewer for papers, where such an infringement would be a rather serious personal and legal issue, thus I am very anal when it comes to that. If you did indeed knowingly use my ideas and words as if they were your own, then, well, only you'd know. If latter is the case, though, I'd advise being more covert, and not doing strikingly obvious things like characterizing Araragi Koyomi as a bit of a "sociopath," which probably not very many people word it that way, so it's very suspicious.

Best

So sorry!

I've been pretty zonked out this past week from a combination of illness and sleep deprivation-- I didn't want to respond knowing I would be incoherent lol.

But yeah, no one should take my grading system seriously. My tastes are so malleable and uncertain that I'm too unreliable to have my opinion count for anything important lol. Personally, I think your rating is fair and I can agree that 7 (Good) is synonymous to being slightly above "Adequate," "Decent" and "Satisfactory."

If I didn't like an anime I won't rate it any higher than an 8 (Very Good) but I can't say it was bad or 1 (Unwatchable) either. I take alot of factors are into consideration-- the production quality, soundtrack, characters, plot, dialogue, creativity, etc.

Sometimes I really like an anime but I won't call it a "Masterpiece" because of annoying characters or major plot holes, waning interest or just plain confusion on my end. The latter happens alot-- I'm not stupid but I'll be the first to admit there are some things that get lost in translation to me (particularly if I'm watching subbed), or vital technicalities/mechanics/cultural references I fail to grasp. Appreciation and understanding of some artistic creativity (artsy-fartsy, as I like to call it), is another thing I fail at.

Bakemono is one example of everything I enjoy/appreciate yet sorely struggle to love in an anime. The majority of the dialogue, backdrop and plot went compleeetely over my head. The intricate wordplay, the layered and detailed scenery, complex characterization-- yeah, all of that was lost on me. Everything was creative, fresh, was sure as heck amazing quality and overwhelming (in a good way), but I just couldn't get anything. There was just a complete disconnect with me and what the directors/production wanted to present, and I didn't know what to feel or think after each episode. So my own shortcomings prevent me from getting the full effect of this and many other anime lol :'(

...aaaanyways sorry, that was so long-winded! I'll wrap it up here, to us hoping Yoko and Watanabe blow us away like they always do! This will be something new to look forward to; Kanno has been composing for mostly mecha these past few years, and Watanabe is more known for his action works. She'll be going back to those jazzy/bluesy roots for Apollon while this will be a whole different kind of action to expect from him. I'm excited ;)

@roriconfan Age is judged differently in Japan, 30 is regarded as being old, and bishonen's in their 20's? Servants are summoned in the appearance at their time of death, so its age appropriate, whereas regarding the Masters, I doubt you consider Kiritsugu and Kotomine as bishounen, nothing pretty about them, nor feminine features. I don't even consider that anyone looks at Waver that way, and Kayneth being too stuck up and made to look like a villian instead of a fan service target makes me think the only one character that could be considered as a bishounen in the series that was created would be Kariya, with all those worms crawling on his face, and Ryuunosuke, but he's merely a bystander to the main plot, not even knowing of the Grail War, I doubt anyone would be hyped for a series solely because of one side character, especially a mass murderer, and considering Tokiomi is beyond the definition of "shounen".
So I don't even think that your judgment of "most" is valid.

"Most are bishonens in their 20's and there are token lolis, so don't hide the whole truth XD."

The token lolis in question are Rin and Sakura, the original visual novel is set 10 years in the future, meaning their age is a matter of congruency with the sequel and despite most complaints about the Rin filler, I would question anyone watching such a plot driven anime with them in mind, let alone regard a girl being violated in a room full of worms, considering it to be a "token" of the plot, as if their presence is to fulfill some stereotypical role.

Considering there are three kings, one being claimed the King of Knights and two other knights among the servants, I find their "macho talking" to be appropriate as its a nuance that just in the Middle Ages, men sought to put reason to fighting by seeking a way to settle the issue of having to kill being seen as barbaric, by glorifying it and refining the act of combat by adding pompous speeches.

"It is not a great adaptation either because I was told by several fans of the novel that they are rushing through many secondary information that makes certain actions to feel stupid without them."

Agreed, I would also be on the side that the anime omits background details of character's actions, however, I can't think of a possible way to retify this issue given the time constaints of an anime. Most background details, if you have read the novels, detail a character's thought process during a fight. While animated, this can only be relayed to the audience by means of the character pausing to look at something, showing the character's facial expression, and a detailed look at the threat in terms of combat, which you can evidently see in Saber's fight with Berserker, in which she focuses her attention on the corrupted street pole while parrying the attack.

There will be many subtle details that are really too hard to relay in animation, so I recommend you make your own judgment by reading the novels. But I seriously think that opinions that this adapation doesn't live up to the original work are unfounded, and would stake this claim on the second half of Fate Zero's animation.

TLDR; Freaking hell, critics of masterpieces are everywhere, especially those who write off those entralled by them as being biased favorably towards the piece. Thanks for the great review of Fate Zero, Reckoner.

I saw your post, thanks for taking the time to answer. I think it's a pity that you guys aren't planning to include a VN-section but nonetheless understand your reasoning. Speaking of which:

There are a few websites out there that already go through the trouble of reviewing them

Could you point me to some of those? My searches on Google only got me a few sloppy blogs. I do know of vndb.org, though.

btw! i stumbled across this really awesome amv of bakemonogatari! i know alot of fans will probably enjoy it, considering it compiles the best and most epic of the entire cast. I'm still on the fence about bakemono but I still put this on repeat (really great quality).

ps. sorry if you've already seen this or you dont like katy perry. or this video period lol.

Aha, its fine! I enjoy life outside of the internet as well.

Congrats on your new position, I will definitely check your posts out on MAL and nihonreview! You're so well-spoken for someone so young!

As for my unusually low ratings, I kinda zipped through the anime/manga trying to compile my lists without much second thought. Since I'm new to MAL, everything is still a work in progress.

I'm guessing one look at my ratings, alot of people are thinking "aaaaaand, shes a bitch." lol

But I really AM a nice person! XD

And, yes! I saw the preview of Apollon! Very exciting, considering Watanabe/Kanno have always had brilliant collaborations. The OSTs, esp by Kanno, are all too vital in his animations. I'm a sucker for his character-driven plots too ;)

So anyways, thank you for the add in return! Whenever you're free, it would be nice to talk again
