Yo Richie. Finally got around to watching Madoka Magica. It's solid, both stylistically and plot-wise, but what's the point of a re-adapted movie? Should I be watching that instead of the TV series? I'm 9 episodes in (which is about where the second movie starts).
I might've spoiled too much for myself though. The twists and revelations were well done, but they weren't the "OH SHIT SUPER DRAMATIC SHOCKERS" that everyone made it out to be (unless there's more to come in the last 3 episodes). Also, why the heck did they make Madoka the main protagonist? She's way to weak and has virtually no impact on the plot, except for her frequent bawling. At this point, any characterization she receives will probably be overly drastic, and not very believable. Overall, it's good... But probably a bit overrated. |

Hypothetical normal arguments for not liking Magical Girl shows makes me feel uneasy: 1. Childish 2. Girlish 3. Anyone outside intended demographic is a weirdo, pedo 4. Shallow fluff, lacks depth of outstanding shows like GitS 5. Pink 6. Repetitive 7. Plot holes 8. Plot conveniences 9. Unrealistically fluffy and happy 10. Dumb villains 11. One-dimensional villains |
