Man, what a final episode. I think Penguindrum might be the first show that I genuinely want to rewatch at some point in time, given the massive amount of symbols used and the varying ways they can be interpreted. It's no wonder that most people write the show off as absurd and pretentious, because it is, but I guess somewhere along the line I accepted it for what it is and just enjoyed the show. Although, it might have been better off without the stereotypical stalker girl and the incestuous (before we realize they technically aren't brother/sister) suggestions through the first couple of episodes. I was also not really a fan of how they abruptly ended the search for the Takakura parents. I realize the Dad was dead in that shop, but they never say anything about the Mom. Also, why the hell did the Dad die and decay in an old abandoned shop? I mean, seriously. I was expecting them to tie in the parents a little better than that, besides just binding the two children to fate. Even by the end of it, its made clear that in splitting the "fruit of fate", both Kanba and Shoma had to take the punishment. I'm still unsure of how this all relates back to the Parents, if it all. If anything, it relates more so back to what happened between Momoka and Sanetoshi than the parents.

I had a question though, and you might not be able to answer given however long it has been since you watched the show. If Kanba was originally part of the Natsume family, and Himari was originally an orphan (correct me if I'm wrong here as it was never "clearly" stated). Where exactly was Shouma from? There are scenes that depict both Kanba and Shouma trapped in a box, and I wasn't quite sure what to make of that besides possibly being trapped within the confines of society or having to do with their souls existing prior to birth, but they never say, at least that I can recall, where Shouma was from. Was he the "only" child of the Takakura's, and Himari and Kanba were adopted? Or was he from someplace else?

Sry for the wall of text, but the show leaves a lot to be questioned I guess, even with a well-done finale. x-x

Lots of old people tell me the same (since I volunteer in some hospital with a bunch of old people). I think they're getting sentimental. I wonder if I'll become some old geezer cheering up some youngun about being a nice guy in the future.

Yeah, sounds like you loved it for the same reasons that I loved it. I think I gave it an 8 for the same reasons about the end too. Rushed, unexpected, pretentious about sums it up. Although I'm starting to not really care about something coming across as pretentious unless it's unbearable.

I'm ill and busy for the most part, but once I'm better and things have settled down I might start frequenting the forums and IRC again (seems I've been missing out on the Titan furore, what a shame). How are you? Your growing manga list pleases me by the way.

Hmm, Ristorante Paradiso. I'll admit I didn't like it at first, but once the character relations developed it became intriguing. It reminds me a bit of Eve no Jikan, what with the welcoming cafe/restarant environment + people and their problems combination. It's certainly not the middle-aged-men fetishism/reverse-harem I feared it might be.

What do you think so far of Aku no Hana? I haven't checked it out yet (apart from interesting rotoscoping stills), but the manga does seem like something I would read.

I have thought that maybe I should change my username subtly each month, eventually getting to an acceptable name

Sp maybe like: InfiniteRyvius -> InfiniteRufus -> FiniteRufus -> FinalRufus -> FinalR -> etc etc, but I fear I lack the imagination to make it work well.
