As the chart is in Japanese, I'll post the list here:1. My Neighbour Totoro 18.0% 2. Laputa: The Castle In The Sky 15.7% 3. Nausicaä Of the Valley of Wind 11.0% 4. Spirited Away 10.8% 5. Princess Mononoke 8.0% 6. Kiki's Delivery Service 6.2% 7. Whisper Of the Heart 5.6% 8. Howl's Moving Castle 4.8% 9. Ponyo On a Cliff By the Sea 3.2% 10./11. Porco Rosso 3.1% / The Cat Returns 3.1% 12. Pom Poko 1.0% 13. The Borrower Arrietty 0.9% 14. Gedo Senki 0.5% 15. Only Yesterday 0.4 % It's not a surprise that the top 10 is dominated by Miyazaki's movies, with just Whisper of the Heart (7th place) and Cat Returns (shared 10th place with Porco Rosso). It's really hard to say which of Miyazaki's movies is the best, but there are few things that surprised me. First of all: where is Grave of the Fireflies? Are they seriously saying that the Japanese thing The Cat Returns, Pom Poko and...Gedo Senki are better movies than Fireflies? I do not want to sound some kind of an elitist nor do I want to offend anyone, but that is a disgrace. How come it didn't even make it to the list? Also, how come Porco Rosso is only 10th/11th? My Neighbours the Yamadas not making it there is not a surprise, but I believe Ocean Waves/I Can Hear the Sea could've had potential to make it there. In my opinion it is better than Pom Poko or Gedo Senki. Though it is possible they didn't even include it in the poll as it was made for TV by the younger staff members. I'm also quite disappointed that Only Yesterday came last. :/ It's one of my favorite Ghibli films and definitely the 2nd best Ghibli movie by Takahata (I enjoy Only Yesterday more, but I can't help thinking that Grave Of the Fireflies is Takahata's best work). Also, it's nice to see Arriety on the list. We should also remember that even though some of the movies got such a low share of the votes (for example Porco Rosso 3.1%), it doesn't mean they're not good films. People just happen to love some movies more than the others. :D |

Let me quote what he said in an interview: "Though I don't know how it will be, I'd like to create a more positive boy (than Sho) in the next movie what we are preparing now. Though the leading character is a girl again."So nothing big yet. There will probably be a boy and a girl..."whoa"! :D |
