I wasn't sure what Asuka/Shinji until I read Retake, now they are my favorite anime couple and Retake is my favorite manga. You can find the All Ages version here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Doujinshi/RE-TAKE

I also don't get some people's love of a Rei/Shinji pairing. Not only is it incest but I think its probably the most BORING pairing ever. I can imagine that they would just sit and stare at eachother all day. Then Rei would do house chores and Shinji could cry because it reminds him of a mother. SNOOZE! On the other hand, Asuka actually makes Shinji do things besides whine. That is much more interesting to watch.

I didn't really like the Rebuild films because they changed the characters. I liked fiesty Asuka better than the new quiet one. Plus, I think an outgoing girl/shy boy pairing is really cute and Rebuild ruined that. Boo on that movie

I really loved the chemistry between Shinji and Asuka.

On the other hand, I don't know why some people ship Rei/Shinji. I do love Rei, but as a romantic pair, Shinji and she are horribly incompatible. I think both of them need someone extroverted with a positive outlook on life, thus why I ship Shinji/Asuka and Rei/Kaworu :3
