HIGURASHI IS OVERRATED!!

Information
I don't know, maybe I'm the only one who thinks the lame so called thriller anime Higurashi is one of the most overrated animes since Naruto. With it's crappy repetitive arcs, lousy art work, and lack of anything that could constitute a horror/thriller. This is a club for those that were disgruntled to find out this supposedly amazing anime turned out to be a slice of life in which people get killed, over and over and over again. I look forward to the angry mobs, get out the pitchforks and torches because you have some menacing to do!

Seems like the only people who comment in this club are fanatical Higurashi trolls.

my friends have been raving about this for a LONG time. I decided: today I'm giving it a try!

so I looked it up, watched. and... well. I think it's the most pretentious thing I've ever seen. I've been suffering through episode after episode of pretend-to-be scary anime like "at what point am I supposed to care?"

it throws you into an immediate chaotic fit of "TIME TO FIGURE OUT WHO ALL THESE PEOPLE ARE IN RAPID SUCCESSION! WE WILL NOT GIVE YOU TIME TO LEARN THE NAMES!" It took me until episode 4 to pay enough attention to figure out who Mion was. Yes.. to pay enough attention. I found the best scene in it was when Mion leans towards the door as its closing and tell Kei not to skip school. For a brief moment, I was relieved to see something interesting. But in the next moment, it was gone. And I found nothing at all that was interesting. He had a food fight with his Ohagi after finding a needle. Yeah, a needle in your food, not good. But I'd assumed one was bad when Rena said "I made one special". I went "aka, don't eat them, idiot."

They try far too hard to make it seem scary, make people seem suspicious. As opposed to a real thriller where they try to make everyone look innocent AND guilty, they just throw the guilt in your face in the first arc and go "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO THINK THEY'RE BAD, BTW".

I found the lack of character development, whether true or "facade" frustrating. There was nothing to latch onto. And as someone who can't stand bleach, I can honestly say, in comparison to this series, I love Bleach and I would like to have its babies. I would find solace in Sailor Moon, another series I am notorious for despising.

Don't get me wrong. I love thriller/horror/mystery. My favorite movies have always been horror/thriller, my favorite books have been those that keep you guessing, I'm a resident scholar on Sherlock Holmes (the adventures of, the author of, and everything about the character). Death Note made me very happy, as I found plenty to enjoy and plenty to latch onto. I like to find something deep in a story to cling to and to delve into. I like to take something and go into its meaning, into what it's trying to tell me. I like to be challenged and I like being able to take what I learn and apply it to my own life. I like to look at death note and assess what I feel on that subject. If I was given the note, would I follow my own teaching and bury it away somewhere? I firmly believe that people can do great good after great evil and that you can't stop evil, you can only try and do good with the evil you're given.
But if I was given the note.. if I could get rid of people who are truly terrible.. Osama Bin Laden.. someone who has killed so many because of a blind belief.. is that, A, justified... and B, would I care? would I throw my own beliefs out the window, would I damn myself to help? would I let that kind of power corrupt me? I like to think about that. Think about what I would do. And I think, though I would be tempted, I would not use the note.

But in Higurashi, as I have so far scene, I have no such lesson to apply. I have no mystery I want to unravel. there's not enough information for or against such a mystery. It thrusts information down your throat and tell you you MUST wonder you MUST watch! But all that forcing is losing the appeal. I'm lost in the "FORCE". I'm seeing nothing but a show that thinks too highly of itself. It tries too hard to make its own story work and tries too hard to be "creepy" and "mysterious". Kawaii school girls gaining cat eyes and monotone voices is too cheesy and overdone to be taken seriously. And in the cases where it would work, this isn't done well. Sometimes, you can work with the cheesy stuff and make it WORK. But this doesn't. And trust me, when I'm done watching (because I decided to make an AMV for a friend... fml.. decided to do it assuming I'd enjoy a mystery series), if there's anything good to be found, I will tell you. I find that when someone finds something very deep, I like to look for it. My brother made me enjoy a series I previously hated BECAUSE he found ONE thing in it that was fascinating to me. You had to look.. but it was very cool. and it made me question.

So if I find anything worthwhile, I'll share it and see what people think.

chances are though, you'll not hear from me again.

so for those saying "you're just all agreeing that it's crappy and not explaining!"... that's for you. I happen to be a well educated, well situated person who, as a child, would debate the existence of God and the idea of infinity. I'm very much a thinker and fully understand quantum physics and string-theory. If this show is so simple it's boring? there's no mystery to be found. and trust me. if there's any nugget of glistening hope in a series I WILL find it. I have found some series that are "silly" to have something quite valuable in them. So don't say "you just don't get it" or "some people aren't smart enough". Because this is so simple, it's painful. Any more simple and I'd be clawing my OWN throat open.

sorry to rant. I also apologize if it's a bit disorganized. It's currently 3 am.

I'm so happy to find people who're on the same page as I am. I've only heard good things about this series. I was starting to think it was just me.

it's simple... it's boringas hell. every episode is boring, the end. the characters are lciche/flat/retarded.

Oh holy crap, I'm seriously enjoying Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei. o_O First two series were just shit, but this is... something different, IMO.

I've read the comments, and... what?

The anti-higurashi side is mostly "I agree, series sux" without any arguments behind it. That's of course, somewhat forgivable in an anti-higurashi club, but you would think that someone who "hated this show with a passion" would care to elaborate. The only person here I see doing that is LilGunmanX, and even if I do not agree with him, I wish people could follow his example and start reflecting their hate.

The anti-club side is mostly just as bad, since you guys sound like butthurt Catholics who by mistake browsed Gurochan. Stop being so damn narrow-minded, this is exactly the reason hate-clubs gains additional motivation in keeping the club. Of very good reasons.

As for the series itself:
The games are really good. The anime could have been just as good, but Studio Deen screwed up in especially season 1. Regardless, it's fairly enjoyable for most people, so while I agree on it being overrated, it's not necessarily bad (me personally loving it is a totally different thing).

That's about it, I won't start any factual discussion about the series as I feel it wouldn't belong to this club nor most members. But if anyone wish, feel free to start a private discussion with me.
Over and out.

Btw, if you don't like Higurashi 'cause it ''turned'' into something with Fantasy, you're wrong. Higurashi was all about figuring if the cause of the murders was human or supernatural from the begin. ;P They say that in the first Visual Novel. :]
