Yes you can play online. However, you cannot play with anyone who doesen't have Balanced Brawl on wifi.

Well you can't necessarily say EVERYONE has a softmodded wii. Some people don't even know about hacks for brawl. I know a ton of people at my school who play brawl and have no idea what the homebrew channel is

Brawl is a great game and all but it still has alot of things that keep people from playing it competively. Such as Infintes, Chaingrabs, and releases. It's just plain retarded in my opinion that Sakurai didn't catch any of that and yet adds random tripping. Which is why i play a different version known as balanced brawl that removes all that gay crap and even increases overall character balance to make it even more fun. Spread the word it's really easy to setup. All you really need is an SD card.
