Today, I will give a more visual breakdown from the user's (not developer's like i usually do) point of view. First up is <em>JavaScript Core execution</em> benchmark <img src="http://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/sunspider_benchmark.jpg" border="0"> Don't you just love the shape of it? A more thorough JavaScript benchmark: <img src="http://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/javascript_speed_test.jpg" border="0"> And my favorite <img src="http://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/acid3_test.jpg" border="0"> <em>Add Latest Safari Alpha as 100%</em> I just love how opera has always been very compliant with standards. And it has more consistent look than even FF across OSs. If only the community would make widgets that are actually useful like what FF community makes, i would go back to using it (why do i want aquarium in my web browser and a half baked HttpHeader monitor). Lets also look at <strong>global market share</strong> <img src="http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj229/tmthv2/CFT1220_0912583D69F.png" border="0"> (and i don't understand why data is so different over at <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp" target="_blank">http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp</a> As for me, i am slammed with another program to make, for school this time, that keeps track of MAC addresses on our wireless network + more homework. So i will once again have a hard time finding time to work on my ideas for DIE :( ************ <div style="text-align: center;"><strong>************ What others say ************</strong> <!--link--><a href="http://features.csmonitor.com/innovation/2008/12/16/microsoft-admits-security-flaw-stop-exploring-experts-say/">Microsoft admits IE is unsafe and users should be cautious while using it.</a> We all have issues: <!--link--><a href="http://home.comcast.net/~SupportCD/FirefoxMyths.html">Firefox Myths</a>. IE is an important browser. Without IE, we would never know what its like to have a bad internet browsing experience and good browsers like FireFox would not get the praise and a title of "the best" because they would just be ordinary good browsers. But with IE on the market FireFox truly shines: <strong>IE's existence makes all other browsers look good</strong>, even lynx (and yes, text-only mode looks better any day than what IE does with CSS and images). Finally, without IE we would not know what a browser should <strong>not</strong> be and once again, FF would probably not be so great if its developers had no reference as to what they should <strong>not</strong> do. IE is a one stop place for referencing what a browser should not be."</em> ************<!--center--></div> <strong><u>Userbars</u></strong> <!--link--><a href="http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html"><img src="http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/9671/ff3bs2.gif" border="0"></a> <!--link--><a href="http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/"><img src="http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/6591/ffuserbar3bs1.png" border="0"> <img src="http://www.freewebs.com/xtamember/ffuserbar2pe4.png" border="0"></a> <!--link--><a href="http://www.opera.com/download/"><img src="http://www.freewebs.com/xtamember/operauserbarsx9.png" border="0"></a> <!--link--><a href="http://browser.netscape.com/downloads/archive/"><img src="http://www.freewebs.com/xtamember/netscapeuserbarat9.png" border="0"></a> <!--link--><a href="http://www.apple.com/safari/download/"><img src="http://www.freewebs.com/xtamember/safariuserbargd5.png" border="0"></a> <!--link--><a href="http://lolifox.com/download/"><img src="http://www.freewebs.com/xtamember/lolifoxuserbarce3.png" border="0"></a> <!--link--><a href="http://www.mozilla.org/releases/"><img src="http://www.freewebs.com/xtamember/mozillauserbaria0.png" border="0"></a> <!--link--><a href="http://www.konqueror.org/download/"><img src="http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/900/konqueroruserbarmx0.png" border="0"></a> <!--link--><a href="http://www.flock.com/"><img src="http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/7314/flockuserbarwl0.png" border="0"></a> <!--link--><a href="http://maxthon.quox.net/en/download.htm"><img src="http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/9828/maxthonuserbarjt4.png" border="0"></a> <!--link--><a href="http://www.google.com/chrome/"><img src="http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/3466/chromeuserbarfo2.jpg" border="0"></a> Do like BPS and add this to your profile: xD <!--link--><a href="http://myanimelist.net/clubs.php?cid=551"><img src="http://www.freewebs.com/xtamember/antiieuserbarzy2.png" border="0"></a> <!--link--><a href="http://myanimelist.net/clubs.php?cid=551"><img src="http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/9861/dieuserbarzb3.png" border="0"></a> <strong>GET Microsoft Internet Crasher today and win a free hard disk wipe!</strong> <img src="http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/1473/ieuserbarns7.png" border="0"> <div style="text-align: center;">[Thanks to Mathes for these userbars] [and DarkBlue for the Chorme one] <strong>May Internet Explorer fail, and all other browsers prevail :3</strong> <strong>This club is Osaka approved</strong> <img src="http://www.animewish.net/images/osakaseal.jpg" border="0"><!--center--></div><!--center--></div>

Yeah, it's nothing new for other browsers, but I do appreciate the change on FF's part. As for the club, it could still be a decent place for talking about browsers regardless of one's current attitude towards IE.

@QueenHarlette: Maybe you're still using one of the beta versions? The one that I have on the Linux partition was updated about a month ago and it still fits your description. As for the tabs, I do purge them every now and then but that usually only happens after I'm done with a major task. In the meantime, I keep them open for easy reference.

Rosa_FOEtida | Apr 19, 2011 12:37 PM
@QueenHarlette:

I believe Yunnagi goes to TVTropes, at least for discussions on Madoka. That's one website where you can have dozens of tabs open without even trying.

Still, I generally "only" have about 5-20 tabs open at a time in one window. I like to have separate browser windows open for different things, though.

Rosa_FOEtida | Apr 19, 2011 12:33 PM
@Yunnagi:

That style is nothing new. Google Chrome has been has be using that style of tabs from the beginning, I believe. Firefox is only copying it.

Opera also shows its tabs above the address bar, although not on the same level as the maximize/minimize/close buttons

Hell, even the latest version of the browser that must not be named has the tabs like that.

Speaking of the browser that must not be named, do you think this club is a bit obsolete now with version 9 released, or is it still insecure enough to warrant this club to exist? Standards compliance doesn't appear to be an issue anymore at the very least.

VyraLove | Apr 19, 2011 12:23 PM
My FF4 doesn't look like that to me. I still have the window title bar and then the File/Edit/etc menu, and then the tabs.

And really? 300-700 tabs? Do you -really- need that much? >_>

Yuunagi | Apr 19, 2011 11:52 AM
Firefox 4's out and I've been giving it a test drive. The most notable change in the UI is the transfer of the tabs to what used to be the window title bar. Quite an improvement that saves space and gives the personas add-on a much more personal look.

It remains to be seen if this version would do a better job of handling my usual 300-700+ tab sessions, but that'll come naturally in about 2 or 3 weeks.
