@Shiroth; Nice said.. You kind of convinced me there :P I really don't know if this all is true though, I'll have to see for myself :) But as for the first series, I doubt I'll ever hate it. ^^

I'm saying that the first anime doesn't have the jawdropping reveals and plot twists that the manga drops on a regular basis- like when they reveal who Pride is.

>>it makes me wonder if the second series is really as bad ass as everyone says

To put it simple, FMA: Brotherhood isn't the adaptation of the manga that i hoped for. The amount of manga material they've skipped already is pretty crazy, and the pacing has been pretty bad for some episodes. Still there have been episodes that have made me smile, and i really enjoyed it.

Saying that, i've heard a lot of comments from people who don't read the manga saying how good FMA: Brotherhood is, and how much better then the poor attempt of the first series. They go on to say how this series cares for it's cast, unlike the first series which just focused on the main characters. They're very correct, because that's just one of the reasons why we love the manga so much.

Huh.. :p Well, I'm done with this conversation xD
@ArnoldK: True, I didn't think about the fact that it's not an Anime fanclub, before added the comment ^^ Anyway, I did kinda like.. go like ''Holy Crap!'' on the first series xD After this discussion it makes me wonder if the second series is really as bad ass as everyone says :p But ah well, I'm still waiting for the dubs :(

Also, I did love the first series, just that it does seem to be lacking in scope in comparison to the manga. It was very good, but doesn't make you go "Holy Crap!" on a regular basis like the manga does.

That's not to say I think the first anime sucks, though. Rather quite the opposite- I still rate the first series an 8 out of 10, and I'm a pretty tough grader compared to most on MAL here (my 8s are probably 9s for most members).

@Vildan1994 - you realize that this is not called the "Fullmetal Alchemist Anime fanclub", right? :) Maybe some people like Shiroth got into FMA via the manga and never liked the anime from the beginning.

And there are little things in the first anime that don't work- like for instance the story behind the homunculi. It's awfully convenient that there were only seven attempts at human transmutation, just enough for the seven deadly sins. What would happen if there was an eighth attempt? What would its name be?

And who the hell would want to transmute someone like Gluttony? :)

I think the main problem of the first FMA anime is, that the manga is just too good. An alternative filler-ending at this point was just way too early to get anything good done.

btw, I've first watched the FMA anime and then read the manga. My first impression was, that it was a good anime, but the ending somehow bugged me, because I thought: "This somehow doesn't fit." And it really didin't. After reading the manga, I came to the conclusion: "THIS is what it should be like." xD

Shiroth | 11-19-09, 1:07 PM
No, i never liked the first series. End of story.

Adding in pointless anime original scenes just destroys the overall story, plus the boring filler nonsense. It wasn't even a good job of adapting some of the novel material.
