Silent Hill Games
Silent Hill (1999) Playstation
Conceived by the game designer Keiichiro Toyama, the first Silent Hill was released in 1999 for the Sony PlayStation. The plot of the game centered around Harry Mason arriving in Silent Hill and his subsequent attempts at finding his lost daughter, Cheryl.
During the progress of the game, the protagonist Harry finds that his adopted daughter Cheryl has a disturbing past as the details of her genesis are revealed.
This game was followed by the release of the side story for Game Boy Advance called Silent Hill: Play Novel which is detailed below.
Silent Hill 2 (2001) Playstation 2/ XBOX/ PC
The sequel, Silent Hill 2, was released in 2001 for the Sony PlayStation 2, Microsoft Xbox and PC. The extended versions for Microsoft Xbox and PC are sometimes referred to by the name Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams and feature an extra subplot scenario, as do the "Greatest Hits"/"Platinum" re-releases for the Sony PlayStation 2. The plot centered around James Sunderland, who had received a letter from his deceased wife informing him that she is waiting for him in their "special place", which leads him to Silent Hill. This is the only game in the series to have the series' most recognisable character, Pyramid Head as an enemy.
Silent Hill 3 (2003) Playstation 2/ PC
The second full sequel, Silent Hill 3, was released in 2003 for the Sony PlayStation 2 as well as for PC. Highly tethered to the events of the first game, the plot surrounds a teenager named Heather as she uncovers the mysteries that surround her past - including her own link to the haunted town.
Silent Hill 4: The Room (2004) Playstation 2/ XBOX/ PC
Silent Hill 4: The Room was released in 2004 for the Sony PlayStation 2, Microsoft Xbox and PC. Partly related to Silent Hill 2 and briefly set in Silent Hill, the plot follows Henry Townshend who finds himself mysteriously locked in his own apartment until a hole appears in his bathroom wall. The game features characters that are mentioned in previous titles.
The game was not originally meant to be a part of the Silent Hill series, but the decision to transform it into a Silent Hill game was taken early in the development of the game, so it was heavily reworked.
Silent Hill: Origins (2007) PSP/ Playstation 2
The prequel Silent Hill: Origins, developed by Climax Group, was released in 2007 for the Sony PlayStation Portable, and in March 2008 for the PlayStation 2. The plot features Travis Grady, a trucker with a disturbing past who becomes trapped in Silent Hill after rescuing a girl from a burning house. During his quest to find the fate of the burned girl, he encounters characters from the first game and some new ones from his own subconscious.
Silent Hill V (2008) Playstation 3/ XBOX 360
The fifth installment was officially confirmed on July 11th, 2007, during E3 2007 for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360. The game tells the story of Alex Shepherd, a soldier who has returned from a war overseas. Shepherd discovers upon his arrival that his father has gone missing and his mother has become catatonic. Joshua, his brother, is the only one who can provide solace, but he soon vanishes. The game will chronicle Shepherd's search to find his missing brother. Much like Silent Hill: Origins, Team Silent will not be developing the project, but instead by The Collective from Foundation 9 Entertainm
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (2009) Wii/ PS2/ PSP
Harry Mason and his daughter Cheryl are heading to a small midwestern resort town. Suddenly, Harry sees a dark figure in the street and swerves to avoid it, causing a serious accident. After coming to, Harry realizes that he has smashed the car and Cheryl is missing. You must guide Harry through the strange town of Silent Hill town while he searches for his daughter Will Harry be able to save his daughter and escape the town in Silent Hill?
Combat has been removed from the game with emphasis placed instead on evading encounters with monsters entirely
Silent Hill Downpour (2011) Playstation 3, XBOX 360
The protagonist of the game is a convict, Murphy Pendleton. Murphy has been incarcerated for several years at Ryall State Corrections Facility for stealing a police cruiser. Seeking revenge for an unspecified incident, Murphy strikes a deal with George Sewell, a corrections officer at Ryall. Sewell secretly grants Murphy access to a sequestered inmate, Patrick Napier, in the shower room. After reminding Napier that they used to be neighbors, Murphy savagely beats and kills him. . .
Murphy can only carry one firearm and one melee weapon. Murphy's weapons will gradually deteriorate and break. Murphy's clothing will become bloodier as well. Downpour features a "decision making" system, which may deal with moral choices. The player's decisions will have an impact on how the game unfolds, and the ending the player receives. There are also optional side quests that the player can do.
The game features a real time weather system. Every so often, it will rain and this will alert the player that danger is approaching; the player can attempt to fight the danger, or run away and hide in a nearby building. As well as the weather, the time of day will also change from day to night.
Silent Hill: Book of Memories (2012) Playstation VITA
An upcoming ninth installment, titled Silent Hill: Book of Memories, will be released in May 2012 for the PlayStation Vita. The game, which is not canonical to the series, is currently in development by WayForward Technologies and has yet to be "concept-approved" by Sony Computer Entertainment of America, the console's developer. Book of Memories will utilize an overhead isometric view, follow a new storyline, and feature returning creatures from the series' fictional universe, as well as cooperative gameplay; the game will be the first installment in the series to feature multiplayer gameplay. According to series producer Tomm Hulett, Book of Memories' gameplay will be largely different from the one established in previous installments in the series, "focusing on cooperative multiplayer action rather than traditional psychological horror."

Silent Hill - The Movie 2006
The film follows a mother, Rose, who takes her troubled adopted daughter, Sharon, to Silent Hill, the town the girl cries out for while sleepwalking. After being knocked unconscious in a car crash outside the town, Rose awakens to find her daughter missing and the town engulfed in an alternate reality of fog and falling ash. While searching for her daughter, she faces surreal reality shifts and monstrous creatures while uncovering her daughter's connections to the town's dark secrets.
