Fix It Or Scrape It

The new layout is the last straw. Is there any point in introducing new functionality when existing stuff doesn't work and the site is a general mess? The forums are cluttered with spam, there's less than satisfying control over the content inputted into mal, whether it be people (Adolf Hilter being an example), or reviews of unfinished series. There are a ton of bugs. Now, it's always healthier to try and fix existing problems than fork a project. But since mal is closed source and fixing the problems lies solely in the hands of one person / a few people, they are the only ones to fix it. So here's the deal: fix mal, new layout or not, preferably bring back the useful left sidebar (which could receive some restructuring), throw out pointless stuff like porn, or I'll create a competitor. I have enough on my hands as it is, so I really don't want generate myself even more work, but I'm annoyed at the current state of this site.
