Lolita Containing many different styles and themes within its boundaries, Lolita has become one of the bigger, more recognizable styles in Japanese street fashion. Now gaining a huge amount of interest worldwide, Lolita is seen as one of the many different styles that brings the "cute" in Japan. The more well-known styles within Lolita fashion are as follows: Gothic Lolita Is Lolita with a heavy influence from the Eastern and Victorian Goth style. Often characterized by dark colors, crosses, bats and spiders, as well as other popular gothic 'icons'. Victorian iron gates and architectural designs are also often seen in dress prints. Skirts that are worn are usually worn at knee length with petticoats underneath for volume, blouses or shirts are lace-trimmed or ruffled like the Victorian-style, knee length socks with boots, bonnets, brooches, and an umbrella finish out this style of Lolita. Sweet Lolita is the most childlike style, mostly characterized by baby animals, fairy tale themes and innocent, childlike dress. It is very much inspired by baby dolls and Hello Kitty is popular among the SweetLolis. A lot of pastel colors are used, as well as other muted colors like black and dark reds and blues. Large headbows, cute purses, elegant parasols and stuffed animals are popular accessories for Sweet Lolita. Punk Lolita A very experimental style, mixing the influences of Punk into Lolita. It can sometimes look deconstructed or crazy, while keeping most of the 'Lolita silhouette'. Classic Lolita Other Styles of LolitaIs very traditional. It is very mature, and business-like and focuses on light colors, such as, blue, green, and red. Wa Lolita (or Waloli) combines traditional Japanese clothing styles with the Lolita fashion. Wa Lolita usually consists of kimono or hakama modified to fit with common Lolita garments. The bottom half of the garment is altered to accommodate a petticoat, or a kimono-style blouse is used as a top to accompany a plain Lolita skirt. Qi Lolita is a similar style but uses Chinese clothing and accessories in place of Japanese. Usually this includes qipao and cheongsam-dresses modified to accommodate a petticoat. Accessories include platform-slippers for footwear and bun-covers as hair accessories. Ōji or Ōji-sama, meaning "prince," is a Japanese fashion that is considered the male version of Lolita fashion. This style takes its influence from the clothing boys in the Victorian era wore. Though it is considered a "boy style", it is often worn by both genders. Hime, or "Princess," Lolita is characterized by a princess-style look based upon the European aristocratic style. Guru Lolita also called "Grotesque Lolita" or "Injured Lolita", Guro Lolita uses items like fake blood, eyepatches, and bandages to give the appearance of injury. The concept of Guro Lolita is mainly to take on the appearance of a broken doll. Guro Lolitas often have a gun or knife in their hands in photos to represent the grotesque. Sailor Lolita . Lolita fashion that incorporates the look of a Sailor Seifuku. This can include sailor collars and ties, sailor hats, and stripes. Sailor Lolita is widely popular in Japanese anime, featured in popular shows.
