He is an old man with a very long beard, and long eyebrows. There are many scars on his torso and head, the two most prominent being a pair of long, perpendicular scars above his right eye, suggesting numerous battles in his past. He wears the standard Shinigami uniform, but its size is greatly exaggerated. He also drapes his haori over his back instead of actually wearing it. Despite his old age and frail appearance, he has a very muscular body, something he only reveals when he takes a certain battle stance, something Shunsui claims is not seen too often.<!--spoiler--></span></div> <img src="http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt216/Juscing123/captian_yamamoto.jpg" border="0" />First Division Captain and founder of the shinigami academy. By virtue of his position and seniority, he is also the supreme commander of the Gotei 13. Yamamoto-taicho looks like a very old man, almost after the fashion of the Taoist Immortals, but under his shinigami robes he still has a strong body that has not decayed with age. His spiritual pressure is possibly greater than any other being in Soul Society; it was enough to paralyze Ise Nanao--the Eighth Division Vice-Captain--with a mere glance. He wields Ryuujin Jakka, the strongest of all fire-type zanpaku-to. When released, it turns into a katana with a dark red handle and a circular handguard. Upon the command of “Bansho issai kaijin to nase” (All things of this world, turn to ashes), Ryujin Jakka goes into Shikai (Initial Release). Yamamoto himself and the surrounding area immediately gets engulfs in strong flames.
