Fight Club

Information
Norton plays the nameless protagonist, an "everyman" who is discontented with his white-collar job in American society. He forms a "fight club" with soap salesman Tyler Durden, played by Pitt, and becomes embroiled in a relationship with him and a destitute woman, Marla Singer, played by Bonham Carter.
Palahniuk's novel was optioned by 20th Century Fox producer Laura Ziskin, who hired Jim Uhls to write the film adaptation. Fincher was one of four directors the producers considered; they hired him because of his enthusiasm for the film. Fincher developed the script with Uhls and sought screenwriting advice from the cast and others in the film industry. The director and the cast compared the film to Rebel Without a Cause (1955) and The Graduate (1967). They said its theme was the conflict between a generation of young people and the value system of advertising. Fincher intended Fight Club's violence to serve as a metaphor for this. The director copied the homoerotic overtones from Palahniuk's novel to make audiences uncomfortable and keep them from anticipating the twist ending.
Studio executives did not like the film, and they restructured Fincher's intended marketing campaign to try to reduce anticipated losses. Fight Club failed to meet the studio's expectations at the box office, and received polarized reactions from critics. It was cited as one of the most controversial and talked-about films of 1999. The Guardian saw it as an omen for change in American political life, and described its visual style as ground-breaking. The film later found commercial success with its DVD release, which established Fight Club as a cult film.

- The self-destructive man

"A self-destructive man feels completely alienated, utterly alone. He's an outsider to the human community. He thinks to himself, "I must be insane." What he fails to realize is that society has, just as he does, a vested interest in considerable losses and catastrophes. These wars, famines, floods and quakes meet well-defined needs. Man wants chaos. In fact, he's gotta have it. Depression, strife, riots, murder, all this dread. We're irresistibly drawn to that almost orgiastic state created out of death and destruction. It's in all of us. We revel in it. Sure, the media tries to put a sad face on these things, painting them up as great human tragedies. But we all know the function of the media has never been to eliminate the evils of the world, no. Their job is to persuade us to accept those evils and get used to living with them. The powers that be want us to be passive observers. Hey, you got a match? And they haven't given us any other options outside the occasional, purely symbolic, participatory act of voting. You want the puppet on the right or the puppet on the left? I feel that the time has come to project my own inadequacies and dissatisfactions into the sociopolitical and scientific schemes, let my own lack of a voice be heard."

Glad to see there is a club now for "Fight Club." One of my favorite movies, as well as the book.

I was requiered to make a report about the book of my own choice. And I'm more of a movie person than a bookworm, so I remembered we had the book and read it through. My teacher was like O.o, because I was 13 at that time lol.

I read that he's really crazy. He's a member of the "Cacophony Society" a rebellious movement. Many things in Fight Club reflects his personality.
But he also helped people... Homeless, terminally ill

Now I'm starting my Language and Literature college so I better start reading many books XD

This report you did.. Was it for yourself or some kind of homework assignment? Whatever is the case, I find it very nice, being about Fight Club.

I can't talk about crazy people since I'm also one of them ;X

Palahniuk is too crazy to create bad literature. Anyone read about him? I did a book report on Fight Club a few years ago.

AirDemon, I also rewatched the film at that day, maybe even at the same time you did. :P
The fact I rewatched it that day was what drove me to create this club.

Seasonreaper, yes, even the ending is good!
