1. Karaoke
It's really an eyesore, especially the inserts. When characters are talking (or in action), your eyes are busy watching the animation and reading the subtitles. *Background music plays*, karaoke appears. What's this? More text slapped onto the screen? Not only translation of the song which bears no relevance to the plot/characters but romaji/kanji as well? That's a perfect way to distract someone's anime viewing experience.

2. Foot/Header Notes
This one is almost as bad as karaoke. Animes with lots of scientific, religious, historical, or mythical references, these notes will appear to explain the meaning. Sometimes they're over 2 lines of subs blocking nearly half the screen (depending on font size). We're watching anime to be entertained, not to be educated (with few exception). This is what the internet and library is for. Do the research there if we're so interested in learning.

3. Lazy Translation
I was recently watching Amagami SS+ and Juinchi's lil sis keeps on calling him "nii-nii". That's not even his name, so what's "nii-nii"? Now this kinda goes back to the whole footnotes thing. *Up on top* "Nii-nii: brother". Why the extra work when you could've just put down "brother" or "Juinchi" as the subs instead of "nii-nii"? I can understand in action animes where characters has to chant out uniquely named attacks that can't be translated but honorifics should not be an exception nor this onee nii-nii BS. Those HAVE to be translated when you're showing something from a different country. If English is your primary language, would you call your friends' name with a "-chan" or "-san" at the end? Hell no. Anime veterans won't say anything about this issue but new audiences will question it.

Not expecting anyone to agree with me but this is just a little rant to get off my chest.
