Solanin: Taneda's gear
There's no way I'll include trivia like this in my full blog post but the realism of the story is carried over to the attention paid to the bits and pieces of musical equipment...to the point where I'm noticing what items the guys actually use. The drum kit's Tama and the bass looks like a Fender Precision (or one of the zillion copies thereof). Taneda, the Guitar Hero of the story, has a pretty cool rig by the way - it suits his low-budget, non-professional status well I think.
Guitar: Fender Mustang
It has cult popularity in Japan, possibly because the late and great Hyde played one, as does Yoshiake Manabe of the Pillows. It's a cheaper model than many Fender guitars so is popular with students; the short scale length is also good for players with small hands (female musicians...?).
Effects pedal: Boss Blues Driver
One of Boss' many distortion pedals, it's a dark blue stompbox that generates a mild overdriven valve/tube amp sound like that of the old blues guitarists. I've never tried one though, since I like my fuzz pedals instead.
Effects pedal: Electro-Harmonix Small Clone
A classic chorus pedal, as used by Kurt Kobain. It's an analogue effect that's described as 'liquid' - a high/low depth switch, a rate control and an on-off switch. Really easy to use, and since my own chorus pedal died recently I might get one; truth be told I've wanted one of these for years.
Effects pedal: Boss DD-3 digital delay
The classic digital delay that gives crisp repeated echoes. The later models (such as the DD-5 I own) have more features but again the DD-3 is a bit cheaper and purists believe its sound is a bit warmer.
Amplifier: Roland Jazz Chorus
An old solid-state (not valve-powered) guitar amp that gives a nice clean tone with built-in effects and stereo output. It's a large amp but I notice Taneda uses a Marshall half stack when playing live.
I can't believe Asano drew stuff like this in such detail - it makes me wonder how close to personal experience this story is.
Byousoku 5cm OST
I am speechless. Such is the power of music I guess.
There is no conceivable way then that I could make a full blog post on this...yet.
