I'd like to introduce Akane, my own Dollfie Dream - a natural progression for someone obsessed with collecting figures! This post is a summary but you can see the full post, including photos, on my blog!

I was first exposed to doll culture through Danny Choo's blog. After then, I had seen them closer up at events in the UK and whilst shopping in Japan but at that time my interest had been at most of curiosity rather than wanting to own one. After meeting my partner and seeing the dolls that she owns, my interest started to pick up.

Whilst I was in Japan in 2010, I decided spontaneously to take the plunge and own a Dollfie Dream of my own. Instead of going for the expensive off-the-shelf character options, I decided to go for the cheaper option of buying the parts and assembling one myself - that way, I also got the fun of creating my very own, unique character!

From the Volks store in Akihabara I bought a Mini Dollfie Dream base body (which is 43cm in height, rather than the standard 60cm Dollfie Dream body), a type 3 Dollfie Dream head, an extra pair of hands, a large bust option part, a pair of ??? eyes, body protector and a school uniform outfit that's a mixture of items from Little Wonder Wardrobe and A-Zone.

I did originally intend for Akane to wear a short, white wig which I also bought in Akihabara. However, she's ended up with a short, darker red wig that's on permanent loan from my girlfriend's collection and in my opinion looks much better than the white wig did. I've also borrowed a hair band that fits her nicely.

Normal Dollfie Dream heads come unpainted and it's up to the owner to do a 'face-up' if they so wish. A 'face-up' is basically the process of painting the eye sockets, eyebrows, lips and any other detail you want to add to the face. My girlfriend taught me how to do it and I'm extremely pleased with the result, although she still has grey eyebrows to match her original white wig rather than the red one she has now.

The eyes are held in with white tack inside of the head. Some people use more permanent methods to secure the eyes into place but with white tack it's not too much hassle to fix the eyes if they fall out of place and it will be much easier to change her eyes in future.

I've also taken my girlfriend's advice and done the 'snip trick' on the inside of the head cap - it makes it so much easier to remove the cap and doesn't affect the head cap visibly.

Since buying her, she has received some more clothing - some home-made and some bought - and I look forward to showing Akane in them in the future!
