Dez and I are doing our best to stay caught up with the Winter 2011 season of anime and catch up with everything we’ve fallen behind on, but it’s March now. April and the start of the Spring 2011 season is just around the corner! So a whole new set of anime is on the horizon for us to check out and decide what we’ll watch and what we’ll pass on. In the past couple of years it has seemed like there hasn’t been as much anime each season as before. But that is not the case with the Spring season. Anime has come back in full force! So here I am to make a list of all of the shows under consideration this season to take up our watching time. Now, this is a lot of anime, but it’s not even everything. I left out some things like sequels to stuff we haven’t seen and stuff we definitely won’t be interested in like Yu-Gi-Oh! and such. But anyway, here is the list:
30-sai no Hoken Taiiku
“Health Education for 30 years old men” is what this title translates to. Apparently it’s based on a guide book series for 30 year old virgins, teaching them how to date and have sex with women. It might be amusing. Reminds me of Futari Ecchi.
A Channel
A new slice of life school comedy. Maybe it will fill the void left by Mitsudomoe Zouryouchuu!? That’d be nice. Squid Girl did a pretty good job of that during the Fall 2010 season. ^_^
Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai
Oh yay! A new show with a ridiculously long title!! Well, at least this series doesn’t have “brother” or “sister” in the title. Based on the picture and synopsis, it looks like it might actually be pretty good. It’s actually an original anime project.
Ao no Exorcist
This looks like it might actually be a pretty cool supernatural shounen action series. Not a Shounen Jump show this time so maybe it will hold my attention better than Beelzebub. =P
Appleseed XIII
Ahhh, I heard about the TV version of Appleseed years ago and it looks like it’s finally coming out! And I’m not really all that sure if I’m very excited about it anymore. It might be cool. Maybe Dez and I should watch the two movies before we give this a shot? I still haven’t watched Ex Machina yet myself.
C
So we have an anime with a super long title with AnoHana, and now we have a show with the shortest name possible! Just one letter. C. Although I guess it has a subtitle of “The Money of Soul and Possibility Control” so I don’t know. Looks like this might be a pretty cool and gritty sci-fi story. And it’s another original anime story.
Deadman Wonderland
I’ve read the first volume of the Deadman Wonderland manga so I’m looking forward to the anime version of this strange prison anime.
Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko
A new light novel based anime. A girl thinks she’s an alien. Don’t really know much else about it. Could be good.
Dog Days
Holy crap! Another original anime story! Not sure if this looks as promising as the other two on the list so far. Looks like a silly fantasy action thing. We’ll see, though.
Dororon Enma-kun Meeramera
This fantasy comedy it based on a really old manga (from the 1970’s!!) and it’s actually already had two anime adaptations. One done around the time of the original manga while the other was a much darker OVA just released in 2006-2007. This one looks like it’s closer to the manga like the 70’s anime, just with updated animation.
Hanasaku Iroha
Oh, looks like another original anime. A lot of them this season, huh? Well, this one is about girls working in a hot springs hotel and looks like it’s actually not going to be perverted at all. Interesting. Looks more like a calm slice of life coming of age kind of thing. Could be nice.
Happy Kappy
A kids’ show. Don’t know if it will be worth it, but I’ve been surprised by kids’ shows before. Mainly Thriller Restaurant. So who knows.
Hyougemono
A historical samurai series. Could be good. I have no idea. We’ve liked what we’ve seen of House of Five Leaves, so maybe we’ll like this, too.
Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai 2 (The World God Only Knows 2)
The sequel to an anime we liked pretty well during the Fall 2010 season, so I’m sure we’ll be watching this one, too. Maybe they’ll have another super cool techno song opener. ^_^
Lotte no Omocha! Rie Kugimiya has a second staring roll this season. This time she plays a ten year old succubus princess. I’m not as sure about this one as I am about Hidan no Aria, but it could be okay. We’ll see.
Moshidora
A baseball anime? Could be okay. Apparently it’s based on a single volume light novel series and the anime will just be 10 episodes long so it might be a nice little quick series that actually tells a complete story.
Nichijou
Another slice of life comedy, this time looking like it’s a little more on the wacky side of things. Hopefully it’s funny. There is also an OVA listed which comes out March 12. Says it’s an “Episode 0” so we’ll actually be able to get an early preview.
Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai
“Fall 2011 anime based on an adult game #2” ....okay, maybe I shouldn’t just write off the shows that are based on dating sims. We did like Fortune Arterial well enough, so who knows. I guess we can still try it out.
Sekaiichi Hatsukoi TV
This show looks like it will be pretty gay. Literally. I’m pretty sure we won’t be watching this. We only watched 2 episodes of Togainu no Chi before we dropped that. =P
Sengoku Otome: Momoiro Paradox
Another anime based on a series of pachinko machines? We didn’t give Rio a shot this season. Maybe we’ll try the first episode of this, but we probably won’t bother. Maybe see what the ANN preview for the season says about it?
Sket Dance
Another shounen anime, this time more of a school days kind of thing. I actually want to watch this for only one reason: Tomokazu Sugita plays one of the main characters! Ahhh, you’ll always be Kyon to me. ^_^
Sofuteni
And here we have a tennis anime! This one looks like it will be a little more comedy/slice of life based than the baseball anime. We’ll see how it turns out.
Steins;Gate
Here’s an anime that is based in the same world as Chaos;Head, an anime that I only checked out the first episode of back in my anime club days. I don’t know if you have to have seen that anime to understand what’s going on in this one, so we might just hold off on this for now. Maybe someday we’ll watch both shows? I don’t know. Looks like it could be interesting, though.
Tiger & Bunny
Just based on the picture on MAL, looks like a new stylish mecha show, maybe kind of like Star Driver, so it should be worth a shot. Oh, and it’s another original anime story!! That makes a total of five original anime stories this season!! Pretty good, huh?
Toriko (2011)
This looks manly, and crazy, probably retarded. A new Shounen Jump comedy. Again, considering that we weren’t very big on Beelzebub, this show probably doesn’t have a very good chance. But we may go ahead and check the first episode anyway. Maybe it can surprise us?
Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san.
An anime about a detective who summons devils to solve the troubles of his clients. Seems kind of interesting. There is actually an OVA for this that was released last month. I think I might have actually downloaded it, too. Just never got around to watching it.
X-Men
And then we have the new Marvel/Madhouse thing. Yeah, as I’ve said before, we probably won’t even bother. But who knows. Maybe we’ll give the first episode a shot.
And that’s it! So we have 31 shows to choose from?! Crap. Of course, some of them we won’t even try and a number of them probably won’t make the cut, but even if we like half of the shows, that’s a lot of anime to keep up with. Especially since we’re still trying to catch up on the current season and a few shows from last season. But I’m sure it will work out somehow. I’m looking forward to seeing some new stuff. ^_^

We really really really need to catch up with everything. There are a lot of interesting shows coming out. And even if we do only watch half of them that is still a lot!!! ^_^ I declare this week: Anime Week!!!!!!!!!
