Okay, so this is something of a weird list, I guess. I tried to think of a shorter title for it, but that was the best title I could come up with. Sorry! =P
Anyway, this is basically a list of shows which other people tend to like a lot more than I did. Now I guess I could have called this my “Top 10 Most Overrated Anime” list but that doesn’t really fit very well with all of these, and calling them “overrated” would just be based on my own personal opinion. So beside each anime title are two numbers in parenthesis. The first number is the rating I gave the show and the second is the average MAL rating when I started writing this. The differences in scores are just here for reference. They’re not the end-all-be-all decider of where a show ends up on the list (if that was the case 11eyes would be #1 by a landslide). I’ll explain why each show is on the list where they are each individually.
10. School Days (6, 7.03)
Okay, this is a bit of a stretch since there are a lot of people who feel the same about this show that I do and it has the second lowest average rating on the list. But there are still people who really like this show and it just confuses me as to how that can be. I mean, it’s not really a bad show in its execution. The animation and everything is nice and all. It’s just that the story and the characters are so bad! And again, I don’t mean bad as poorly done. The story and the characters are just bad to their cores. Watching the series gave me a bad feeling deep down. Well, it didn’t help that I marathoned the show on Valentine’s Day less than two months after I broke up with my ex. XP
9. Seitokai no Ichizon (6, 7.88)
A few seasons back this show got a bit of love here and there as being really funny, like a new Lucky Star or something. I chuckled every now and then and there were some genuinely funny moments. There were even a few very touching moments. I enjoyed the main male character. But everything else about the series was rather bland. I didn’t really like any of the girls very much and the only moments I did find myself liking them were because of the male lead. Like most of the shows on this list, Seitokai no Ichizon wasn’t really a bad show. I just didn’t get as much enjoyment out of it as a lot of other people seemed to.
8. 11eyes (3, 6.89)
Ahhh, now here is the only show on my list that is genuinely horrible. This has received the lowest rating I’ve ever given to an anime. It’s just flat out awful in my eyes. Now I haven’t come across very many people who have said that they love this series and that is why it’s only at #8 on my list. But this piece of crap actually has nearly an average rating of 7?! What??! I’m sorry, I just don’t get it. The story is a mess and the characters are mostly crap. I just didn’t care about what happened in the show by the end and the end is just retarded. And it’s also not very well animated or anything like that either. Blah!
7. Blood+ (_, 7.94)
So this one isn’t quite fair, I guess. I dropped this series after watching six episodes because it was just boring me to tears. People tell me that it gets better and really awesome, about half way through the 50 episode series. I’m sorry, but I just don’t want to have to tread through 25 episodes of mediocrity to maybe get to some stuff that might be cool or something. Maybe I’ll give it another try someday, but I doubt it.
6. Speed Grapher (7, 7.57)
This one is a little different than the rest of my list. A 7 rating compared to a 7.57 average isn’t that big of a deal. Speed Grapher’s inclusion and spot on this list is based on personal experience with real life friends. This is a friend of mine’s favorite anime and he pimps it out to every anime interested person he knows and everyone who’s seen it seems to like it more than me. I mean, it was a pretty decent show, but not all that great. I don’t know, there are just some things about it that bother me. I can’t really explain it well.
5. Fullmetal Alchemist (8, 8.61)
The old Fullmetal Alchemist anime. It seemed like every US anime fan was all over this series. One of the most acclaimed shows of its time. I thought it was pretty good, but not masterpiece worthy. Something about it just seemed kind of off to me and I didn’t really connect with the show. The new remake on the other hand, I thought that was awesome and far better. And I didn’t even read the manga so this isn’t just an adaptation-purist talking. But a number of lists I’ve found on here actually rate the first FMA anime higher than the new one and that just seems really weird to me.
4. Code Geass (8, 8.88), R2 (8, 8.96)
Code Geass. Yeah, I thought you were pretty good, too. But you had so many flaws that just can’t be overlooked. The main character is a bit of a dick, but at least he had values. He wasn’t a completely worthless human being like the main character in the next show on my list. The action was cool and all that. The main thing that really pulls this series down for me is the story. It’s like plot-twist hell. The first season wasn’t too bad, but season 2 just went crazy with it. If it wasn’t for the miraculous way they wrapped it all up and actually made a good ending for the series, season 2 would have easily been rated a 6. But the last two episodes saved it somehow.
3. Death Note (6, 8.85)
Oh boy, Death Note! I’m kind of surprised that this didn’t end up at #1, but with me the show had a lot of its thunder stolen by reading the original manga first. I’ve already gone to lengths explaining my feelings on Death Note in this older blog post so I won’t do it again.
2. Beck (7, 8.55)
Yes, my #2 and #1 on this list have a higher rating given to them and a lower average rating on MAL than my #3. The difference here is that I just feel like I should have liked these two series a lot more than I thought I should like Death Note. Death Note was about an asshole with a god complex being a douchebag. Now Beck is a slice-of-life, coming-of-age story about a boy joining a band and making music and stuff! Why would I not love this?? I’m just so confused about why I didn’t like this series more. A lot of people have nothing but good things to say about the show. I think two people in my old anime club actually called it their favorite series. I just don’t get it. I really like K-ON! and NANA so why not Beck? Is it because they’re not girls? I don’t know. But I really have no desire to watch this show again. I’m thinking of selling my DVD’s of the show on eBay. I should probably actually take my rating down to a 6 now that I think about it. Maybe I was just trying so hard to like the series that it increased my score a little? Hmmm....
1. Lucky Star (7, 8.31)
And here we have it. Lucky Star. I’ve mentioned this before, that I feel like I should have liked this show more than I do. I’m a huge Haruhi fan and Azumanga Daioh has always been one of my all time favorites, so why wouldn’t I just love this? It confuses me so much. It just wasn’t very funny or enjoyable to me for the most part. And just so you know, the 7 rating didn’t come until after the second half of the series. The supporting characters of the show really saved it. If I just rated the first half with just the four main girls, I’d have easily only given it a 6, maybe even only a 5. I really had to push myself through that first half. I don’t really see what people see in the series. As I’ve said before, I understand the jokes. I get the references. They just aren’t that funny to me. It just seems like normal everyday stuff. Maybe it’s a problem in the delivery or something. I don’t know. But as it is, this is my least favorite anime that other people love. Laters!

Code Geass is pretty meh. I liked the characters, but the story definitely wasn't what kept me coming back for more. Lucky Star is loli crap, I couldn't stomach more than 5 minutes.
A few of these I really want to see (Death Note, Speed Grapher), though. The only thing I can really disagree with is FMA. :P Yes, Brotherhood was better, but FMA will always be dear to me. And it had better music!
